My friends have pointed out to me (and I agree with them) that I have an absurd fascination with pointing out the worst lines in otherwise good movies. I'm not talking about bad movies with lots of bad lines, I'm talking about good movies with one (or, ya know, maybe two) lines that just make you go, "Why the hell did they leave that in the script?"

For example, I've seen Blues Brothers plenty of times, and every time I hear Bob (of Bob's Country Bunker) say, "You're the Good Old Boys?!", I want to rip my ears off.

The other one that sticks out in my mind is a line from With Honors, where Joe Pesci and Brendan Fraser's characters are talking and walking along the Charles River and all of a sudden, out of a blue, Pesci goes, "Let's sit down. There's a bench!" It's just so out of place and forced, and the movie could totally do without it.

So, my question to you is, what individual lines from otherwise good (or at least decent) movies can you pick out and say, without question, "That is the WORST line in that movie!"?

Worst line in about a dozen movies:

"I love this job." Or the variation, "I love this town."

I'll have to think a bit more to come up with some bad lines in specific movies.

Jackson's otherwise excellent Fellowship of the Ring:
"Nobody tosses a dwarf!" A stupid little winky-wink line that's totally out of character with the rest of the film.

I really disagree with you about the movie as a whole, but as long as you agree with me enough to say that one line ("Nobody tosses, etc") was noticeably terribler than the rest, I'll refrain from flaming. If not, you're a stupid rat xxxxxxx.

Good call on "Nobody tosses a dwarf!"... I loved that movie, but the line didn't really fit the mood.

    Any other suggestions?

    this movie was ok...

    Gladiator:

"He vexes me, I'm completely vexed."

Me and my buddies were the only ones in the theatre laughing when we heard this line. So it could have been funny on purpose, I'm just not sure.

Other than the lines spoken by Edward Fox, every line in Ghandi was pretty bad...

No matter what movie it is, when I hear the line "Lets get outa here" I get distracted because I was told once that it was the most common line used in all movies. It has many applications: action thrillers, romantic comedies, buddy movies, you name it. I swear, its in every other movie I see.

There's a lame joke about cigars and capitalist vs. communist oppression in the otherwise perfectly scripted movie "Dr. Strangelove". Without a doubt, the worst part of the masterpiece.

If you're looking for movie filled hillariously bad lines look no further than "The Ten Commandments". Its a riot.

As someone who's in advertising, I couldn't help but laugh at Keanu's attempt to "portray" an art director in "Sweet November", quite possibly one of the worst movies I had the displeasure of watching.

"I'm two Clios ahead in the game!" :D

There's a line in X-Men that is universally recognized as the worst in the entire movie. Halle Barre as Storm as she zaps Toad with a lightning bolt:

"Do you know what happens when a toad is struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else!"

Fantastic. I loved that her African accent came and went throughout the film.

I thought the 'Let us hunt some *orc*!' line by Strider at the end of the movie was pretty damn bad actually. To be honest, I didn't like his accent in that movie at all, it was like half American accent mixed with a hint of Kevin Coster-esque Robin Hood. No good.

And I *liked* the dwarf tossing line. :p

The generic line that I hate is the following, or some variation of it:

"What is this? Some kind of sick game?"

Has anyone ever actually said that in real life? No. But it's in a ton of films. If that line or some variant is in a trailer, i won't watch the film. I chose not to watch Fight Club mainly on that basis. Seriously.

As for Lord of the Rings" and its script .... How bout those Redskins!!!!!!!

How about Sean Connery's line, "You're the man now, dawg!", in "Finding Forrester"?

Yeah, but then, all of Keanu's lines, in all of his movies, are bad. Is this one worse than the rest? (I've never seen "Sweet November", so maybe it is...)

And is it the line or the delivery that's bad?

This one is kind of a thread-bender, in that it's not really the worst line in the movie, I just think it's had the worst after-movie life.
Jack Nicholson: "You can't handle the truth!" In that piece-o'-crap movie with Tom Cruise and Dummy Moore. This line gets quoted constantly and is always mis-applied. In the film, it was supposed signify the Nicholson character's megalomania--here's a guy stationed in a backwater post in Cuba imagining he's the sole possessor of the truth and the last bastion of the American way and is therefore entitled to do as he pleases, including killing one of his own soldiers.

Nowadays it gets used by assorted doofi, such as Jesse Ventura, who think it means exactly what the character thought it meant: they know better than anybody else and are entitled to act accordingly.
