My fellow Gooners today is a day that one should never forget...today we celebrate the 15th birthday of one of our clubs finest, if not finest moment. The date was

    May 26th 1989

The time was a late Friday night..
    The venue was Anfield Liverpool..
The clock had ticked past 90 minutes
    The reds were in control
The yellow and blue had one last throw of the dice.

John Lukic threw the ball to his right..Lee Dixon collected the ball and sent a 50 yard pass straight to Alan Smith...Smudger then laid the ball inside to the maruading Michael Thomas...then the immortal words

"Its Thomas, charging through the Midfield....Thomas....ITS UP FOR GRABS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Yes my fellow Gooners the late by sadly missed Brian Moore still makes the hair on ones back stand on end and send the shiver down ones spine....

so...if you have the video of that fine night 15 years ago...pop it on, crack open a beer or soft drink, raise the drink and salute the one moment no true Gooner should ever forget.....

    all together now

"WE WON THE LEAGUE ON MERSEYSIDE
WE WON THE LEAGUE ON MERSEYSIDE
WE WON THE LEAGUE ON THE MERSEY
WE WON THE LEAGUE ON MERSERYSIDE"

    Thank you.

Welcome aboard Immortal Gunners, and you're off to a dream start as they say! How far have we come? Well living in the Northwestern Hills of Connecticut with no computer then there was no way to follow the match for me. I did call some TV stations to see if they had anything on thier newswires but they were like "What's Arsenal?" Probably should have asked about Liverpool-they showed the hooligans and the Hillsborough Tragedy, so they'd might have recognized them. And the one paper that might know in my area's phones were down when I called. I only found out the next day-well, that weekend, really then. Absolutely amazing. And it was still months before the details came to the fore where I was I still get chills, and I don't even have my tape anymore so if anyone could make a copy of the full match tape(at least til they put it on DVD like the 71 Cup Final-THERE'S an idea-Are You Listening, Arsenal?)for me, I'd be eternally grateful. I NEED to see it again...and again...and again...PM with details. Thanks all, and NEVER forget this day...

    Well thank you Martin

I have the game on video taped originally on the night, it has been played to death and i fear for its future..the tape is something i shall never part with...never, but next tiime i am up at Highbury (roll on August) i shall endeavour to find a copy of the night in question and would only be too happy to send it to you....until then perhaps someone else could help you.

Now.....my long suffering wife will have two options tonight...Monaco vs Porto..or the re run in full of Liverpool vs Arsenal 1989.....

I think you know what option will be in order... ;)

Thanks-funny thing Is I ve had so many positive responses I could open a Video Store, one day a year, for one video...But if I get them all my duty will then be to get one to every Gooner who still hasn't a copy all over the world. But if you could do that it would be fantastic. Any word on if this will get the same dvd treatment as the 71 Cup Final. Btw I know what's in order but you need a reserve copy yourself, then keep the original like a Dead Sea Scroll or draft of the Magna Carta. Thanks again, and enjoy the match. Hope we do well again this time...

To all the youngsters among us-are you a little worried about your age already? Funny thing is you'll be the same guys all those years later, even with the degrees, jobs, wives, kids...still obsessing about Arsenal...Just Like Us. I'd say welcome aboard in advance, but...I just did. Seriously, SEE these matches. They ARE Arsenal...

Wow.. imagine...next time, when we're talking about Henry's 2nd goal against Liv and talking about how good it was, the smaller ones would be wondering; "What?" :p

I have found myself already rehearshing my sppech for my grand kids about the legend of Arsenal Dennis Bergkamp..

    it goes

"Once upon a time there was this man called Bruce and he was not very well known, in fact he was so not known that Bruce was asked to leave the Arsenal after just one season to be taken over by a man called Arsene...now one thing that Bruce did was sign what quite frankly was the greatest signature since Ian Wright and the one that followed of Pal Lydersen (who????)..anyway this player was called Dennis, not Denis because the registrar in Holland said it was a girls name...in later years a guy looking like a girl called Christina played for the nasty Man Ure legion...But..enough of that..back to Dennis..now Dennis wore number 10..he wore it for what seemed such a short time, but in fact he wore it for 15 seasons (i know i have no chance of being right but one can dream) and scored some amazing goals....however, it was not just his amazing goals that did it, it was his poetic passing, his speed, his guile and most of all his ability to smack the ginger moron Steve Lomas in the chin...yes he had his moments..funny mostly vs West Ham that second rate side that think they are decent....

anyways i remember a day when off to Leicester we went..and it ended Leicester City 3 Dennis Bergkamp 3...ahh what a man what a player, what a genius..and his wife was not bad either...
So....to cut a very long ode short.....Dennis Bergkamp was and still remains the finest player ever to wear the red and white and its by no means a coincedence they named the Ashburton Grove East stand after him.....
ahhhh the Iceman..never to be melted...
    Thank you Bruce...

Now to the youngsters here...a question? Who was Bruce? :D

Unfortunately I am waiting for one myself, but soon as I get it you'll have one! Actually you may have to wait as I intend to watch it continuously for awhile. The Police will break in and find me in rigor mortis staring in amazement...
But seriously, are you a friend of Jeff Lancaster's? He said he had friends(or maybe family?)down your way. We'll have to get together sometime. PM me. Cheers and enjoy the holiday weekend.
