Try refreshing the page, I'm not sure what the issue is, but there is an occasional bug that causes phpBB to not render embedded tweets. It was the announcement that Kazuyoshi "King Kazu" Miura is going to suit up for his 40th pro season at age 57.
It was a tweet that said: @MenInBlazers KING KAZU TO CONTINUE PLAYING AT 58 Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura confirms intention to play in 2025 in what will be his 40th season as a professional player. 57-year-old made his debut in 1986—a year before Leo Messi was born
Pro Japanese striker gives it another year at age 58. You read that right..58. Dude has nearly two decades on me. I can barely roll out of bed in the morning because of back, ankle, and achilles wear and tear from soccer. Bravo, fella.
Remember when high school baseball teams would overuse their best pitchers and ruin them? Just like pitch counts there will be minute counts or something like that for young soccer players. There has to be compelling evidence by now that overuse at young ages is causing many injuries.
Soccer analytics is like 40 years behind baseball, but yeah, you'd think this should be coming. It already may be at certain clubs - the way that Arsenal is integrating Ethan Nwaneri versus how they integrated Saka in 2019 is vastly different.
Jamie Vardy was still playing in the regional D6 Northern Premier League until 23 and didn't reach League football until past 25. He's convinced that his later start in pro football enabled his body to develop normally, especially WRT muscles and tendons, which has been the cause of him incurring relatively few injuries after turning pro and, especially, his longevity at top level.
I think there's a lot of truth to this. It sort of seems everyone forgot how this was brought up a lot when Michael Owen flamed out so young with lots of injuries associated with overuse when young. Don't know why it was pushed aside and ignored years later. I will add that especially in the US with so many fake grass fields that kids play on while being over used it's even more stress. My son would play in tournaments where they played five games over 2-3 days. Some were on turf. That's actually kind of insane and sort of bordering on abuse. Ever know anyone who has girls doing gymnastics super young? They always have tons of injuries they fight through.
Yes but this is also the guy who famously drinks a coffee and a few Red Bulls and a piece of bread to prepare on game day. Any way you slice it he's pretty a-typical
From Bild: https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/...s-raetsel-um-gittens-6739e5cd25f5c12fe9b125f7 Good news for BVB and coach Nuri Sahin (36): Central defenders Waldemar Anton (28/hip problems), Julien Duranville (18/thigh problems) and Giovanni Reyna (21/groin strain) have been back in training since Friday. The plan is for them to at least be back in the squad against Freiburg.
I think we may have focused too much on the "mystery injury" part of the update last week and not enough on the part where the report said it could be just days before he returns to team training.
agree with @Pegasus here. I think that competitive minutes/week, month, whatever, are a more important stat than some folks pay attention to. I also bet there are "optimum" minutes/year at various ages and team have to take into account all competitive matches, like national team. It's why I'm never all that worried about a young player not "starting" if they are getting decent minutes for club and country (even if just U's.) Yes, you need some resonable amount of (healthy) minutes, but I bet there is a number where returns diminish quickly. But in Reyna's case... yes, he needs more healthy minutes for sure.
I mean, you're right. But considering the player we are talking about, it's kind of easy to understand why someone might do that.
🎙️ Sahin with a BIG injury update:“Gio Reyna and Julien Duranville are back, Waldemar Anton, Gregor Kobel and Jamie Gittens are also back. Niklas Süle, Kjell Wätjen and Emre Can are out on Saturday.”— Borussia Dortmund (@BlackYellow) November 21, 2024 He is at least available for selection on Saturday!
I would as well. Seems like probably a combination of bad luck and maybe some genetic predisposition to injuries. But there are some on here who are militant about these sorts of issues being related to muscle imbalance, etc., which is of course necessarily related to poor training (i.e., they know more than the staff itself somehow).
JOB was discovered to have a severe muscle imbalance (or was it one leg shorter than the other?I forget.) but it took several injuries for it to be discovered.
Fair. Even the die-hard BvB fans in Germany question that staff. There were lots of constant injuries to many of their top players over recent years, so much so that it being pure coincidence seems unlikely.
I've heard rumors that Pomykal has that problem. I would add that Reyna fits my theory of being so good so young he played way too many minutes and it has manifested itself in a lot of injuries. I'm getting hope from Pulisic who went through some similar stuff but has gotten healthier as he's matured. Crossing fingers Reyna starts getting healthier now as he ages.
I thought maybe it was a structural issue in his hips? Maybe knees but I don’t think so. Created musculature issues.
Gio on the bench so Brandt decides to score his first goal of the season. Great free kick. Dortmund up a man and 3 goals. Good opportunity for Gio to get a few minutes in a low pressure situation.
