Everything about Gio right now seems to be exaggerated. The kid has a lot of talent and just needs to stay healthy. If BVB want to part ways with him, that's fine, I just hope it is to a place that will give him an actual chance. Gio's agent needs to earn his $ right now and get Gio to a good fit to recover his value.
Konrad’s old club. Probably the #2-#5 clubs in Lègue Un. Gio needs to speed up his plays if he goes to here.
That's my question too. I haven't followed Dortmund as closely as I did a few years ago when Reyna was playing a lot for them, but I'd guess this is a strong, if not totally first-choice lineup for them.
It’s surprising. Lets hope he plays well to either earn more consideration at bvb or interest from elsewhere.
Not sure. Looks like a mostly first team starting lineup. In another tweet they did say Brandt was being rested for load management, so I guess that opened the door for Reyna to start. Seems like a positive thing to me - i.e. he's not excluded. Game on Paramount Plus. I just tuned in now, right before the half. ETA: Check that - it's the middle second of four, thirty minute periods.
So is the expectation that Gio will just stay at BVB at this point? It's odd to me that after all the talk of the need for a good move for him, Dortmund being done with him, etc., there have been no reports of potential moves or even interest in him, with less than a month to go in the transfer window. Or maybe I've just missed the reports? I know he has a bad injury history and his development has stalled, but he's only 22 years old. You'd think some team would be interested in seeing what they could get out of him.
They changed managers. I think the coach was more the issue than the club. We’ll see. Things may be happening behind the scenes.
I had thought that too but for a while we were hearing they wanted to get rid of him. I was thinking the new coach who played with him or was an assistant before the last coach would at least give him a look in early training to see where he's at. Maybe that's whats happening and how he plays will determine his fate. That would also be the fair thing for any player.
I thought Gio was on his mandate break until recently? Did he not suit up for any friendlies that he was available for?
I don't think he missed many friendlies after the mandated break. Maybe a couple..? But new coach... back from vacation... Nice to seem him get the start and go almost 80. His stock has plummeted so far since his rash of injuries. I really hope he is able to get his higher-end pace back. He was never a burner but he has been noticeably slower post hammy shred IMO. It took CP quite a while to get even close to his pre-Arsenal-hammy speed. I think a lot of it has to do with confidence.... in the systems/team/coach and more importantly, in their ability to go 100% w/o worrying about injury.
Don’t know if Reyna had extensive Hamstring surgery, but redoing a hamstring cuts a lot of nerves and it takes a lot of retraining to get them firing again. You can lose a lot of explosive movement for a while, even as a Rando.
Looks like a lineup to put through the strainer when evaluating start/sit/trade prospects. Gio never had surgery for his hamstring afaik.
wrt Gio's pace: There's play on the pitch to be accomplished that doesn't have all that much to do with top end speed. Look at Isco with Betis who were struggling a bit to break out before Isco helped them towards the end of the season and put them in Conf league. Gio can play like this for the team that needs it:
He was part of large number of subs at the same time. Both goals scored before he came on. No idea what to make of it.
Gio Reyna posted this on IG 10 minutes ago… seems like he might be staying at Dortmund? I know he’s good enough but I swear if he spends another season playing garbage minutes or not at all, I am going to lose my mind. His camp have handled his trajectory so poorly. #USMNT pic.twitter.com/Z9whQc38Jn— USACFC (@USACFC_) August 10, 2024 Gio trying to make nice with the fans?
