The Red Cross is pulling out after one of their people was murdered. This crime was the final straw, as workers have been complaining about the lack of security. http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapcf/central/03/27/redcross.afghanistan.ap/index.html
Yea too bad we are continuing to launch large operations there. We started Operation Desert Lion just recently.
If I remember correctly, the US had three objectives in Afghanistan: 1. get Osama bin Laden, dead or alive 2. eliminate al Qaeda 3. remove the Taliban Status of the three 1. not done 2. not done 3. in progress Not going so well is an understatement. And I'm sure that guy we put in charge, Dostum, is a great guy to meet at a barbeque. Real democracy after the liberation comes when?
Boy, it's a good thing Iraq is going off without a hitch. Otherwise people might think the administration doesn't know what it's *head explodes*
2. Our objectives in Afghanistan never included eliminating Al Qaeda. We know/knew they're a global organization. 3. The Taliban are gone.
> And I'm sure that guy we put in charge, Dostum, > is a great guy to meet at a barbeque. No one puts Dostum in charge. He takes charge. He is the overman.
We are doing pretty well in both places you guys need some patience. People in the middle east are very patient even when they play soccer they play counter from a bunkered defense. They have patience. They have nothing but time. Some of you are in a hurry. Patience is a virtue we have to feel that way also when dealing with these people. Calm down relax be patient. Will get them all eventually. You worry to much.
Heh. Be sure to mention our failure in Afghanistan to the thousands of Afghan kids who are going to school now because of us, or the new Afghan government that exists because of us, or the thousands of Afghan citizens who are having their villages rebuilt by us. I'm sure they'll be thrilled that those actions are considered to be a "failure". Actually, they probably won't care. Which is probably what they should think of this idea.
Afghanistan is much, much better off thatn it was before we got involved. Is the work finished? Absolutely not. However, the Talbian is no longer in charge, and has been eliminated as a single entity. Are there pockets of resistance? Yes. Do they pose a mojor threat to the Afghan goverment? Probably not.
I agree with you, up till the last rhetorical question. My deep, deep concern is that the US is NOT committing the resources necessary to do the job. And that's going to turn around and bite us in the ass one day. And it's not exactly an encouraging sign for post-war Iraq, either. There's a recurring theme here. The Bushies LOOOOOVE half measures.
Dude? How old are you 16 or 17? If I was president I would have only one foreign policy. That would be you fucck with us you die, and that's it. Very simple easy to understand, and I would definately use their oil to pay for the war as well as reconstruction of the country. Not doing that is stupid. I may even use their oil to help our economy. I don't care about the so called "innocent" because there are no innocent Iraqis. Other iraqis want to put others Iraqis in danger. That is there problem fire on Americans they are going to die. See, it is very easy to understand even iraqi's can understand this, and that is all they do understand. Told my son in law's brother who is in kuwait or Iraqi now. Something feels wrong it is wrong, don't hesitate kill them all. Idea is to live through it, worry the right or wrong later. I would not waste my time worrying about the wrong. The idea is to return home and nothing else.
Well, I just hope nobody forgets that the US hasn't yet won the war in Afghanistan. Al Qaeda and Taliban are both still active there. Osama bin Laden is still apparently alive. Also, remember that Bush I did not win the war in Somalia, either. So how is our recent record on wars: GW1 - Kuwait reclaimed. Saddam stayed in power. Even Bush the First felt like it was a hollow victory. It was a victory, though. Somalia - Lost site of the objective. I'd give it a draw, but look who we wear up against. Pretty much the poorest country in the world. Afghanistan - in progress. Only one of three objectives have been met. No democracy, and no hope of democracy or free markets, in the foreseeable future. We just sent another 1,000 troops there on the same day we started bombing Iraq. Iraq - supply line problems, no serious rebellion against Saddam, underestimated the opposition. The US will still get this one, since the objective is (I honestly forget) liberate the people, regime change, retribution for 9/11, grab the oil,... Since Bush II really wants to be a war president, he still has a lot to learn. 18 months ago, the entire world was on our side. Now, really just the British have stayed with us.
Theres also the other 50 nations that are with us. And dont forget that Australia, Ukraine, and Poland are there, they may not have many troops there, but hey, sacrificing even 1 trooper is good enough for me.
That's pretty scary. And other nations believe many Americans feel this way. This is why the US is despised in so many corners of the globe. Get a grip, fella.
What other nations? The Arab nations will always hate us because we side with israel. Is this the truth or is it a lie? Personally I do not give a shiit about any of them. Since Palestines love Saddam let Saddam help them get their own country. I do not want the US to help them in any way. We side with Israel because jewish kids here were smart enough to run and win positions in congress and the senate in the US. How many Arabs are senators and congressmen? France/Russia/Germany and China do business with Iraq, and some or all use their oil. They have a motive for their dissent. The war is about oil but not to us to France, and some of these other nations.
