Since our grand performence in the World Cup, I can't stand it when there are no friendly matches for our US Men's squad at this time. I am anixously waiting for the Confederations Cup as well as our title defense of our Gold Cup Championship. I'm also looking ahead towards World Cup Qualifying in 2004. I can't help it. I think about the great goals by JOB & McBride as well as Donovan nailing portugal's own goal. The big goals against Mexico in the Round of 16. Clint's strike against South Korea and last but not least the 2 PK saves by Brad Friedel. I'm so anixous I want them to start now, but I know that I'm going to have to wait for next year. I want them to start right away so badly and prove the World wrong again that the USA can play with the big boys. I can wait, but it's going to be tough. I keep replaying the matches from the World Cup and the Final in the Gold Cup. I am ready.
The waiting for the next tournament makes international soccer competition that much more special. Passionate support for a club team helps in easing the wait.
Yeah, it does. But I'll never forget all the great moments the U.S. had. How I was screaming (and almost crying) when I saw our first score: 3-2. Unbelievable....... And now I think we're all ready for some more of those moments. Some more bragging rights. And hopefully I will be in attendence on day!
But then there is those of us where the nearest D3 team is 2 hours away let alone a MLS team. It's just not the same when you're not able to watch any pro soccer.
Washington Post reported today that US and El Salvador may play in Washington in November. I don't know if that will really scratch the itch, but it's better than nothing.
I wouldn't say our heroes though cuz the Bruce will probably use it as a test for new players like Bocanegra, Twellman, Howard (or the very underrated Rimando) and others.
I feel you, dog... For me, the frustration comes not from the lack of a friendly, but from the lack of an announcement about a friendly, or even the lack of an announcement about when the next friendly will be announced! Come on, Soccer House! Don't leave us (U.S.) hanging! At least tell us there will be a special announcement about our next friendly on Date X, so we can anticipate that! And then anticipate the game itself (not to mention buy tickets, book flights, etc.). Who knows how many fairweather fans gained over the summer have fallen away for the lack of sunshine cast on the team's activities and/or plans? I know it is not prudent to print up the tickets until the contracts are all signed; fair enough. But would it kill them to at least confirm or deny that (for example) "we are in discussions with Australia and El Salvador for friendlies in November," or "negotiations have broken down for a friendly with Brazil in Giants Stadium in August"? For U.S. Soccer's national teams program to stay in the papers, they need to take advantage of any scrap of news. As long as you're not playing any games, this is as close to news as U.S. Soccer national teams will get. Or that's what I think, anyway.
