Guys, I've been away for awhile, and I apologize. What a season, eh? Now, as far as the subject: I was reading the Dallas Morning News sports section, with notes from last night's Mavs/Spurs game, and it seems Henry was at the game as a guest of Tony Parker, the Spurs guard from France. The paper made mention of the fact that Thierry couldn't go anywhere in France or England without drawing a crowd, yet he was unnoticed in San Antonio. This means yours truly will be driving to SA tomorrow and attempting to give Henry the attention he deserves. I'm sure he'll be stunned as to why a 6'2", 280 lb guy with a shaved head is asking him for an autograph and photo in the AlamoDome parking lot, but this chance just isn't going to come around again... I was stunned the Morning News even mentioned it, but I'm glad they did.
Wow...Spurs star Parker is French...Mavs have 2 Frenchmen (only 1 active)...Makes sense to me. I better take all my Arsenal gear to the games here in Dallas!
Does anyone else find it funny that Henry is cheering on Sp*rs? Oh wait, I guess it's ok to spell "Spurs" in this context...
I noticed it too, Steve Davis is the guy who wrote that particular blurb, and the likely reason Henry got mentioned is that Davis is the Morning News' regular soccer writer. Pretty neat, all the same. ricv56
A side note here, Marc Stien, the Sr NBA writer for EPSN.com is a HUGE follower of the EPL, too bad he is a Man U fan. I just e-mailed a Dallas sports radio show host (Chuck Cooperstien) and he said Henry was at the Spurs practice today. He also said he had no idea who he was until Marc Stien pointed him out. Hopfully TNT will mention him and show him on TV.
Guess I'll have to settle for one of her girlfriends. I hope someone clues TNT in on the fact they have one of the most famous people in the world in the crowd. They'll likely show some survivor from "Different Strokes" instead.
Coop just said on the radio of all the media at the Spurs practice today only Stien knew who Henry was. Sad...there is a lot of media there from all over
I work in the sports media and saw Henry at the NBA Finals in Philly back in 2001. He was working as a correspondent for Canal+ and they were trying to get him to interview Iverson, but AI had no idea who he was and wouldn't give him the time for an interview. When I saw Henry he was standing all alone on the court before the game so I went up and talked to him for a while. Surprisingly good English. And I bet Steve Nash knows him, too, since Steve's really good friends with Steve McMenamen (sp?) and goes to Europe at the end of every summer to go to a bunch of games. Nash's brother Martin was in the A-League for a while, too, though I don't know if he's still playing these days. I'll email a friend of mine at TNT and see if they'll give Henry some love...
Nash never bends over and picks up the ball during stopages, he always does some fancy soccer kick stuff to pick it up. He also spent last summer at the World Cup.
not too sure if anyone in the states have seen thierry's motorcar commercial... but she is the girl from the advert.. wow.. all i can say is VA VA VOOOOOOOOOOOOM~~~~ hope that isnt too inside phishy
For what it's worth, according to my man at TNT, they're going to do a segment on Nash's love for football tomorrow night at some point during Game Two and show tape of him juggling a basketball, and then if Henry is there they'll at least show him on the air. I explained how to pronounce his name, so hopefully Marv Albert will get it right.
dammmit!! why cant any high profile soccer all stars come to El Paso? Sure, they come to texas, but 6 hours away, and im on a military base, grrrr, that blows!
You really think anyone will pay attention to the guy standing next to her? And without casting aspersions on the many beautiful women in Texas, she will be not be lost in the crowd down there. What would really be nice is if someone at TNT could pull together a few clips of TH. Think how nice it would be if an audience that large could see a few moments of a player that good. Yes, some might groan, but a lot of the viewers are soccer moms and dads (and grandparents) who've only seen their kids play.
