Badge of Scottish Women's Premier League side The Spartans FC, from Edinburgh Always thought it weird they had a guy on the badge. Also, they have a men's Second Division side (which, because of stupidity is the fourth tier). Strange Scottish Women's Premiere League stats: Rangers FC are second in the league with 71 points. They are tied in points with Glasgow City, but second on goal difference, with a GD of +113! 31 matches 139 goals for 26 conceded Glasgow City "merely" have a +87 goal difference. Hibs lead the league, by the way.
How about my San Jose Earthquakes (holder of the 2024 Wooden Spoon) drawing mighty star-studded Inter Miami and Messi only 3-3. Saw Messi get a yellow card after the game and even risked getting a red as he was yelling at the ref. I also heard Messi met with Apples CEO in Cupertino. Time for the Quakes to sign a superstar so I can change my avatar! In other news.....hats or to Montreal's owner, Joey Saputo who also owns Bologna for beating AC Milan 1-0 at the Coppa Italia Final in Rome yesterday! Go Joey! Soccmel Che Bulagna!
Over at Backheeled: A feature on Alex Freeman and his family's story - with heavy contributions from his father, former Green Bay Packers star Antonio Freeman. “As a father, with the success I had...you think he's going to be the next wide receiver."Son of an NFL star, Alex Freeman chose soccer. With the release of the NFL schedule today, the Chicago Fire have announced that their August 16 and September 6 games will be moved to Bridgeview. The Fire have an agreement with Chicago that they will not play any games at Soldier Field within five days of a Bear's home game. The Bears have a Home game on August 17 and September 8. https://bsky.app/profile/stevengoff.bsky.social/post/3lpa2djtri22w
Serena Williams’ husband, Reddit co-founder, and lead investor in the NWSL club in LA Alexis Ohanian has bought a 10% stake in Chelsea’s women’s club for $20M. It would be interesting if some of these tech bros took an interest in MLS. Maybe interesting good and maybe interesting bad, but definitely interesting.
