The mods will probably pimp slap me, but I had trouble sorting through the other half-dozen trade threads this morning to find the latest info and thought it might be good to have a new thread for Friday developments.
Bergin is reporting that nothing new has happened so far with the DC - Metros trade. Apparently, the coffee maker in the MLS HQ broke and is holding things up.
he just reported that he was told it may happen soon. whether it is the coffee maker or deal who's to know.
So we have heard absolutely nothing today, right?? THamlin, head out to the United office. Tell them you thought the equipment sale was today and see what you can find out!!
I've been checking all day. The only resolution was the coffee pot was resigned and hudson plans to trade the coffee pot to the SoS for their teapot. It's driving me loony.
But that coffee pot still has life in it and that teapot tends to blow it's top too much. Kettle, you jackass if you trade that coffeepot I'm gonna be right in front with my "TRADE TEAPOT, FIRE KETTLE" sign.
Well, is there any information about the rumor of DC United being forced to trade our coffee pots to the Charleston Battery?
Complete speculation on my part. But as I write this, it's 5:16pm on a friday, the weekend before Christmas. Here is what I think is happening. ...MLS HQ ain't going to give Marco a pay increase. ...they want to give him time to stew over it and go with the UAE offer (if there is a legitimate one) b/c MLS doesn't want to be seen as forcing Marco out. Far better (PR-wise) if he is seen as choosing to leave for a better contract than being told "no contract for you buddy-boy." ...it's late in Europe. Any decision on doing the deal with SoS or Chicago won't happen unless Hudson is consulted. The challenges of connecting with everyone AND probably a desire to "sleep on it" mean that I'm going to be surprised if we see any resolution before monday. So, 48 hours more of the crickets I think (and possibly longer if people decide to wait until AFTER Christmas to resolve this matter.)
Yeah, Bergin knows the mystery man from the third team - he's been on the line for almost a month now. He was just waiting for this trade to go down to clear some cap room. They'll need it in order to get him. This one is going to inspire some emotion in both directions. I wish I could tell everyone who it is, but I have a deal with Chris. I will say that the guy's a winner. Bruce
I'm sure it isn't, but I'd be quite happy if it were Brian McBride. Other big name players I'd love to acquire include Simon Elliott, Richard Mulrooney, or Brian Maisoneuve. But the Columbus players are probably too fragile, and the others too hard to get. -Tron
