One of the biggest YA trends over the past 2 years has been a marked increase in American ownership of big clubs in Europe. We've gone from just Milan Mandaric (who's now owned Standard Liege, OGC Nice, Portsmouth, and Leicester) to having a whole group of owners in many different leagues. Right now we've got American owners at Man United, Aston Villa, Derby, Monaco, Liverpool, etc. etc. And the list keeps growing. This trend can only be benificial for US soccer.

There's the added debate of why these guys don't invest in US-based soccer. The answer of course is right now there aren't giant heaps of money to be made by owning an MLS team. Mandaric, of course, owned the San Jose Earthquakes back in the day, but hasn't invested in American soccer in decades. Some day MLS will "turn the corner" and these big money guys will start lining up to own an MLS team. They'll vote to do away with the salary cap, and viola the league will really take off. Because the potential is there............

it has not made on iota of difference to US Soccer. Why would this be good for us, except to take potential BIG investors away from the US game?

I don't think any of the guys investing abroad were ever going to invest in MLS at this point. They may, however, look to invest in it later if they have a positive experience while owning a foreign club.

I think you're right. de Brontin is the Chairman.

Actually that's also an interesting topic. There are Americans starting to get involved in that side of the business as well. Bruce Buck at Chelsea is also another high-profile example.

Newcastle has downplayed reports that a £420million price tag has been placed on the club. What the true asking price is probably lies somewhere in between the initial price and this price I bet. Nonetheless, despite being under achievers year in and year out, Newcastle has a huge fan following and probably makes a hefty profit. It's easy to see how an American company, or any company for that matter, would be interested.

According to this link, Newcastle's 05/06 revenue was 124.3 million euros. That's right behind the big four. I don't know how much debt the club have, though.

Here's a more recent Forbes article outlining Newcastle's finances.

[ Quote- Right now we've got American owners at Man United, Aston Villa, Derby, Monaco, Liverpool, etc. etc. And the list keeps growing. This trend can only be benificial for US soccer.]

I dont see how this will ever help us. Do you expect the owners will demand American players be signed to the club and never cut? Or American Mangers be Hired?

Wont happen, these investors love sports and they love money, they are doing this because of the amount of return they will get after they have had thier fun.

Lerhner at Villa is a bit different, he is a homeboy, he just seems to like having a team or two and trying to compete, but will not be rocking the boat or selling anytime soon.

But the Derby Guys and the rest of this group seem to be typical high rolling Business first guys. Their pressed trousers and all.

We are talking aboout High Profile, Big Profit English Football, but soon other Clubs outside England will be bought by some who Just want to one up theses guys.

English Football is where the Money is, and the English People are paying out the Nose for this. Its a Market, with Options,Yields and returns.

What we have here is MyEgo Fc- Me First United- Real Cash Fc-!

Money-Profile-Sports thats it no MLS no USA...Money

Given the dollar's decline and more TV money, the English clubs are now making $30M-$60M more, with ManU, Chelsea and Arsenal going over $400M mark.

Newcastle (and Tottenham) should be over $200M.

West Ham and Everton at ~ $150M.
