Sepp wanted out though, didn't want to be fourth or fifth choice. He wanted a regular start. Nice player who I think will have a good career.
Actually Salah and VVD saying they want new contracts makes me feel very comfortable about the situation. It will get done. Trent remains the wildcard.
Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher said he wants to leave Anfield to prove himself, with the club seemingly having chosen to go "in a different direction". https://www.bbc.com/sport/articles/cqjlngqpzqqo
For those interested: Tuesday, September the 10th, 20:45 cest In which Virgil will face the German attack. Our EPL-defense (de Ligt-van Dijk-Timber) didnot look great in a 10 minutes chaos, which turned a comfortable 3-1 lead into a 3-2 clinging to keep the lead against Bosnia.
Every man and his dog was saying we needed MF reinforcements? It can also be argued a serious adjustment was dropping Endo and moving Grav to DM? All just an exercise in hair splitting.
I heartily second that! God, I hate Mexico!! (I love the country and the people - cartels excepted) but the football team and all the associations of its annoying modes of support are nearly as grating to my psyche as donald trump's larnyx
Not even a massive fan of the USMNT and yet just can’t stand the Mexican national team and their fans
He has earned his chance to be first choice somewhere. He is not going take the number one spot from Alisson any time. And with the Georgian coming in we can afford to let him go.
I’m at a loss to explain this one. In my opinion, Kelleher starts for 13-14 of the PL sides. He is an excellent keeper and a very good #2 behind Alisson. Sure he wants to start, but unless the club know for a fact that he’s gone, I don’t understand why they signed the Georgian. Kelleher’s statement indicates that he might have been happy to stay, but once they signed Mamardashvili, Kelleher decided for definite to move on. Is Mamardashvili better than Kelleher? I don’t know, but I do know that Kelleher has a lot of experience in England and has lived and breathed Liverpool for the past 5(?) years. An odd decision, no doubt and one I don’t agree with, unless I hear of some compelling reasons.
that's how I feel as well. forgive the pun but this seems like an own goal by the transfer nerds - unless they actually wanted to push Kell towards the exit. IIRC despite the concerns that he might get po'd being on the bench at some point and push to leave, he's never stated anything like that in public. Marmaduke might be a very good PL-level keeper in a couple of years, but we know Kell is already.
Yup, neglecting real needs up the pitch while making an unneeded keeper purchase is really pretty annoying.
Liverpool should always have one of the best keepers in the world, and it seems they've concluded that Kelleher probably isn't going to reach that level, while they think Mamardasvilli has that potential. I think the surprising thing about all this is the relative lack of interest in Kelleher from clubs who are likely to be fighting for Europe. We all seem to rate him pretty highly, but seems much of the football world doesn't, at least not high enough to spend a decent amount and make him their #1.
Here’s where and why I disagree. When Alisson was out for 15-20(?) games last season, Kelleher filled in not just adequately, but superbly well. I think he had a better goals conceded/minutes than Alisson and there were very few mistakes. Some, not none, but very few. Now that 15-20 game stint along with his other appearances is as good an audition as you’re going to get. In my book he passed. I watched Mamardashvili at the Euros over the summer and he was excellent, though he wasn’t as comfortable with the ball at his feet as either Alisson or Kelleher. But there was nothing in his performances that made me think, he’s miles ahead of Kelleher. He was as good as overall, bit better here and there, bit worse there and here. Overall, about the same. We went out and paid £29m for Mamardashvili and are hoping to get about the same, probably less for Kelleher. For two keepers that, in my book are about the same except one has way more experience than with the Club and the League. And he’s the one we’re getting rid of? I’m sure the stats boys must have something that shows Mamardashvili is better than Kelleher but I don’t see it - not that that is a deciding factor. Nevertheless, I’m entirely unconvinced that this makes sense on or off the field.
I’d say “trust in Klop” but he’s gone now…and Slot has not yet quite earned our trust…so…here we are… The stat boys surely have a reason for what they are doing… ‘my guess is the Kel came to them privately and said ‘I want to play - play me or sell me to someone where I can’
Kelleher statement last week shows that that wasn’t quite how it worked. Reading between the lines he did ask for 1st team ball, didn’t pull the play me or sell me card. He specifically said that he has only asked to be sold once the club went in a “different direction”. It was more, I’m pissed off being #2 and if a fabulous offer comes in, maybe I’ll go, but I can live with it. And then Mamardashvili.
I believe we would have been happy to sell if we get a decent bid. His agent needs to do the hard work too. In addition, IMO we believe Jaros to be equally as good as Kelleher, which I’d agree with. I’d imagine our goalkeeper room will be Mamarsh and Jaros in 2026 / 2027 latest
Again, I don’t understand the love for Jaros. Not saying he’s not a good keeper, but has he played a single minute of 1st team ball? How can we compare Jaros and Kelleher when we’ve yet to see Jaros in the heat of battle?
If a Prem team starting goalie gets a bad injury in the next couple of months Kell will be a hugely popular transfer target. Dunno why you think we didn't get a decent bid. Maybe we did - Kell was fine until Marma showed up, so his agent's work ethic would be irrelevant.
