Why some Barca B players left on loan while others stayed -- Oriol Busquets and Miranda had bargained for the right to leave on loan if not named to first team: https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/clausula-dejo-salir-miranda-oriol-busquets-7618595

Also talks about others who were approached but did not have that clause in their contract, and how Barca B still hopes to advance to Segunda even without the loaned out players (and the temporarily called up forwards).

Huge road win for Barca B, beats first placed, previously undefeated Villarreal B 0-1, goal by Monchu, takes us from 5 points (tied for 10th) to 8 points (tied for 4th at the moment).

Messi like free kick for the goal, goalie never even left his feet, just turned to see it in the net over his shoulder (must've been shielded by his own wall):

Starters on the day (with Perez and Fati down in Granada):
Iñaki Peña; Morer, Araújo, Cuenca, Akieme; Sarsanedas, Monchu, Reis; Hiroki Abe, Abel Ruiz, Kike.

Tons of interest in Japan to see Hiroki Abe (winger we signed this summer) so he got his own 'every touch' video, but those take time so this is from the AE Prat (prior) match:

Collado golazo with nutmeg and backheel

nearly as good is this Puig dribble, nutmeg, and assist to Collado who shoots from distance like a boss after his own dribble (need to click through to see the video but worth it):

And all this in service of Barca B's nice run of two straight wins which takes them to just 1 point outside of the playoffs, after a shaky start. WDLDWW in first 6 matches.

sounds like Victor Valdes is about to be forced out of the club after clashing with Kluivert.
sh*t show behind the scenes continues.

Ansu Fati debuts as sub today for Spanish U21 team. He made squad after teammate Carles Perez got injured, then appeared as a sub for Barca-owned Marc Cucurella (on loan to Getafe).

Especially timely since we will be playing at Levante in November, just 7 years later. I think we will only see 4 La Masia players this time around (all of whom featured 4 years ago): Pique, Alba, Busquets, and Messi in a lineup like this: Barcelona possible starting lineup: Ter Stegen; Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Alba; Arthur, Busquets, De Jong; Griezmann, L Suarez, Messi

I guess the most La Masia we could realistically see would replace Semedo with Roberto; replace Arthur or De Jong with Alena or even Puig; and replace Griezmann or Suarez with Fati or even Perez. That could get us up to 7.

Alternatively, we could rest Alba and play Junior Firpo; rest Busquets and play Vidal (with De Jong sliding to DM), and wind up with only 2 La Masia products.

Very forgettable campaign in this season’s UEFA Youth League as the youngsters finished dead last in their group.

Damn, sold Ruiz and Perez, lost Fati to the first team, now Abe out for season. Barca B has played itself up into the playoff race (4th of 4 teams who make playoffs for a chance to make Segunda) but this cannot help their chances.

Barca B tied at halftime with Valladolid B/Promesas 1-1. Need to win this and two more one-off games to get promoted. Obviously, no Fati, Puig, or Araujo today for Barca B, but they will at least be eligible should Barca B win this one (they each started today for the first team).

Monchu restores Barca B's lead in 57th minute (Konrad De La Fuente gave Barca B the early lead in the 3rd minute, only for another de la Fuente to level for Valladolid Promesas in the 8th minute).

Americans here on bigsoccer know Konrad as US soccer's next big thing, he just turned 19, and agreed to re-sign till 2022, been in La Masia since 2014, born in Miami, plays US U23 team.

    Monchu goal in this tweet:

Konrad gets the insurance goal, 3-1, just need two more wins to make Segunda!

    Tweet shows goal:

EDIT - Valladolid get a late goal to make it 3-2. In stoppage time now.

EDIT II - Game over! Barca advance to round of 8, need to win two more, not three, just be amongst the last two teams standing, no final played. Should have Riqui, Ansu, and Araujo available for next two games as well.

Any chance that Puig and /or Fati get called for those two matches? I guess there’s a worry they may get injured and be out for the CL.

I think they will be available, but we are such a thin squad in the first team that they might not want to risk them I suppose. Also don't want to mess up chemistry of this Barca B team as Ansu and Riqui were training with first team nearly all season, even before re-start and larger game rosters, but I think they will at least be on the bench as subs.

More you watch Barça B clearer/easier it is to recognize that reason pathway to first team has been blocked has less to do with player quality+development during formative years but rather a lack of confidence from 1st team coaches & clarity of club-wide sporting direction.

Inaki Pena save back when it was still just 2-1, very nice Valdes-esque save in the 1v1. (Ask Thierry Henry about those).

FUN FACT Riqui Puig created 3 big chances against Alavés - it was the first time a Barcelona player not named Messi created that many in a single match since April 29 2018, when Luis Suárez created 5 against Deportivo La Coruña. Fantastic performance by the youngster!
