I'm on your side. My wife thinks the same way, and I have to keep convincing her that I really don't play that much (especially compared to what I did when I was in college / single).
i just checked their website.... get off gameing online by spending your time posting in their fourm instead
fine. I'll quit. just as soon as she finds me some real live space zombies that I can shoot with a sniper rifle.
I'm tempted to join a GA forum just to bitchslap those turds for thinking they have a real problem. Grow up with a parent that suffers from dependancy problems and then talk to me about addictions.
I dunno, I'm sure there are people who face similar adverse affects on their life due to an addiction to gaming as someone who is addicted to smack or alcohol. They just wouldn't have all the physical ailments...
seriously, though -- you play games too much and it starts screwing with you. be honest: who here hasn't played GTA or one of its ilk so much that when they went driving the next day they didn't want to start crashing into things or running over people? who here hasn't played some WWII game and started looking for snipers on rooftops or which doorways would give you the best cover? I know I ain't the only one.
actually, i did notice that driving my car the other day... i kept expecting to see a target as i looked around... bad news... seriously...
I have several guildies (WOW, the crack of the gaming world) quit due to wife pressure.. Or simply due to the fact they feel like they have lost control on their ability to stay logged off. Or they have played so much, they have burnt out, yet they return 3 months later.. I look at it as harmless, cheap entertainment. But seriously, if it starts affecting your job or relationships with family, quit.. And if you cant be objective about if it has, but are being told it is, then quit... Or do the smart thing and get her into a game you can both enjoy!!!! I dont know what game you play, but MMO's are great, and alot of families and normal, attractive, couples play them together. As far as an addiction, I was drinking way too much for a while, so i needed something to keep me busy at night. WOW was perfect, as it kept me out of the bars, and my mind busy, and occupied from temptations. Now maybe I do play too much, or have replaced one addiction with another, who knows. I dont care. But I would rather be addicted to a game, than a substance. so for me, its definlty better than where i was.
No, but I pie slice into rooms, and keep an eye out for choke points and potential sniper nests. Actually, last night I found myself exhibiting some of the tell-tale signs while playing CoD4 last night. I kept saying to myself "one more game" every time I unlocked a new feature. "Only 8 more kills until I unlock the red dot sight for the G36c." "Now that I got the RDS, I should see how it plays!" "Ooh, I'm only 300 points from being promoted to Brigadier General." "One more airstrike kill and I complete a Challenge. I can get it this next game." "Oh, my promotion unlocked the Desert Eagle handgun! I should try that out (and try to get the first 'Last Stand' Challenge completed)." I strung that out into an extra 90 minutes of playing past when I should have gone to bed. I actually quit out to the main lobby several times, and couldn't resist the urge to click on "Find Match" after tweaking my custom class definitions.
We're on vacation in Hawaii staying with friends of ours. They have Guitar Rock Hero. The kids are hooked....and so am I. But the wife wants to get Rock Band so the whole family can play. Now don't think all we've done is play games. That's our downtime. Hawaii, for lack of a better term, might be one of the greatest places on Earth. I'm gonna hate leaving on Friday. So to help with the disappointment of going back to Michigan, I picked up Elder Scrolls III: The Game of the Year Addition. That should keep me busy for a while.
Score! BTW, this was three straight nights of knowingly staying up way later than I should have playing CoD4. The problem is that a few BigSoccer folks hop on on Friday and Saturday nights about the time I should be switching off inviting me to play, and while they're all a bit better than I (I think), it's too much fun to say no.
Totally off topic, but a wise man once said that when you are disappointed or depressed to return home from a vacation, you need to move. On topic, I haven't played a console game in ages, and I really only play WWSM08 and sim city on the computer. Been thinking about getting a 360 again, however...
Actually, we haven't told the family, but we've been thinking of ditching Michigan for a while. Our friends in Hawaii have already said they'd help us transition if we were serious about moving there. We've already lived on a island for three years and despite my job there and the lack of money, we had a really good time. We're definitely considering it.
