nope. that's why they're looking for a “ingeniería financiera” which roughly translates to "someone find a book we haven't cooked yet!".
but it will always be a huge magnet for Latino players. unfortunately. language + climate + culture will always draw them in.
All these stories have been coming out of Spain— there’s never been any public comment from Liverpool. And there won’t be.
Does this mean that LFC, as a matter of normal recruitment procedure, won't comment on something like this or are you thinking that these stories are simply total shite?
I won't presume to speak for RedBird, but for me it's LFC, as a matter of normal recruitment procedure, won't comment on something like this. also, I strongly suspect these stories are bollocks - just the Spanish media shit-disturbing. (it'd be stupid to say anything about almost any transfer activity, never mind this particular one.)
The story supposedly is - and this has played out a million times before - that Sociedad pulled out all the stops to get Zubimendi to stay including the nasty little kicker of having him pay his own release clause. But part of the sweetener was that he renegotiated his contract and pay. Once he (re)committed to Sociedad and left Liverpool in the lurch, Sociedad then turned somewhat nasty and the rumor is that his renegotiated contract isn’t quite what was agreed to. So, and I stress this is all supposedly, he’s not feeling the expected love for or from Sociedad and maybe Liverpool wasn’t the worst option. But if this is true, and it’s a lot of speculation, it’s a huge jump from there to reopening talks with Liverpool and another one again to his turning up on Merseyside. Furthermore if this is true, Liverpool are best served by keeping totally silent. Zubimendi knows how Liverpool feel about him, what they were willing to pay him and so on. There’s little more they can do both strategically and legally (tapping up). I’d still rate the chances of Zubimendi rolling up at Anfield this window at less than 5%.
Speaking for myself ... it really is amazing just how much a life-long LFC fan takes the mere possibility of adding a useful/needed first team player to heart. I'm sure that I seem pretty naive to fans who've followed these kind of recruitment stories over and over again, but, for me, it really is quite a blow to read/hear that we had a quality No. 6 on the line ... and lost him.
There’ll be others. Maybe not in time for the Ipswich game, but there’ll be others. There always are.
I am probably more frustrated about the (non) renewal of the Virgil, Mo, and Trent contracts than any incoming players
The delay on this is 1) baffling and 2) inexcusable. If you aren't renewing VVD and Mo - find your replacements (you can't really) last January and early this summer. What's the point in delaying? The delay in renewing Trent is also odd. If Trent has given the club an ultimatum that he will only play midfield (where he showed in the Euros he isn't a natural) - then we have to move him on for a fee. If he hasn't and just wants to be paid - then pay and then figure it out later. The wildcard with Trent could be the Bellingham situation too.
Those three may not want to renew. I'd say the fact Trent hasn't got a new deal with a year to go now suggests to me that he's likely going to do the same as Can and walk away. Probably to Real to join his pal Jude and also pick up a massive signing on bonus. All three can sign a precontract with another club in Jan.
My guess with those three is that they kinda want to wait and see how things play out with Slot - if Slot Ball works, and they fit the system, they will re-sign with LFC and perhaps end their careers here. If Slot Ball fails and things begin to fall apart...VvD, Mo and Trent will probably all leave (for greener pastures), and that will be the end of Mr. Slot as the whole thing will need to be rebuilt Of course, I am hoping for the first alternative! COME ON YOU REDS!!!
Can't blame any of them for not signing an extension, with a new manager who is still somewhat of an unknown quantity.
So if we don't tie any of these three down to new contracts then next season we may need to sign an attacker to replace Salah , a cb to replace Virg and a rb . Plus we still waiting to find the perfect player for dm. Interesting times.
Right now, I’m more interested in what changes Slot is bringing to the team with what’s there. After all, he was brought in on the basis of promoting from within and Klopp et al left him a good legacy both in terms of the first team and players from the Academy who’d tasted first team action; maybe he isn’t going to implement the wholesale personnel changes just yet.
Luis Diaz won’t be going anywhere this summer. That major update comes straight from the Liverpool head coach, Arne Slot, ahead of the new Premier League season. Fabrizio Romano relayed the manager’s words on X (formerly Twitter) after the Dutchman was posed a question about the Colombian’s future at Anfield. Judging by the former Feyenoord man’s comments, it appears unlikely the Reds will part with the left-sided winger any time soon. 🚨🔴 Luis Diaz is NOT leaving Liverpool despite links with Barça and Man City, says Arne Slot.“Luis Diaz's future is with us. I like a lot of what I've seen. He has had a big impact, I like him a lot”, Slot added. pic.twitter.com/EfBzb9BQih— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 16, 2024
