The guy is 13 and we are already talking about his future club? This benefits nobody. All this hype does is set impossible expectations upon him, and increase the chance that he will not live up to his potential. He has the potential to be a superstar, that is not the same thing as being one already. If we want the best for him and for American soccer, we should not want to read another word about him for another 4 years. Even LeBron James was unknown until the age of 17.

Fortunately, or not, we actually know what club he is going to join if he signs before the age of 18, thanks to the Donovan rule. He'll join DC United, since every player under 18 must join his hometown club.

    Before Donovan, there was Albright.

    Whoa! Wrong example there pal....

If that was the case, Landon would be playing for the Galaxy. His hometown is in southern California, not northern. You do realize how big this state is, right? He's much farther away from home then guys like:

    Convey
Albright (when he first signed at DC)
    Quaranta
    Beasley
    Capano
    Eddie Gavin
    Mike McGee
    Trembley
    Jordan Stone
    Memo Gonzalez

Donovan was "gifted" to the Quakes as an allocation because MLS sold Eddie Lewis and gave us NO ONE for over a year. It was San Jose's "turn" for an allocation. The system actually worked the way it was suppose to.

Even Quake fans thought we'd get screwed out of Donovan's services. Many were resigned to the fact he'd wear a Galaxy kit due to the "hometown rule". Thank God he didn't insist on it.....

And for those that think Adu will ONLY play in DC, what about guys like Eddie Johnson? He's in Texas (hometown Florida, drafted before the teams were contracted). There are also guys like:

    Justin Mapp
    Ricky Lewis
    Kelly Gray
    Nelson Akwari
    Ricardo Clark
    Kyle Beckerman
    DJ Countess

Whom happen to grow up far away from their current clubs.

I think whoever has the first pick will select Adu. He's "tradebait" to United. Look what LA did to Beasley......

the people getting all worked up over a 13 year old freddy have busted their collective nuts and promptly rolled over and fell asleep.

Give 'em a week or so. They'll wake back up and get the mojo working again.

  9. In reference to the hometown club argument....Donovan was already a professional and NOT under the age of 18...he wasnt just getting started. besides, MLS tried to place him as close to home as possible. Eddie Johnson-whats the closest team to Florida? Most likely Dalls. Convey-Philly is close to DC, Tino-Baltimore is down the block from DC. beasley is from Ft Wayne Indiana....just outside (maybe even at the far edge) of the Chicago metro area. Albrights from Philly also. Ben Olsen is from Middletown (15 mins south of Harrisburg) PA so DC is the closest there too

Yeah, but Jamar Beasley (you-know-who's bro) was, at the time, the youngest player MLS signed and he ended up playing for the Revolution, which is definitely not the closest team to Indiana.

My prediction Adu will not declare himself eligible until after a years draft and surprise the metros will win a "special weighted lottery" and get him.
