Yeah I know it's a vile dirtbag of a paper but the Washington Times has speculation on one of your thousands of GK's- the Maryland native one- ging to DCU with Rimando going to C-USA. Doesn't say what the Fire will get in compensation though. Just thought you'd like to know. http://washingtontimes.com/sports/20041029-114755-2844r.htm
I'd rather have Zach starting for us next year. Since that clearly isn't going to happen, I'd settle for Dema.
I like this line of thinking. I don't see it happening, but I really think Zach should be back in our net next year. Nothing against Ring but it just didn't look right.
We all know that this is wild speculation, but it's interesting that you folks are concluding that you would be getting something from DC. To me it looks more like a three-way "trade". You know: Thornton to DC, Rimando to C-USA, something from C-USA to Chicago. What is that something? An allocation? Chicago directs C-USA to pick a specific player? Of course it could be a pair of separate trades involving DCU. Just something to add to the rumor mill.
Well, from me at least, it's more wishful thinking that we'll be getting something from you guys. It could be a three way trade. It could be two heads up trades. It could be C-USA takes Zach in the expansion draft, and then trades him to you for Rimando.
But we already have THREE allocations to use yet, what're we going to do with a fourth? Getting Dema back would be the better deal is possible.
Can we get Thomas Rongen from C-USA to be our assistant coach? He and Sarachan already have guided teams to championships and then losing seasons back to back. Perhaps the two of them together would amount to a championship?
If we let Thornton go it would be another idiotic decision that plagued this club in 2004. Problem is this one might actually heavily weight in on our performance in 2005. Keep Thornton and get rid of Ring. Do you think Ring would be ever considered for national team job? I think it is as good of an indication as any on a team of 4 or 5 national team players and known for generating national team caliber players that we need more experienced and complete player. Ring is a good player for the A-league, Dallas, or expansion team but not Fire. We need a team leader and someone with enough experience who can actually help our defensive players be better and play as a unit. In a nutshell, why would you give up on a player that contributed to this team in all seasons since club's existence and did a wonderful job? Did he loose a job because he wanted to move on (can't blame him) and now it is Ring's time? Well, I want a keeper that actually won a starting spot instead of having it handed to him. Even if we let outstanding keeper go to DC who do we get in return? I would think it should be Nowak or Eskedarian but we don't need him with Razov, Ralph, and Herron already here, and I don't think DC would let Nowak go now. Moreover, why would DC want Thornton so badly? They do have a good keeper already in Rimando. Is it because Nowak actually knows that Thornton is one of the best goalkeepers in MLS?
I like the Dema idea a lot. His "FIRE" would help our team tremendously, it just seemed this whole season nobody cared about the games. They all just showed up and got a paycheck, then went home. His leadership would help us in the middle a lot next year if we could swing this deal. Chivas takes Rimando in EXP draft. DC trades Dema and a 3rd Pick to FIRE. Fire trades Thornton to DC. I'd say this is a good deal for us. It would be better if we could trade Ring to DC instead of Zach.
Deals like this or the above deals like Thornton for Gros and a pick or Esky or Quaranta and a pick are just plain silly. the fact is you have three good GK's and you will-guaranteed-expose at least one of them in the draft. The rumors make that out to be Thornton. Thus, neither DCU nor any other team will trade squat for him knowing that they can pick him up for virtually free. For example, here's a scenerio: Fire exposes Thornton. C-USA picks him then deals him to DCU for Rimando. To me the least plausible thing about this is why DCU wants to trade Rimando for Thornton, not that you guys get nothing. It would be interesting to see which 12 guys you think the Fire will protect and who gets exposed. Considering that the developmental players are out of this equation (Boucicaut, Capano, Clanton, Griffin, Pickens- I think that probably Jaqua and maybe Countess lose their P-40 status) I see you protecting maybe: Armas CJ Brown Curtin Gray Herron Jaqua Marsch Pause Ralph Razov Whitfield Williams leaving these guys exposed: Thornton Ibrahim Buete Dipsy Perez Then you have two more GK's, Ring and Countess. Maybe Countess stays P-40, we'll see. That leaves Ring either exposed or taking the place of someone else on the protected list. Doubtless you guys can make a better list than me, but the point I'm trying to make is that you will be leaving someone exposed who you'd rather not. Thornton seems fairly obvious, hence the rumors.
If they protect whitfield or williams I will strangle dave and peter.Even marsch is now too old and injury prone to protect.
Yes, by all means lets make sure Jesse isn't protected. Lord knows how well we did w/o him this year.
I sense the sarcasm here. I'll be the first to admit that I hate(d) Jesse Marsch, but I realized as the season went on that we needed him. Chivas only want's spanish speaking players? Who's there coach....LOL
He does seem to fire up the team somewhat (no pun intended) but how many goals or assists did he have? He is now too old to expect him not to miss games because of injury. I like jesse but he is not the greatest player in MLS. Did we win the final game of the year with him in there? We started winning when we got Herron and mapp played well, it just happened that was the time jesse came back. You protect the guys you think will be taken. Chivas isn't going to take him, he isn't latino and salt lake isn't going to want an older player who was hurt most of last year and who makes too much money when you can get a younger player cheaper.
You honestly think Steve Pastorino wouldn't jump at the chance to take Jesse Marsch? You are an idiot. In 8 proffesional seasons Jesse has scored a total of 66 combined points from goals and assists. That's about 8 whopping points a season on average. If you are looking to Jesse for offensive production you are looking in the wrong place and will probably always be. Remember how surprised even Jesse was when he scored those two goals late in the season in year two of Naperville? Jesse isn't on the team to score. He is there to control the midfield and break up other team's offense.
