For a while now, I've seen people label Mourinho a 'moaner'. That somehow, what he says is somehow, off the charts in comparison to his fellow managers. He gets a lot of flak, but more importantly, harsh criticisms in what he says and how he says it. Arsene Wenger generally got the similar treatment, although not recently. (He hasn't had much to say) What interests me is, that SAF seems to get away from all this indepth analysis of what is said. I know I know, he doesn't say what Mourinho says...but I'll explain why I brought SAF up in a bit. In his time, SAF has come up with things that can go right with the supposedly 'moans' of Mourinho and Wenger. Even he has shown awes of arrogance and ego. He's even said things just to intentionally get in people's skin. It's why he's rated as the master of mindgames. So what's the difference? Both Mourinho and Wenger have shown to be on par with SAF's intelligence at the mind-game. There is one advantage SAF has, which I believe, has him looking the better of the three when the (mind)games are played. Language. English is not Mourinho's (or Wenger's) first language. They speak it very well, but SAF has that extra understanding on the sublties of the English language. Because of this, Mourinho and Wenger, end up being much more direct in what they feel or aim to say, whereas SAF can be far more delicate.
That's a very interesting theory about the language barrier. Look what happened to DD the first (and only) time he tried to give an interview in English, but that's for another thread. Besides the language, SAF has the not too subtle advantage of being a knighted servant of the sceptered isle (I assume, the "Sir" in SAF refers to a knighthood). What if (and he did and has) Jose complained that our competition in the CL semifinal was well rested and waiting for us. Or, if he said that the EPL schedulers had been unkind to Chelsea (which he also has said). The English press would ride him like a 5-Cent Ferris Wheel. But when SAF makes the same statements after his team takes a beating, the press men dutifully look on, scribbling, ashen-faced unable to look at the haggard features of Old Trafford's Scottish legend. Blah, blah, blah. Wake up sonny Jim. There's one rule for the Brits, and one rule for the rest. The subtlety of language be d@mned.
Language aside, Mourinho has definitley not been too smart these past couple days. He knows exactly what he is saying. He's been here enough time to understand how things work. So while its an interesting argument, its really not the reason. Fergie hasnt stooped to Mourinhos level (lately) and as the special one said himself recently.....WINNING IS EVERYTHING. Yea, thats my theory, if you dont win, you dont really have any room to make harsh criticisms. I dont care what youve done over the past few years, if you didnt win recently, you cant talk. And that is the sacred code that Mourinho is breaking.
Mourinho is the spit of Louis van Gaal in terms of his behaviour towards the media: capable manager but altogether too full of himself and a very sore loser who is incapable of taking criticism. Both managers' extreme arrogance is considered amusing as long as they're winning. You're allowed to be an arrogant bastard when you're winning but when you're losing it's a different story.
Fortunately the dutch can talk. Because they've won a World Cup. Oh wait nevermind. We're out of the CL. Boo hoo.
The point is, Mourinho says Liverpool only have the CL to play for and he's pilloried. SAF says Milan were well rested as they have nothing else to play for, and the scribes scribble as if listening to a burning bush.
I forgot for a second there how hyper-sensitive the Chelsea board is. All I was saying is that Mourinho is an arrogant bastard but he's hardly the only arrogant bastard in football and there's no point in reasoning the how and why, some people just are that way. If you want to argue that Mourinho is a fluffy bunnies loving compassionate man who helps grannies cross the street and invites press and colleague managers over for coffee and sweet buns at Casa Mourinho every sunday morning, be my guest, but few will believe you. If I was American I wouldn't really feel in a position to slag off the achievements of the Dutch national team, by the way.
Why do you constantly start fights on this board and the react like an innocent person who has done nothing wrong when people call you out. This post epitomizes the way you are on this board. You make a defensive opening, justify you inflammatory post and then end with an insult. I really think you need to look into buying a pet that will give you some attention, I suggest some a Labrador Retriever.
I called Mourinho an arrogant bastard and compared him to Van Gaal. Since when is that news to anyone? Let alone a wind-up? It's your mate Cherrysomething who responded with a completely unnecessary and irrelevant comment about the Dutch national team. Good heavens you people are so oversensitive on this board that everybody on the other forums is talking about it, it's about time one of the supermods sorts you out as far as I'm concerned. Anyway this was my last reaction on this subject, I refuse to be drawn into another pointless discussion again.
Upon reading it again I just realised that I overreacted to your post, I apologise. I still stand by my earlier point that this board is the most sensitive on the entire big soccer forum though.
Oh please do not threathen me with a supermod. Quite frankly, I think you are very lucky to be posting on our board, because you are a troll, plain and simple.
Oh please. God youre terrible. No, i support the team through and through, lose or win. This had nothing to do with that.
I'm curious - if you're so put out with the way this board is, why then do you continually show up? I mean, what draws you here?
It clearly doesn’t work, if anything it puts pressure on to the players. He has to back up his arrogant comments with on the pitch performances, it works in the League, but that’s where it stops. He really made a fool out of himself in the semi final against Liverpool; his new nickname is now ‘the deluded one’. That said you raise a good point, Wenger and Ferguson are of similar ilk, but they aren’t as bad as they used to be, we have Jose to thank for that. He came in and shut Fergie and Wenger up, but has clearly lost the plot with his comments and the more shit he spouts, the more likely he is to believe his own bullshit. I agree with the language barrier, Fergie is more tactical when it comes to handling the media; then again, he’s been in football for thirty odd years.
and then you are surprised and moan on other boards about the treatment you get from posters on this forum. Do you see now why that happens? It's one thing for Chelsea fans to criticise Jose, but it's another thing when a fan of other teams do so on other boards, especially creating new nicknames for the sake of creating more useless discussions.
