lot's of click-bait style angst articles about MU signing Lenny Yoro after we'd apparently "indicated" interest earlier... but I'm not sure we need two up-and-coming defenders, afterall we already have Quansah. Found this to be a good read. If Yoro is supposed to be a "generational talent" how do his numbers stack up against Quansah's? Pretty much the same, if anything Quansah's stats mostly exceed those of Yoro, and Quansah's been playing in the EPL, which is a tougher league than Ligue 1
Speaking of clickbait. I think I’m blocking 2-3-4 “Liverpool” pages/sites a day on FB now. Incredible invented stories that bear no resemblance to any sort of football reporting and almost seem to have a crossover with QAnon and MAGA for conspiracy theories (Klopp really hasn’t left and will be running things from a secret office...). And for some odd reason, 75% populated by African “fans” in the comments.
I'd never heard of Yoro until recently but by all accounts he's a top prospect and Utd have got themselves a good player. However , I also read that besides the cost in fees and wages that Yoro also wanted some guarantees re playing which Lfc couldn't give . We saw him as a long term project whereas Utd must be intending to use him from the get go which might ruin the lad if he's not quite ready.
I’ve had numerous “stories” on my FB account about “terrible news” from VvD, Salah, Nunez, TAA, even Slot…I just scroll passed them…
I'd like to see how well he does against EPL opposition. Not sure I'd be willing to risk ~£58M on an unproven defender given the defenders we already have and probably being able to get players with much longer pedigrees for the same or less. But then we're not in the same position as MU is right now. Likely they have to take the gamble, but really wonder why they are doing this instead of the "safer" De Ligt option - maybe De Ligt was significantly more expensive (he did sign for Bayern for ~€70M back in 2022).
Somebody like Mario Hermoso would be a perfect 'bridge' for us as a CB - he's 29, experienced, can play as a hybrid LB/LCB, has a couple years left in his tank. But we are not linked with him and everybody else in the world is.
Liverpool centre-backs Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio considering their options with both expected to move on. Interest in Williams from League One and clubs in Turkey, while Koumetio has options in Scotland and France. One report has now hinted that Liverpool-linked attacker Baris Alper Yilmaz could be on his way to Merseyside after the Reds submitted a £25.2m offer and some speculation that the player is currently in London. The ongoing transfer saga involving Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi has taken a significant turn, with Arsenal stepping back from the race, thereby clearing the path for Liverpool to make their move. Johan Bakayoko has admitted that he could leave PSV Eindhoven this summer after being linked with a move to Liverpool Liverpool would be tempted to cash in on Caoimhin Kelleher if a “big” offer arrives this summer, sources have told Football Insider. Eredivisie side PSV are willing to break its club record to bring in Sepp van den Berg this summer and will be prepared to offer up to €16 million for his purchase. Liverpool have joined both Atalanta and Atletico Madrid in being in the race to sign Celtic's Matt O’Riley.
imasyko in the prior thread: Heck with them, based on the posts here I'm going to invest in Pornhub futures. good thinking, syko. Warren Buffett always advises that ppl should invest in companies they know a lot about.
Given Rhys Williams subsequent seasons after helping us to qualify for the Champion's League, it's an absolute miracle that that happened. I expected him to continue to develop into a PL level defender but his weaknesses have apparently been exposed. Klopp should have won manager of the year that season.
I haven't seen any - of course, not having a bloody FB account with which to waste my time helps.....
Liverpool and Newcastle are among the clubs interested in Dutch defender Dean Huijsen, 19, but Juventus' £25.3m valuation could be a stumbling block.
I think with Virgil Konate and Quan - plus Joe - many CBs will see their playing opportunities limited. apparently that's why that Yoro lad just signed for MU (that plus a ridiculous salary of course).
I would imagine he rotates w/ Gabriel, while Saliba rotates with White/Timber. Along with Rice, that’s a stout defense. I do think there’s vulnerability on the flanks.
not necessarily. it's easy to forget that this time last year we were all talking about the "Klopp 2.0" rebuild, which got us the CL and a trophy (the level we all hoped for after a rebuild). so moving immediately into another rebuild - don't see it being necessary at all. of course a lot depends on what happens with some upcoming contract renewals -- TAA and Mo in particular (Virgil has confirmed his desire to stay with us) and how some of the youngsters step up and solidify their places eg Baj, Bradley. the expectation that Slot will assess for a few months and then make moves if needed in January kinda makes sense. BTW when I listed Virgil Konate Quan and Joe I forgot about SvdB. I still have no clue if we'll keep him but I think he deserves a place based on his last 2 seasons abroad.
I have to keep moving to make a living, so I don't have a lot of LFC research time. This being the case, I want to say cheers for all of the great Reds info, mate! That said, I was wondering why FSG (and their LFC management team) weren't making the moves that were [supposedly] announced to the press weeks ago. Needless to say, though ... the thought that the Gunners are making moves for first team players is pretty frightening. I'm a very old school Reds fan, so the prospect of a mediocre "Top 4" season is pretty upsetting to me. I mean, crikey, who wants another Graham-Wenger type Arsenal period of dominance? Not this old geezer!
I think he will play left back. Arteta is still copying what Guardiola does. City play with 4 centerbacks. Guardiola signed the Gvardiol and used him at left back.
