If whilst the ball is in play, a player on the field of play, throws an object at a person sitting in the technical area, what action should the Referee take?

    Julian,

Presuming that this is a significant object (not just a kiss!), send off the culprit for VC and restart with an IFK for the opposing team from the point of launch unless the opposing team has an awfully good advantage.

    Merry Christmas,
my good friend it is great to see you up and about
What reason could you have for posting this? Do you see room to disagree or error? It seems straight forward to me. Do you have an alternate theory?

It is the misconduct of the action that brings out the colour red. The restart is according to law for INDFK if the play was stopped for a referee seeing this action.
I suppose if it was a handfull of grass in response to a remark directed into the FOP we could alter our response if the object posed no threat. TL's point about advantage is true.
Could be the AR will be the one spotting such a goofy action bringing it to the attention of the referee a bit later. Then the restart might be different.

    FIFA Q&A LAW 12
A player throws an object e.g. footwear at a person seated in the technical area. What action does the referee take?
Play is stopped, the player is sent off for violent conduct and play is restarted with an indirect free kick taken from where the object was thrown.

Ah Grizz my friend, you know me too well.
I was hoping for some lateral thinking.
For example – what would you do if the object was a water bottle?
Or maybe a sponge? A necklace etc.
Is it always mandatory if a player throws an object towards the technical area – a spare ball for example
What ‘fine line’ constitutes sending off, warning of even a caution?
    The permutation is endless!
I know you love a challenge.
    Merry Christmas to you.

Don't think that it is endless at all. Doesn't matter what the object was that was thrown. The question that should be asked is was it thrown at an opponent or a team mate or some other team official or game official?
I think that a spare ball could be considered as thrown at a player etc. And, that the Referee could consider that violent conduct. You have to be there to see.
