He's still years away from contributing. This is the year he learns how to be a professional.

Zelalem is not a #8 or #10 imo, but Rangers and I suspect Wenger play him there.

It was funny in the article they said he tackled well and kept possession well. If only there was a position that needed those attributes...

So an 8 who also does a bit of playmaking?

What do people mean by an 8, anyway? I always understood that to mean Xabi Alonso.

    i always thought Xabi was a 6

to me, Lampard is an 8. A central mid who can get forward and involved in the attack.

I see Zelalem as a guy who can create from deep but isnt going to get involved in the attack.

Saying all of that, he should be doing better at Rangers.

He is too slow to be 8, maybe a 6 or the Pirlo role but no too many teams or AFC can have that luxury.

Otherwise a fluff piece on the academy by Wenger, JFW, and Iwobi. The only thing of note is that Wenger says that the generation age 16 to 20 is going to be great, and it takes a lot of pressure for a manager not to buy big-name expensive players when he has excellent youth prospects

I don't think he should be doing better if the team doesn't suit his style. Look at Coquelin he basically sucked at the previous stops and now is played properly and is doing fairly well. IMHO this is why the whole loan system stinks for the most part unless the philosophies of the mother club/loan club are similar.

I always thought of Zelalem as a deep lying playmaker, do they even do that in Scotland? Cause that level of play is absolute trash.

I kind of agree with what you are saying, but ultimately he chose to goto Rangers.

Yeah agree with you there but he probably just wanted to play. So tough for young players man

Youth cup semi final against Man city today .

Wenger lists six or seven players from the youth set up that will be in the arsenal senior squad eventually as a "guarantee for the future"--names the Jeff, Rheiss Nelson and Chris Willock in specific.

And yet the kids went out of the cup to Citeh 3-4 on aggregate. Hard to judge based on just one 2-legged cup tie, but it's certainly not so obvious that our youth system is better than theirs.

we are leading Newcastle 3-1. the lads are playing very well...Jack, Rosicky and Gnabry are playing...Gnabry scored the third, Crowley scored the first with some good skill...mavudidi looking good, he scored the 2nd after a brilliant through ball from Little mozart.

Regardless of the level he hasn't stood out and won't make it here

I'm worried about crowley too. In fact iwobi may be the only one to make it or Bielik as well. Zelalem and crowley are too weak

Crowley's biggest risk right now, is coming into his man strength and losing his subtlety of movement. Z is going to have a good career, where I don't know.

    Wilshere is back?

Hope to see Tom play a last time before he leaves!

    Right on!

Alas, only perhaps in the final game if we are isolated in 3rd place with no ability to reach 2nd or slip back to 4th. But with the 2 Mancs at our heels, I'm thinking it's unlikely we'll see Super Tom again. :(

They're teenagers. They grow. Iwobi isn't exactly a physical specimen either. Touch, vision, movement off the ball, and tactical awareness are so much more important. They can spend time in the weight room.

They're probably good enough to finish fourth for the next ten years even if they don't improve that much

I've spoken to a lot of rangers fans this year about zelalem and he doesn't stand out. Rangers have a progressive coach trying to play football regardless of the level

I really don't see him being the player u all want him to be. Just another quality school kid that will go on to be an average player at best???
