It appears that Jamaica will be without Kemar Roofe for this one: Kemar Roofe is on his way back to Scotland and will not play against the United States on Tuesday.— Simon Preston (@SimonPreston93) November 15, 2021 I'm curious to see who we start with McKennie and MRobinson out.
My guess is we'll see Busio and Chris Richards come in. The only other change I could envision would be Scally for Yedlin. That one more to get the new guy some time with the main first team in a less pressure filled situation compared to Mexico at home.
Well, no mention of the backline or the middle three but we know who'll be in goal. Highlights from Berhalter presser:✔️Steffen will start in goal at Jamaica✔️Pulisic could've started vs. Mexico, but US felt he wasn't 90 minutes fit. In consideration to start Tues.✔️Full XI isn't yet decided. Conditions of field will play a role. USMNT trains this evening.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) November 15, 2021
I would not take that bet. But if either Arronson or Weah lose their place, Pulisic is likely the reason why. At least I hope so. Weah was man of the match for me vs Mexico and Arronson was a tad unlucky not to show up on the score sheet. He was excellent in his defensive pressure and you'd hate to lose that. Lleget over Bussio, I guess I could see that for some kind of "dependability" justification or some such. But only one of those guys can do a reasonable McKennie impersonation.
If you want a "McKennie-lite", Acosta's your man (weirdly), but then that turns the midfield very, very defensive and forces Adams to maybe be too much of an attacking force - though I trust him over most others to be that guy. I'd like to see Busio. Weah was my man of the match, with maybe Zimmerman as #2 (which was nice to see). Musah next. I think we need Musah in there for his strength on the ball and willingness and ability to run with the ball forward out of pressure - it makes a huge difference to have that sort of player. Pulisic, when he drops deep to collect the ball is also a huge bonus in the going-forward bit, but he doesn't have the strength/power of Musah and might get kicked to death. Not that I'm comparing Pulisic and Musah, because they play different positions, but Pulisic will come find the ball a lot more than, say, Aaronson or whomever is the center forward.
I would chose to have Acosta replace McKinnie. Busio is great when we have the ball but think we should expect to not dominate possession. My gut is Scally wont see the field and this is a game that Cannon will start. Greg doesn't like calling someone in for the first time and playing them right away (pepi is the exception and Musah the reality). I don't think he risk Pulisic with a start and again will have him come off the bench. I wonder how Weah is feeling and if we can get 45 mins from him.
Berhalter said: 1. McKenzie or Richards for Miles (no 3 back and no Sands). 2. Busio, Acosta, or Lletget for McKennie (not Roldan or Sands). Good to see Steffen getting the nod again and that Pulisic could be yealthy enough to start.
I wouldn't start Pulisic. If he's not 90-minutes-fit, he's not 90-minutes-fit. And while I would certainly be weary of saying "we should be able to handle it" when describing a CONCACAF road match, I'd be willing to play at least the first half without him and see where it goes.
I scheduled an in-home client meeting at 4, thinking the game would be no earlier than 7 pm. Who the ******** ok’d a 5 pm start time?
I am going to be interviewing someone with the game on a second screen. Does that make me a horrible human?
I'm trying to figure that out too. I know the game's being played in an empty stadium because of COVID protocols, but I don't know how (or if) that has anything to do with the start time.
The exact opposite thinking of the 9pm ET start v Mexico to enable west coast folks to watch. No idea what the thinking was, I know there is limited capacity in Jamaica due to Covid. Maybe making it at 5pm lessens the blow to the locals who can't go, helps keep gatherings down? That's the only reason I can think of.
Apparently they changed their minds... The government of Jamaica has reversed its decision to not have spectators inside the National Stadium for the Reggae Boyz World Cup Qualifier against the US on November 16.Five thousand fully vaccinated fans will be allowed to attend the game.https://t.co/EkDBG2GCCb— Nationwide90FM (@NationwideRadio) October 29, 2021 Fans will be there after all. Unless they've changed it again.
With an average age of 22 years, 341 days, this is the second-youngest XI in #USMNT WCQ history. 🇺🇸— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) November 16, 2021
Only lineup changes are forced by suspensions. Not too surprising. I was correct in thinking that Busio and Richards would be the ones to come in. Have heard reports that Scally will get a debut if the situation enables that. Nice to see that too. Excited for this one. Still deciding if i'm going to watch live. I am leaning towards no. I can half watch the first half while working, but then need to go make dinner for the family so would have to either barely watch the 2nd half or come back and watch the second half later. So, I'm leaning toward not watching live at all and going on a blackout until the replay posts on Paramount+. I hope it's not super late, last time i did this it didn't show up until nearly midnight.
So forgive me for not having paid attention but do I really have to watch this game with Spanish audio?
