Well I'm not a fan of baby blue as a color. I dont really like it on the Nuggets - but they switched to be more uniue. Nobody else in MLS really has anything like them - but it still reminds me of teh North Carolina Tar Heels (bleah, grwing up in MD as I did). Prefer teh Burgundy - maybe the light blue will grow on me eventually - but still would prefer them to be darker. jeff
Funny you mention this.... My answer is here (May 1 entry, see picture caption): NoFanAlone.com. Blue is the new white. Great show, finally got to hear some of it live. The podcasts will ultimately work better so I can listen during workouts and other times my kids aren't screaming at me. Thanks for allowing a couple tough questions, focus on getting to the meat of the matter and picking 'Celo's brain. Love to have other coaches like Dom there. Too bad you didn't ask why Houston is probably saving up all their goals for us on Saturday Cheers, BilFish
I like the uniqueness and I think they look good on the players. They'd look lousy on me though, so I went with the maroon . It actually was a slight annoyance since with the probable future name change I wanted the jersey that said Colorado on the front.
I like the light blue jersey by itself, but I think that with the light blue shorts they look like they have their "jammies" on. I wish they would try the white shorts instead. At least this week's away game didn't look like they were having nap time in the "jammies". (By the way Graeme, Jasonma was refering to the potential name change to something involving Arsenal. But so far my U35 team will remain the Rapids and the U11's in the area can keep using Arsenal. )
I've been trashing the MLS all white road concept for a long time. It is about time a team picked something else. I actually prefer the road blues to the home burgundys.
I dig the blues and the burgundy and well. Gotta say that I'm in the same boat and Bonji. The all white road unis are so blah. Doesn't differentiate one team from another. These are unique and sharp and certainly distinctive. Bravo to the Rapids for moving in this direction and kudos to the designers.
Agreed. I’d love to see the light blue tops with white shorts. All light blue looks like a dirty white on the television. I’m busy in the garage as the first road game starts on TV. I ask the wife, “how do those new light blue kits look?’. She responds, “They pretty much look all white to me”. I rushed in to see for myself, and although I don’t think they necessarily looked “white”, I had to agree that they looked less spectacular than I had hoped. IMO, white shorts would give a good contrast, so you could actually tell they’re wearing a blue top.
At first i was a bit undecided when i first saw them but i really love them now. Watching the game, they just looked lovely. Nice stuff.
The blues are great but I agree that they might look even better with white shorts. And what about blue shorts at home?
Contrary to the white shorts advocates (I think white shorts look like grade school P.E. when worn with colored jerseys) I think the light blue would really 'pop' with maroon shorts. The light blue shorts could work with the maroon tops too so they wouldn't have to pitch them. The white shorts could work for practice so nothing would have to be thrown away.
The blue and burgundy/maroon are both good, although I like COLORADO on it instead of Rapids, cause of the possible name change. Collars I don't mind to much.
PHENOMENAL !!! Any time you get a support from another team to give high praise on the road kits, like an FCDallas honk recently did in another thread, you got 'lightning in a bottle' of a product.
For the most part I like them... They are just generic enough to appeal to a mass audience. Honestly, I wish the whole kit was blue or they would wear maroon shorts, I am not a big fan of white shorts -but that is just me. The one thing I wish the Rapids would do is change the numbers/names. Chivas already has gold, but I think these two kits would look sharp as hell with silver numbers on the back - especially the home shirts. Man would that pop! Outline the names in black so theat they are easily visable, but make the rest silver... the Ohhhh factor alone would sell more units. And if you could specialize... $$$.
I would prefer the burgandy shorts also, but I was offering a solution that they could do today with what they own. I just think that the matching shorts, in the powder blue, makes them look like PJ's. In general I'm getting pretty used to the change, just tired of spending money on jersey's and my whole family not owning the right colors. We have a family of four with 3 green, 3 black/blue, and 2 of the new colors. Let's stick with one for the next 150+ years please! The English teams change their away colors to something different, last year Manchester United (a red/white team), had royal blue as away.
I don't like the pastel blue. I like the burgundy however. I'd rather see white with burgundy highlights.
