It is a bizarre phenomenon to have a man who runs the House so ideologically unappealing that the Republican Party wouldn't dare make him Speaker. It's surreal. We have a a figure-head Speaker and this extremist Majority Whip who really runs the show. Perhaps we should call it the Gingrich Factor.

He's not as bad as MikeLastort though.

Just out of curiosity, do you actually like Tom DeLay? The man is a lunatic.

Tom DeLay is nuts, and every REASONABLE Republican -- and yes there are such animals -- KNOWS it.

You don't think his wacky views aren't marginalized? They are.

Really, I wouldn't worry about him.

If I were you, Mike, I'd spend a lot less time fussing about Tom DeLay, who nobody takes seriously even within the Republican party, and a little more time worrying about Nancy Pelosi, one of the most far-left liberals in Congress who is wbout to be on TV every day for two years as the main voice of the Democratic Party.

She is WAY past jerk, pretty much bumping up towards kook.

Still, if you think DeLay is your problem, good.

and if you think the House Minority leader is going to be the voice of the the Democrats for the next two years you're delusional. There is this upcoming thing, mabye you've heard of it, called a presidential election, it tends to overshadow the minority leader of the lower chamber

    Stupid Question

What makes Delay a jerk or a clown?

I haven't seen anything out of him that's outrageous.

And Archer, if nobody takes him seriously why is he in the whip position?

This has the odor of lingering stink from the Clinton scorched-earth era. But I don't have much of an opinion on Delay, please give me some examples on his crazyness.

So you're saying that, from now until November of 2004, every time there's a piece of legislation up in the Congress the networks are not going to go straight to the ranking Democrat member of Congress for a comment?

Instead, they plan on tracking down one or two of the guys who might be nominated in August of 2004.

Boy oh boy, you'd better hope you're right.

How much are you willing to bet you're wrong?

It's gonna be a great couple of years. Barbara Streisand, Nancy Pelosi and Helen Thomas. I can't wait.

    This just in:

The Democrats figured if they were going to vote for a tragic victim of too much cosmetic surgery, they figured they'd go all the way.

And of course whatever the well-informed and unbiased Mr Patenaude opines must be gospel.

He probably really digs Nancy Pelosi though. Go Bert.

But just to be fair, I ran a search for "Tom Daschle Insane" and got 1123 hits, including this ditty:

(To the tune of "Do The Hustle")

You can be an *ss like Tom Daschle…press gives you a pass like Tom Daschle
Sit on books in chairs like Tom Daschle…pretend that you care like Tom Daschle
Be a lying jerk like Tom Daschle…make us think you work like Tom Daschle
Cheer on all the RATS like Tom Daschle

Be a lying scum like Tom Dasche…be a worthless bum like Tom Daschle
Pretend you’re aghast like Tom Daschle…put your nation last like Tom Daschle
You can be a pain like Tom Daschle…acting quite insane like Tom Daschle
Cheer on all the RATS like Tom Daschle

You’ve got to know he is not a nice guy…and all the time, he will LIE

Be a spectacle like Tom Daschle…show you’re full of bull like Tom Daschle
Go on the attack like Tom Daschle…stab us in the back like Tom Daschle
Be a silly fool like Tom Daschle…trying to act cool like Tom Daschle
Cheer on all the RATS like Tom Daschle

    Let me guess...Don Imus.

Pelosi hasn't even taken office, and already she's driving the elephants nuts. EXcellent.

Pelosi believes in evolution, so she can't be as crazy as BugBoy.

Is "driving the elephants nuts" the same as "driving them into paroxisms of laughter"?

Personally, I can think of few people I'd RATHER the Dems picked. She's just perfect. The inmates have taken over the asylum, and it only serves to further marginalize a political party that is fast fading into irrelevance.

    Excellent indeed.

    Re: Re: Stupid Question

I got 716 hits for Tom Delay, compared to Nancy Pelosi's 175.

    Al Gore's was 14,600 compared to Bill Clinton's 14,400.

    Dubya only has 12,800.

Look, Tuesday was a bad day. I concede.

But what prose would you have used to describe the Dems merely breaking even on governorships? Losing 10 House seats? Losing 5 Senate seats?

None of the Reeps want to answer that. Listening to Rush tell you that the Dems were crushed is as close as they get to clinical observation.

Rush, Rush, Rush. Psst: hey Dave: every talking head in America is saying the same thing. Even the left wing guys. Wake up, Dave.

You want to live in this fantasyland, great. Denial is a wonderful state.

But tell me this: except for Bill Clinton, who proved conclusively over and over that he was a singular entity with no coattails at all, what have the Democrats won since 1992?

And don't give me Al Gore. First because the game is played via the Electoral College, but secondly...

Well, maybe a graphic will help.

This is a chart showuing the county-by-county results for 200:

While obviously Gore won the big population centers, he won little else.

And the areas he won are overwhelmingly areas which are shrinking, while Republicans won in areas which are growing.

And if you take away the black vote, which he won 90% of by scaring black people to death (which won't happen again) Gore was MURDERED, across the board. Women, ethnics, young, old, doesn't matter. Bush killed him.

It's why the Dems work so hard at whipping up this "Republicans want to resegregate the lunch counters and bring back slavery" nonsense.

    Because they're losing. Badly.

But please, go ahead and keep deluding yourself. Fine by me.

Sorry Brian. Just one more? Please?

The stroy is that he showed up in Court with that surgical mask thing he wears. The Judge ordered him to remove it.

Witnesses say he was wearing pink lipstick, his eyebrows were heavily penciled and he seemed to have some sort of plaster on his nose which fell off.

And he blames Sony and Tommy Mattola because his record didn't sell.

Well, geez, the Democrats did make midterm gains in 1998. I mean, it wasn't anything to write a sonnet about, but since it means Dubya is King Arthur's brother that he won a midterm, then I guess Clin-Ton deserves SOME props. I'm just saying.

    Then move to Russia.

    Which he won.

    Newsmax T-shirt graphic deleted

Hmm, I think I can play this game, too.

While obviously Bush won the empty deserts and swamps where cars on blocks outnumber people, he won little else.

And the areas he won are overwhelmingly areas which are shrinking, like Wyoming and Idaho, while Democrats won in areas which are growing, like New Mexico and California.

And if you take away the white vote, which he won some disgusting percentage of which I can't be bothered to look up of by scaring white people to death (which happens all the time - man, crackers are gullible - and by the way, there's something a little uncomfortable about the current Republican line along the lines of "Take away the black vote and...." seeing as how that was exactly what happened in Florida and all, and it ain't as if Trent Lott marches in Martin Luther King Day parades) Bush was MURDERED, across the board. Women, ethnics, young, old, doesn't matter. Gore killed him.

It's why the Reps work so hard at whipping up this "Democrats are unpatriotic and don't understand the link between Saddam and Al-Qaeda" nonsense.

    Because they're losing. Badly.

But please, go ahead and keep deluding yourself. Fine by me.
