The key to Slot’s system, rather than formation as in 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2, from what I’ve seen is the ability to look after the ball. I think it’s fair to say that we’ve largely been ordinary on that front in recent seasons but we’ve more compensated with blistering counter-attacking football.
🚨 Real Sociedad expect Martin Zubimendi to accept move to Liverpool, according to #Sociedad sources. Clubs would still need to agree fee, unless #LFC decide to trigger €60m release clause - which needs to be paid in full. yeah - this seems like it's def happening now - just a question of how. Will they agree to us paying a touch more but over 2-3-4 years?
This guy is a defensive mid right? If so, sounds good. If they end up with a CB and maybe Gordon then move a few on who aren't expected to feature heavily re: minutes... that sounds like a pretty decent window all things considered.
yes - but with a bit more of the occasional float and dazzle into unusual spaces than the standard #6 ala the Colombian Richard Rios.... now there's a guy I'd like to get !!
I agree. If we can add Gordon (or someone like that) and one defender on top of Zubamendi, that would be an ideal window. And yes, it may mean there needs to be a few outs.
Gordon, I think really wants to join us - but if Luis Diaz isn;t pushing to getout, I don't see it happening for a year. I'd like to see what Diaz does with Slot's winger emphasis first myself, actually.... It also helps by giving more time to get over my earlier dislike of Anthony Gordon - although he does seem like a good chap and not a really annoyingly invested blue-arsed blue-nose...
Hopefully more like "fabio and sepp out on loan, sell phillips" as opposed to "sell Fabio, Gomez, and Diaz", IMO. Because there are outs, and then there are outs. Really interested to see how this shakes out. Gordon might happen? Newcastle surely need to sell someone, and it sure feels quiet on the Isak/Guimaraes front. Unless I missed something.
No doubt, we need help in the center of our defense, but no one thinks that we need a left back, aye? Just askin,' mates?
I do - I'm not a big fan of Tsmikas and Robbo is starting to fade. Beck - should be given a shot at least as a back up. If we want a top level longer term solution - Ait-Nouri is one we can get.
The Twitterati are claiming the Zubimendi deal isn't happening. Not based on anything as far as I can tell.
Word is Sociedad are trying to dissuade Zubi from Lpool. I'm sure its not the first time a club has tried everything to hold onto a top player . On the plus side he must be interested or they wouldn't need to anything.
Arsenal were supposedly sniffing around a while ago and he himself said he’d prefer to stay at Sociedad.
If the shoe was on the other foot we'd all be hoping Trent would decline an offer from Real Madrid so it's all down to Zubi though he hasn't rejected us outright so we'll see.
Sometimes we just have to accept "I don't want to leave" to mean "I don't want to leave" and not "I don't want to leave..............unless you adhere to my demands" It's well documented he's rejected multiple clubs to stay, he's stayed his whole life in the Basque region and will probably follow many others like Munian, Inaki, Inigo, Illarramendi, De Marcos who've stayed put.
Yes, in my mind, Andy can no longer hold up as a full-time starter - and Tsimikas is clearly not the answer to this important issue. As stated over in the Player(s) that caught your eye during the Euro 2024? thread, I loved watching Ferdi Kadioglu at the Euros and, although being right-footed, he covered the left side as well as anyone I've watched in quite some time. I don't follow players based strictly on their numbers, but Ferdi did have better attacking stats than Andy in the Euros tourney - even if you consider the number of minutes played. The number of times that FK had the ball was significantly higher than AR and, as far as passes into key areas goes, FK was excellent. Ferdi also showed that he can tackle extremely well during his (5) matches on the left. On top of that, FK was born in Holland and is said to have the ability fill other positions well. In short, I'd really hate to see this young bloke in West Ham (or any other EPL) kit. It's really a shame that the folks who are responsible for transfers at LFC don't see the same need. Regardless, I will check out this bloke, Ait-Nouri (Wolves), that you mentioned. Cheers - YNWA!
Liverpool are still interested in Germany and Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier but the 21-year-old wants to join Borussia Dortmund and is in talks with the Bundesliga club. (Sky Germany)
I do have to say that it's very nice to see a player really fighting to stay with the Reds. Although I don't think that Endo's the best ball handler, he's plenty tough and is certainly a great choice when we're trying to protect a lead. In other words, I don't think he's our "premier" No. 6, but it isn't a bad thing to have him available to come off the bench, aye?
