OK, I was just looking for a place to post/hear some thoughts regarding web apps, podcasts, vidcasts, social networks, torrenting clients/sites, and whatever else these crazy tubes have to offer. Anyone here try out the Yahoo Live? I gave it a quick run the other day, but the frame rate/lag was terrible. That may be because I was doing it over a wireless network though, so if I were trying to do it well I might just plug in for the stream. Of course, it could also just be that their service hasn't worked out the kinks, as I've been hearing that users are having a lot of audio problems too. I think it could be useful for live streams to my non-Mac using friends. Otherwise, I'd probably just use iChat.
Isn't Microsoft pouncing on Yahoo right now, or did that blow over? I just use iChat as I lost/forgot my Messenger acct a long time ago. Still on the MySpace, I have a Facebook but haven't figure out how to use it yet to the point that my friends get mad when I don't add them. Yahoo is the best for Fantasy Sports, IMHO. I have my MacBook and have installed neither Boot Camp for Windows or Firefox for web browsing. I guess I'm lazy. Might as well post this here, from an application y'all might have heard of called YouTube. Somebody shot this on the day of the Super Bowl Ticker Tape Parade.
I think the Micro-hoo takeover is happening, it's just going to take a little longer than some thought. I don't blame you for not running boot camp. I don't want those PC viruses anywhere near my Mac. Also, I just installed Firefox in the last week. The newest version of Safari runs so well, I've never needed to have it. Unfortunately, I ran into a site the other day that pretty much only worked well in FF. Now... what is this Youtube you speak of?
I have Parallels going on mine, but I honestly never use it except to stream games every now and then when I'm at work. I always have that rather "unprotected" feeling whenever I do use it. EDIT: I actually do use it for the Netflix instant viewing option and it works really well. I've actually been pleasantly surprised with iWeb. Granted you're not going to make huge, professional sites with it, but it's especially handy for what my wife and I need. I'm sure I could learn Dreamweaver just fine, but I don't have the time. I'm using it with my own host and it's still pretty functional. The RSS feeds and blog comments don't work unless you're hosting the site through your .Mac account, but who cares. If any of you feel like doing some QA or whatever, it's at www.avenueplayer.com. I finally took the plunge and got an iPhone this past weekend. It's pretty excellent. I had a big auction end while I had an indoor game yesterday and used it to invoice the winners while drinking in the pub after the game.
Good point about Netflix. They need to get it working on OS X ASAP. I love the iPhone. Since Macworld, the thing has become WAY more useful. I use Google reader pretty extensively, so the fact that it now runs perfectly through my phone (and with a nice looking interface) is a huge deal for me. Also, the ability to create new buttons for web apps really changes the way I think about using them on the phone. It makes them feel a little more legit, if you know what I mean. It's not full on native apps, but a step in the right direction. Now it just needs flash support. I have a handful of Hulu invites (10 to be exact), so if anyone wants one, let me know. The quality, as well as the selection of shows is pretty decent. I watched the entire Firefly series on it, becoming a fan, then rueing the fact that my not watching it when it actually aired probably contributed to it's being cancelled after one season.
I was really psyched when I heard about Hulu, and I managed to get an invite... but unfortunately it won't let me watch the shows, because I'm not in the US
I'm sure the much talked about SDK will be coming by the end of the month. That should definitely up the ante a bit.
PM me your email address. I played with the earlier versions of the emulator, but I restored my phone before the Macworld update. Since they're going to be releasing that SDK (hopefully) soon, I don't think I'm going to hack it again. I want to hack my PSP to run emulators on it, but that seems a tad more tedious. I'll get around to it sooner or later.
Super Nintendo emulator, you say? Dr. Know, lemme know if you've heard anything about Mario Kart on it. I have yet to see an emulator that can handle that game or other graphic intensive games like it (such as Star Fox) properly. I don't got much else to add besides I dropped my MacBook on the floor for the first time the other day. It survived its maiden voyage perfectly.
i'm still too "fraidy cat" to mess with my iphone...I've stuck with the updates they've given me and have stayed away from the jailbreaking. looking forward to 1.1.4 and the new SDK released in 10 days. i hope the legit apps are cool.
Yeah check out some videos on youtube. There's a Super Nintendo emulator for the iPhone. I hear that the only problem is that it uses up the battery pretty fast.
Looks pretty cool, although I'm not ready to risk bricking my phone. Speaking of, has anyone seen this? Pretty awesome.
This isn't entirely on topic, but has anyone seen this? Truly hilarious. Might as well ask here... anyone know yet of any Mac programs or Mac-friendly sites to watch live footy? Last time I looked around there weren't any.
This subject is WAAAAAY over my expertise, but on Facebook someone mentioned something called '"crossover" and offered this link from Apple's discussion board. And here's the link to the thread on Facebook regarding the topic of streams via Mac 9. (must be registered/logged in to view thread)
Ironically, I'm watching Spain-Italy on Sopcast via XP-Parallels on my Macbook. I'll definitely take a look at Crossover. Good spot Unclesox.
Nice find USox. On a (very) slightly related topic, I can't recommend 1Password enough to fellow Mac users. I got it earlier this year in the Macheist bundle and I love it. I tend to alternate between 3 or 4 screen names and passwords when I have to create an account for something(Greddy is actually taken on a surprising number of sites), only to forget which combination I used on which site. This program is a life saver.
Usox, I'm about at the point where I'm going to get a "You must not even attempt to rep Usox for a fortnight before you work back up to the regular 'You cannot rep this poster' message." REALLY nice find. Greddy, I've finally worked myself to just three passwords with varying number/letter combos. I think most websites I go to are smart enough now to give me 9 or so attempts to find it. But next time I find myself tangled, that looks like a good app. Couple apps I've recently dl'ed: - TabView, so I can use my MacBook to at least view all the PowerTabs I dl'ed on my PC years ago and get all guitar geeked out on. Can't edit tabs on it, however, but you can loop a section and concentrate on it, like I've ben doing with the guitar solo from Bohemian Rhapsody. - Medialink, so I can stream media from my MacBook to my PS3, and basically watch stuff on my big TV. Booyakasha!
You should check out www.rojadirecta.com on matchday, there are some streams there that don't need p2p software. They're hosted by a site called: www.justin.tv
Still can't get those to work at my office. I think I'll just put TVUPlayer on my work PC and see if anyone complains. On an unrelated note, anyone check out muxtape?
That site is awesome. We should make all make "muxtapes", and share them. It would be cool to see what kind of music is in everyone's computer.
I really like Muxtape. I signed up a couple weeks ago, but haven't put my mix (or Mux?) up yet. I've just been listening to everyone else's. I'll let you know when I post one.
I got skerred cuz I saw a "mutante" on there, the first few songs looked like it could be from my songs and I thought, is last.fm doing this for me or something!?!?! If everyone else is doing it, I'll do it too. Although I'll have to come up with another screenname.
