This forum is in severe need of moderation. And since two of our three mods have essentially buggered off - and who can blame them? - that just leaves one. And unfortunately that one is me. Its a sad state of affairs when I'm the one to be the grown-up, but here we are. And here's what's up:

Its quite simple, really. The name-calling and overt, intentional insults are no longer going to have a place in the Spurs forum. I'm not calling anyone out. I have been guilty myself. I'm not going backward or making any changes to what's already out there. But when I see such posts going forward, they are going to go away (if they happen; hopefully they won't). If deleted, they'll still exist, but only mods and admin will be able to see them. So if anyone feels that I'm acting high-handedly or unfairly, it will still be there for me to review with those higher up in the BigSoccer hierarchy than myself.

If anyone has any questions about this stuff, he/she can either post them here, or private message me - whatever one prefers. But enough folks have moved on, and articulated why, that its going to change. Again, I'm not pointing fingers. I'm not calling anyone out. But this place has become ropey as hell. No one is obliged to agree with you, whomever you are ... or how right you think you are ... or how daft they may appear (or actually be, for that matter). Disagreement is fine (obviously). Arguing is fine. Deliberate insults and name-calling is not. I'm not going to edit or modify such posts. They'll just be gone.

If this proves troublesome, I'll request that admin appoint (at least) one more mod. Or maybe I'll just eff off, myself. But enough people have done that already, and/or articulated why this place is vastly less worthwhile than it used to be, that I reluctantly feel obliged to actually execute the responsibilities that I signed up for some 15-20 years ago.

Again ... any question/issues ... feel free to ask. But I think its fairly simple. Hopefully, we'll all reel the personal stuff in a bit, this will all go away, and we'll have better, more engaging dialogues to show for it. Maybe some folks who've moved on will even come back.

Thanks, folks (and if I may, mates). Come on you Spurs, etc., etc.

As a fellow mod (elsewhere) and a mod who has been around since at least 2006, who has modded both as a benevolent dictator and a with an iron fist, I agree with the above. I have no interest in modding this forum, but I do have an interest in BS so I keep my modding duties active.

And, pook, this is not the only place (I'm aware of) currently having mod concerns/issues. I am for the iron fist as needed.

As a question, you don't have an issue if I call you (or anybody) a pessimist, do you? If so, I will stop, but I also hope you know it was in good fun.

Absolutely (and i would hope obviously) not. I wouldn't even begin to think of that as an insult. :D

And I'm not suggesting that anything that anyone finds a sliver of 'insult' in is bang out of order. A bit of indignation could do some folks (myself included) a bit of good on certain occasions. But I really doubt that folks will wonder what im talking about. If you're thinking, "was that out of line?", it almost surely wasn't.

Received and understood. Football's an emotive subject and the emotions can be taken to an extravagant extent. We've been provoked but our mistake was to retaliate which will no longer happen pooks. My other half can be a tad irascible and protective of me. We will comply.

"Pessimist" is almost a compliment when discussing Spurs.

    I consider myself a 'catastrophist', if that's a word.

A nice Greek word, as my old man would say...

    According to Gemini:

A catastrophist is someone who believes that the Earth's geological features and history have been shaped by sudden, violent events rather than gradual processes. This belief, known as catastrophism, contrasts with uniformitarianism, which proposes that Earth's features are primarily formed by slow, ongoing processes like erosion.

I think the last bit describes what Daniel Levy has done to Spurs.

As a married man of 21 years, I did suspect the abuse emanated from the feminine part of the equation, and I have to say I was quite amused at some of the tirades. Believe me, I have been called many things, in various languages.

My Hellenic and Gallic side has no problems rolling with the punches, but I know the Anglo-Saxons and their woke-dominated culture tend to be more sensitive to the cut-and-thrust of repartée, so fair play.

    When in Rome...

You suspected wrongly because it came from the masculine side of the equation. But we are moving on Golara so if you don't like what either of us post then just ignore it as we will you.

Ok all, well we're off to enjoy the summer's cricket and tennis so thank you for some good debating. There's not much to do now except wait until the new season starts so enjoy your summer all and see you at the start of next season. Good luck.
