Is anyone else faced with the frustration of the ODP sessions getting cancelled due to rain? We are having 3 out of 4 trainings this weekend which is a conflict because our daughters team has games scheduled both day. I guess Ohio South does not have access to turf fields... anyway, my daughter is faced with question of loyalty for her team or trying out for ODP. I am just super frustrated that ODP cannot come up with an alternative fields to play here in Columbus OH.
Our state ODP's second final pool tryout is tomorrow, and we are forecast to have heavy rain. They may only have one 90 minute (supposed to be two hours and cut short due to darkness) tryout to pick the final pool. The first year we did ODP, two of four practices were canceled due to rain and soaked fields, and they promised to make them up but didn't. This was frustrating, because even with four practices, the cost per practice was around $50, and essentially went up to $100 each for two 90-minute practices. Teams are "supposed to" let players participate fully in ODP, but some may be cranky about mid-season ODP tryouts. My son only made two of four ODP tryouts in August (our vacation not cancellations by ODP), and managed to get into the initial pool. Our state has ODP tryouts in August on weekends, and then March/April on weeknights. Unfortunately the weeknight tryouts (and later practices if he makes it) make it very difficult for players more than 90 minutes away to attend.
