A great quote from USA TODAY from Alecko Eskandarian: "I've been dreaming of playing in MLS since I was 10." That's awesome. The more kids that grow up with that dream, the better MLS and US Soccer will be. Thanks MLS!
Now we know why Eski left college early. His soccer skills are there but his math skills suck. Or, he's so brilliant that he's a junior in college at 16 years old. Either way, I hope he gets a good agent and plays for the Metros. Don't worry Alecko, I'll keep track of the score for you.
ummm, maybe his dad told him that there was going to be a new league in the US, something that was decided in...1990? when the US was awarded the 94 cup? yeah, that's the ticket. actually, i hear he was pulling for the league that was going to have different colored zones on the field that would restrict player movement and whatnot. remember the guy who was promoting that? yeah.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, and believe that he was ten in '93 or '94. Some of you may remember that one of the requirements for the WC coming to the US in '94 was that the US would have a top pro league. I expect that his dad being a former NASLer, Eski knew all about all that when he was 10. So no matter what the league would be named, he was already dreaming of playing in it even before it existed.
Guys, your reading comprehension needs work. It was Gaven who said that he dreamt about MLS since age 10, not Eski.
HA. How dumb of me. Still, the idea that kids grew up dreaming about playing in MLS bodes well for the future. Off to english class now. . .
