I was just wondering wot you lot thought bout our current financial situation... this seems to be increasingly more troubling with the mass of our own players yet to sign new deals.. with vieira's demands skyrocketing, no new deals yet for bergy, pires, et al.. are we going to lose a major player for next season's campaign? i have a scary feelin that we are going to lose out on paddy or bob this summer... maybe im just falling for all the media hype... curious to know wot ya think~~~
    cheers

Well, it depends on what you mean by "major player." Unless they have a cheaper alternative in mind I can't see Arsenal letting players who perform well go just for wage reasons when they can get rid of players who cost a lot but contribute little like Kanu.

i think that it is more important for us to hold on to vieira than to pires. we are overflowing with quality wingers if you look at the ones coming up. i think that if we hold on to pennant and toure, they could be lethal played on either side in a few years. we also have ljungberg and lauren in the first team regulars. and in my eyes, ljungberg is much more dangerous on the left side than he is playing on the right. i'm not saying that we should get rid of bob to make room for him, but it is just a dilemma that le boss has to consider. the problem would be replacing an influential, mostly defensive player such as vieira in the center. plus, i think gilberto has the potential to become just as good as vieira, giving us one of the best central midfields of all time. but i think he needs a little more time to work out stronger bonds with patrick in the center, as well as rest from all the crap that the brazilian national team has made him go to all season. this i just what i see as important

I agree with jegerpenge, if it came down to being able to keep either Vieira or Pires, I'd keep Vieira. We do have some good cover in the wing position, but Toure?? Really?!?

The wage situation will eventually have to change, the transfer money isn't there any more and I can see the wages going the same way. I don't think the players at the top clubs will be short of a bob or two, the poor loves, but they will eventually have to get real about the amount of money they will be paid. In the meantime, they will be after every penny they can get.

I have been wondering where the financial regulators have been all this time. With so many clubs now public companies, I would have thought that a club like Leeds, spending money it doesn't have and has no way I can see of making it back would have had the directors investigated for some kind of corporate neglect. A censure from the authorities would be the least I'd expect. When this happens, clubs will be forced to run a proper business, then the players will be forced to be realistic about their wage demands.

Toure has the talent, the speed and the strength, but, I'm not sure if he has the brain. AW and the coaching staff can refine what he does, but, only so far if he hasn't got the nouse!

toure is very raw, something that AW can fix. that is if he does have the brains. but he has impressed me in his attacking role. i just hope that we don't make the same mistake and put him in another game as a defensive player. it just doesn't look like he knows what he is doing at this level

i didn't mean this to be a gallic bob or paddy debate so much.. obviously, paddy is the most important lad in the side (henry is my boy but its true).. its just that inflated wages are to be paid out and we need to bring in a few quality players... umm... thats it for now.. im well geared..... lmao
