Funny that we started out with the front office encouraging us to throw streamers onto the field. After the players complained and it became clear that it could be a safety issue, the FO pulled back and asked people to at least refrain from throwing streamers during the game or at people's heads. Sounds like things are progressively getting a bit nastier at games with all kinds of stuff being thrown onto the field. So my logic goes like this: 1. If people throw stuff onto the field, then... 2. The FO will be forced to crack down on security more seriously, which will mean... 3. Slowly RSL games turn into duplicates of the Colorado games where security thinks that whispering too loudly should get you expelled. From what I hear, they will have to crack down much more seriously this weekend and in the future. Word is that people could even have their season tickets revoked if they're found throwing stuff on the field. Other thoughts?
I think people should be banned for throwing things on the field. Cheering, jeering, taunting or whatever is one thing but I think it crosses the line when players enter the stands or fans enter the field of play. Throwing objects falls into the latter category, IMO.
My section, E37, seemed to be the source of the most thrown objects, mainly after Pablo came over smiling after the second goal. While watching Pablo get hit with (harmless) crap was the most entertaining part of the game, I was rather surprised that security made no effort to stop it. It's one thing if objects are thrown after the final whistle, but there should be an effort to keep the pitch free of garbage during the game.
You endanger our players as well as the visiting players. I say ban anyone that throws sh1t on the field... If you are caught you should be banned. PERIOD! I have confronted people in the past and have, as recently as the last match, pointed them out to security... I will do it again and again and make no apologies for it. If I see you security will know about it.
It's hard to actually catch people in the act. There must have been 20 people in my section throwing stuff, but all I could see was the stuff hitting the field. Of course, if I knew what Fuerza Real looks like, I'd have someone to keep an eye on. My assumption (or perhaps hope) is that this isn't going to be a regular thing. I won't be surprised to see more stuff thrown next time the Crapids come to town, but I don't imagine the crowd will throw stuff at the opponents every time they score a goal. If we can't take a loss, it'll be a long season. Let's keep the insults verbal, gang!
As long as your dirty looks are not attached to an empty liquor bottle I got no problem... Roll your eyes all you want but dismissing the issue does not make it less serious. I work on the field every match and I have been hit by idiots throwing sh1t.

There is no room to throw anything on the pitch. One big point though, if RSL doesn't want to see Pablo's celebrations any more, then ing win!
Agree with a lot of you here. Been on my soapbox about this issue a few times in the past and there is never any excuse for throwing anything on the pitch and it is embarrassing how many times I have seen it at RSL games. I can honestly I've seen far more items thrown onto the Rice-Eccles during RSL games in just these 2+ seasons than all the other debris thrown onto the field/court/diamond at all other sports combined over several decades of watching sporting events of all kinds over the years (including a number of hotly contested Ute/Cougar games.) You see a bit of it eventually at any venue, but not on such a regular basis. You want to show displeasure at players, coaches, referees, etc. do it verbally. RSL has a great fan base that is loud, knowledgable, and has continued to show up and fill the seats as the team has struggled on and off the pitch. Right now with the team struggling to get a single league win and having a horrible problem with the press and their public image, about the only I have to be proud about is our crowd. I for one also have got my eye out for who is doing this. Monday it all started a few sections away so I couldn't positively identify anyone, but the next time this happens and I am close enough to know for sure who did it, if the guys in orange come down looking for the culprits, I will be more than willing to inform them who it was. I sit in Section 32 down front, so if you feel like throwing items on the field, I suggest you not sit near that section. Call me a tattle tale or whiner if you will, but I can guarantee you that in Europe where the passion of the fans is 100 times as great as in Rice-Eccles, this sort of behavior is strictly prohibited.
The only thing I support being thrown on a playing surface is an octopus at Red Wings hockey during the playoffs. That's just tradition.
Throw dirty looks. Throw a fit. Throw a temper tantrum if the team loses. People will understand and probably join in. Just don't throw whiskey bottles.
Were people really throwing glass bottles? I was more concerned that, without discipline or repercussions, people would eventually start throwing glass and other things more dangerous than styrofoam (which can still be dangerous if the game's still on and players get tripped up in it). I didn't realize it had already reached that point.
I dont believe glass is allowed in the stadium. Not that it justifies throwing anything. But I dont think they could throw glass bottles at the players.
Sure. I guess that cell phone that hit Fabrizzio Ravenelli in the dome during Marseille at Monaco in 98 (in which I was in attendance) didn't happen. Fact of the matter is it happens all the time. It shouldn't, but I'm not about to start Narking people out for throwing a coke at coach Ellinger.
There you go assuming again... Like I said it is dangerous and I will not apologize for doing the right thing. Call me what you like... I could care less.
Fact of the matter is that it happens... but doing nothing about it means it keeps happening and if you see it and do nothing than you are as much a part of the problem as the people doing the throwing.
Glass is prohibited... but that has not stopped bottles being smuggled in. There have been several empty liquor bottles thrown on the pitch from the stands. From the north end and section 37. it happens... trust me.
I don't go to the games anymore, so I can't really speak on any particulars.... But I do know that if I was sitting next to the guy that hit E. with the coke, I wouldn't scurry off to the rent a cop to narc him out..... Just me though.
