smh @ Roman tryna buy the Women's league tho... its cool... our team is waaaaaaay better than everyone else's
You beat me to this, only mine was gonna say "I can't believe our lack of commitment to our young English players!"
Barcelona make 30m take it or leave it offer for Ade If Adebayor's comments were true, I think we should take it - provided we get a lump sum, no structured payments. Wonder where we would sell Hleb if Barca empty their coffers on Ade?
Ade just needs to be patient. He just got a new deal last summer, and Wenger has been saying players need to be resigned every two years so no doubt he'll be offered a new contract next summer if he sticks around. Sagna got a new deal after just one year, but i can only assume that means he was being paid almost nothing this year. But i wouldn't take 30 millon for Ade. We don't need the money, and Barca is asking 32 for Eto'o. Which raises the question, why does Barca want to replace their star with a player they feel is less valuable? Obviously they are either overvaluing Eto'o or undervaluing Adebayor, or both.
Even if we get 24 million for Ade I'll say it's a good business by us. 30 million is just daylight robbery and shows just how much a n00b their new manager is. We could get Villa AND Arshavin for that amount and still have some leftover. Quite frankly, I am not sure what the hell that new Barca manager is thinking. He announces his intention to sell Ronaldinho and Eto'o which already lowers their values significantly. And now even those idiots at Milan have enough brains to realise that Ade is nowhere near worth what we are asking for. It will be interesting to see how he plans to rebuilt Barca, cause if he plans to base Barca around Henry he'll be really taking a massive risk.
It's really tough trying to figure out whether to take the 30 mil or not if it were true that Barca were offering that. IF, however Ade said what he meant by he would only want to go there because they were paying more and thats that I would say to keep him and offer him more. Yes 30 mil may buy Villa and Arshavin but a) we wont buy both players, b)i dont think any of them could replace Ade.
And anti, I'd sell Ade for 30m. Two weeks ago I'd have said no, but now that his mind is primarily set on what he will get paid and how much money he has in his 401k there is no point keeping him. He will be distracted all season, disappointed that he couldn't move, and disappointed that we are paying him so little (which we will once Barca drops their interest in him). Who ever we get to replace him probably won't score 24 goals next season, but with the service we provide to our strikers its hard to imagine someone like KJH, Gomez etc. not being able to score at least 15, with a healthy Rosicky, Eduardo and RVP making up the short fall (which they should easily do as it's only 3 goals more apiece with hopefully 5+ months more playing time with which to achieve that).
I just don't see Ade sulking. I think he's just using the current interest in him to try to wrangle for some more money. And if he doesn't get it this year, he'll get it next year, as long as he's performing. But i think its telling that clubs like Barca and Milan have targeted him instead of the players you mentioned. Obviously they feel that he's a better option than guys like Villa, KJH, etc or they would be targeting them instead. And i think they're right.
Ade is a better buy as a striker as he is a physical beast. He provides speed AND height to any forward line, he has a tremendous work rate, and even when he is finishing poorly scores a lot of goals. If he manages to improve his finishing as much as he improved the rest of his game play in the next season he will probably be the most complete striker in the world 10 months from now. That said there is also a risk he sinks back to his form from the season prior to this one and becomes nothing more than a mediocre striker who didn't live up to his potential. I'd be willing to bet money on him becoming better rather than worse next season, but I won't be willing to bet on him staying here for the long haul after the side we saw of him this summer. I think its better to sell him now if we can get 30m for him, and get a player who will at least be 2-3 seasons away from a transfer saga, rather than having to possibly sell him for less next season if he still wants more money/greener pastures. As for our bid for titleware, if we can get a 15 goal a season striker for next season with the potential to get a lot more (like a KJH, Gomez etc) we should be fine as the difference should be covered by the returning trio. If Rosicky, RVP and Eduardo cannot combine for 9 goals more than they scored this season, we probably aren't going to win anything anyway. Adebayor + Hleb out, and 3 more decent attacking players in with those funds and I'd say we will probably have the most firepower of any team in Europe.
Keep Adebayor + Hleb and add 1 "decent" attacking player (Nasri) and I'd say we will probably have the most firepower of any team in europe.
I don't. Adebayor has never come out and said he wants to leave and neither has Hleb. In fact we haven't heard anything out of Hleb's camp in a long while. If they leave we'll deal, but we are far better off with them staying.
I want Hleb to stay, but I want the Hleb from the first 10 matches of last season as opposed to the one we tended to get for the rest of them. We were much more productive when he was on form.
