No rise in me. I am chuckling and laughing as I read and post in this thread. You are a constant source of amusement and entertainment for me on a slow work day,
It means folks who feel threatened by anything "new", even if it is as insignificant as term used in a specific context.
Nobody is threatened by the term. Just like there's no such thing as real and fake Americans. You can head back over to Fox News with those terms.
From Merriam-Webster: : relating to, marked by, or favoring reaction; especially : ultraconservative in politics You're going to have to try harder.
Why so obsessed with a harmless term USian? Surprised! I thought it was a good place to use the term since bigsoccer is such a global multi-cultural site with many from North America and South America other than US. Just trolling?
And in English, the correct term for someone from the United States is American. If the site were in Spanish, we'd use "estadounidense." If it were in German, we'd use "Amerikaner." However, we aren't speaking Spanish or German.
Like most things posted by DCU1996 and others, "USian" is a gimmick inserted just because they want to change the subject away from their hypersensitivity to the mean old 'Muricuns who, gosh darn it, just don't lick the boots of all things soccer. When they get what they asked for, they start throwing around the word "hate" a lot.
Haha ok so once and for all.. and also someone mentioned dictionary.. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/american What you guys mean is #3. It also means #1 and #2. USian totally eliminates any ambiguity, so I prefer the term in bigsoccer where its multicultural and many users from North and South America. Why the obsession and hate??
Hell, "American" is pretty universal when speaking in mixed company just about anywhere in the Eastern Hemisphere. Local variations like ameriti (or however it's transliterated from Arabic) are pretty universally intelligible and everyone knows that they're talking about those from the United States of America. (Never mind that USian would technically work just as well for the Estados Unidos Mexicanos)
but but ... actual dictionary says American is 1 : an American Indian of North America or South America 2 : a native or inhabitant of North America or South America hahaha Now stop trolling.
But but... an actual dictionary doesn't think USian is a word. I typed it in and it asked me if I was searching for "asian."
So.. bigsoccer has policy that I can only use words that are in actual dictionary. Mod, let me know. You didn't know the word, so I kindly introduced the word to you via urban dictionary. It's not an offensive word to anyone, don't really understand the reaction. edit: also a question, do you always use only words in actual dictionary??
