And therein lies much of the current regime's problem. Regardless of whether the current front-office chooses to believe it or not, the current incarnation of the Earthquakes is officially the continuation of the previous incarnation! After all, why the heck would they have even wanted to distance themselves (as they have with, among other things, the unfortunate and unnecessary changing of the logo, wordmark and primary kit color order) from the two-time MLS Cup champions, one-time MLS Supporters' Shield champions that were great in the community and all that? If anything, they should've milked that connection for all its worth rather than actually having added layers upon layers of disconnect from what should never have been disconnected from us in the first place. Quite frankly, that part that was quoted was quite possibly the worst thing they could've stated. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Can we put that quote in context? Isn't that what we want to hear? By the way, not that you guys would notice, but Justin Morrow is a cutie. Not sure what "fan-friendly braids" are though. Do we get to play with them at half-time?
No kidding. Some people have such a large axe to grind, they use it to cut sentences in half and change the meaning entirely.
It didn't change the meaning in the slightest, as it would've been more accurate of them to say that it's officially the same team but with new/different ownership and management who, unlike the previous ownership, doesn't plan move the team (or something to that effect)... pretty much like the Cleveland Browns situation in the NFL, the only other example in North American pro sports to what happened to our team. It also doesn't change the fact that they still unnecessarily changed a ton of stuff precisely just to distance themselves from the previous incarnation, something the current Cleveland Browns thoughtfully and thankfully didn't do. What I wrote absolutely stands! GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Although to be fair, I'm sure that Graves was simply referring to the comparison between the current ownership and the previous ownership. He just needs to be more clear and specific about that if/when making such statements in the future. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
It was clear. The reporter's grammar perhaps leaves something to be desired, but it's inside the same sentence. The use of semicolon implies the "Letting people know that we're not the Earthquakes of old;" is in fact so intimately related to the second part "we're a team that's going to stick around, that's a big challenge," that it can't even be distanced by using the more grammatically distant punctuation of a period. If you leave the entire sentence intact, it's just fine. I think getting out the message that they're not AEG and they're not picking up their toys and heading to a different sandbox tomorrow if everything doesn't just go perfectly today is exactly what they want to say. Whether they'll always believe that, who knows. But if they believe that as of today and that's their message, that's good.
Yes your edit did change it. As someone who completely agrees with the position that this FO practices change for change's sake, you're being myopic by splitting that sentence in half.
Agreed. If it's one piece of continuity with the Pre-2005 Quakes we don't want it was the waffling ownership and constant threats to move. It is nice here them voicing that they're here for the longrun unlike AEG and all our previous owners.
There's no comparison between the present ownership and the foul, evil, slimy, stinking, rotten, butt-sucking, insidious AEG rulers.
I found a funny "fan-made" E-quakes commercial... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7LuCBMDvnc"]YouTube- San Jose Earthquakes Soccer Ad[/ame]
That's pretty good for a fan-made commercial (though it includes a frighteningly adult-sized baby's arm ), and at the end it even correctly declared the San Jose Earthquakes the Bay Area's MLS team. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
The important thing is, "where was it filmed and who was behind the production?" Until I know that it was a 100% bay area product I just can't approve it
