It’s easier to do that in Europe, but MLS has flipped like 20 players for $10 million+ in the last 2 years.
Would be great, but Utrecht unfortunately cannot afford Gio. Sebastian Haller on loan was the highest paid player at Utrecht with them paying 2.5 million (he's on like 9 million at Dortmund) Paxten was the 2nd highest paid player at 850k And that's the issue with the Eredivisie. Feyenoord, Ajax, and PSV are the only ones that could afford him, and the question is are any of them willing to give him a comparable salary to what he had at Dortmund based on his current situation?
And as much as I am rooting for him and as biased as I can be for USMNT players, if I was the Director of Football/Owner, etc, using my best judgement, it would be a "hell no, not on those wages."
PSVs squad is being dismantled. They may have some openings position and money wise. I would love to see Gio at PSV.... especially if the Tillman spot opens up
Why? Earnie Stewart is there. I'm not sure if he is close with Claudio but that wouldn't be a surprise. PSV squad is facing a lot of turnover including probably Malik Tillman. PSV/Earnie have had a lot of USMNT players at the club recently. Wouldn't be terribly shocking to me to see Gio end up there.
A lot of PSV attackers are heavily linked with a move this summer - Tillman [Bayer 04 etc], Bakayoko [a bunch of clubs], Lang [Napoli] and Perisic [Barca]. Almost all of their experienced attackers.
I don't think it's likely anyone in N'lands gives Gio close to what he is reportedly making based on recent form. Either Gio, BVB, or a little of both, have to take a haircut for him to move to most places where he'd have a shot to start.
I don't recall reporting the Reyna's got into it with Earnie but I maybe mistaken. If anything, I would imagine Earnie being at PSV would be a good thing for Gio.
The person was making a joke that Gio would end up at PSV because his parents yelled at Earnie to put their son in the game/on the team Earnie was USSF technical director at the time of the World Cup too
Reyna's team strategy meeting. There to decide who to offer him to in the Eredivisie. Gio says: "PSV are champions and they're selling players this summer. Let's try there." Claudio says: "Gio, Earnie Stewart is technical director there now." Danielle says: "OK let Ajax know that we're willing to accept them." Agent says: "Erm, . . ."
There's no way Earnie Stewart DOESN'T have a bad taste in his mouth from that whole '22 WC Reyna family crap. Despite what some people will say, Gio definitely had a strong hand in all that going down (even if he didn't instruct his parents to be childish turds).
He’s taking a haircut no matter where he goes in Europe. He’s on the last year of a high potential contract. He’s just a player now.
Gio isn't the only former Wunderkid Dortmund is having to sell low on/ Remember Yousoffa Moukouko? Youngest player to ever play for Germany in a World Cup? He's about to go to Copenhagen
Yep. The only decent place he makes that money for 25/26 is BVB. But how badly does he want a real chance to pay. And how badly do they want to not pay him? I got no idea, but all signs point to more BVB.
i was just about to post this. Moukouko was a whole lot of meh during his loan stint to Nice and now he’s being offloaded for €5M. Stats alone he and Gio are comparable. Makes me wonder if Gio will have a similar price tag of €5-7M?
Yeah I'd say the big things for a Gio move are 2 fold 1)How cheap are Dortmund willing to go and 2)How much of a paycut is Gio willing to take. I do not know the answers to those questions but all it takes is one team willing to meet whatever demands. I really hope Gio doesn't gamble and say I'll just move for free in the summer. He'd risk being frozen out at Dortmund, and he'd put his World Cup chances in serious doubt
He once was the next Pulisic but has become the current Freddy Adu. He needs to find a place to play.
I wouldn't go THAT far. I think how the loan to Forest was handled was poor, and I think there needs to be some realization on Gio's end as well that he's gotta make changes. Now IF he isn't willing to swallow his pride and go down a level? Then we can have a bigger discussion, but now it's more about being smart with his career.
let's get more tactical for a minute shall we? is he going to get off the bench against Ulsan? seems like this is the best chance - they certainly will not play him in the knockout stages - unless they are up by 3 or more goals.
You people really are ridiculous with your takes. Dortmund stops playing him and now he's the new Fredy Adu? Not even worth my time to post here. I'll come back when there's actual transfer news.
