It won't happen, Terp. They'll get money for Joe next year and a lot of cover this year.

Chiesa looks like a very smart deal. Attack looking pretty solid.

“But I agree - a lot of rubbish is being talked, frankly. I think he'll sign - and not just to assuage my terrible anger if I were to ever see him in Real Berna-Scum shirt....”

Really? How do you know? Are you read in or your opinion ?

I think Elliott’s role is backup to Dom as the number 10 which proved to be a great role for him in preseason. He’s been unlucky not to get minutes so far this season, but that will change when the calendar gets more busy. Looks like Liverpool want two players for every position.

Beyond the players who started the first two matches we have: Bradley, Quansah, Gomez, Tsmikas as a backup back 4. Jones and Endo as backups to Grav/Macca. Elliott for Dom. Chiesa for Salah. Darwin for Jota. Gakpo for Diaz.

If Gomez leaves we need another defender in. If we had signed a 6, I’m sure Endo would have been out.

The challenge for Elliott will be whether he can be net positive on duels. We’ve seen this is key to a Slot team and Elliott’s not the best at that.

He’s got everything when we’re on ball tho.

I think Elliott offers more than Dom in a game against a team that has parked the bus and we are struggling to break down. But Dom offers way more physically. His runs in behind are way more threatening, he has a better ability to pull out into wide areas, and does more to help the defense. Having two players that can play that role is important.

I also wonder if Slot would fancy any of the 6 forwards in the #10 position.

    Post 735.

735 posts and all we have to show for it is Chiesa and Marmaduke Willy. I’m sure we’ve destroyed a f.ucking Amazonian jungle with server heat or something for Chiesa and Marmaduke Willy.

100% In fact I’d like to switch Dom and Mac b/c that’s elite athleticism from the 2 pivots. We saw against Brentford how often both Dom and Gravey sprinted back to protect the break.

Bobby would be amazing in that 10 role. I miss that dude.

Think Gakpo could do a job there. Chiesa played as second striker at Juve last year so he'd be an option. Add Jones to the mix and that's 3 players who are unlikely to unseat the current starter in their preferred position that Slot is going to want to get on the field in some way.

I know I'm in the minority on this, as everyone seems to love him, but I'll admit I've continued to be a Harvey skeptic even though he's put in some good performances and is still developing. I'm just not sure he'll ever unseat Dom as a regular starter any time in the next 5 years and because he's clearly limited in the number positions he can play or the opposition he his suited to, he's not going to get the minutes he would like. Nyoni probably has higher ceiling and wouldn't be surprised if he's pushing Harvey out the squad by the end of the season.

There’s more value in this Chiesa signing than in all the Boehly/Chelsea signings.

I know he’s had ACL injuries, but after Euro2020 (held in ‘21), Chelsea’s bid of £85m was rejected by Juve.

If he has to be loaned anywhere I much prefer seeing Baj go to Salzburg . I don't want him anywhere near Barca. Hopefuly Pep gives him the playing time he needs to progress and we get him back in time.

Interesting that Barcelona were interested. What use did Barcelona have for a 19 year old coming off an injury on loan? Unless Liverpool and Barca discussed a permanent sale?

Anyway, I think joining Pep will be a good move for him. He gets to be the main midfielder in a team that plays a similar style and dominates the ball in their league. He also gets Champions League experience.
