I have been very curious to find out more about Israeli youth teams after we qualified for the second round of the UEFA U-19 Championship. On the squad are two Israelis who play abroad. One is Michael Warwick, and the other is Omer Peretz. They play for Stoke City and RC Strasburg respectively. OK, nix that, they are owned by those clubs.

Now there is talk about Shai Birok being Israel's biggest young star. He has offers from Tottenham Hotspurs, Ajax, and Maccabi Haifa. He is currently playing for Maccabi Haifa's youth team after an agreement was made with Beitar Tuboruk Netanya. The young Ethiopian Israeli is commanding a one million dollar transfer fee.

Now here is where it get's interesting. No player can play for the national team without fulfilling his three years of service in the IDF. Michael Warwick has avoided that because he moved back to England with his family before he could have been drafted. THe question is whether he is eligible for the full national team. Shai Birok has been left off the U-19 squad because he is having trouble getting confirmation to leave the country from the IDF. What do you think of these problems?
