    It is?

Seriously though, it could be a good discussion. I just feel that people have been unfairly influenced towards Vieira because he is such a recent player and many posters won't have seen his predecessors. Plus "legend" is another tag that is throw around far too much.

    Rubbish!

Many would argue that he wasn't even the best player in his position in the Premiership. Take the Arsenal bias off and let's have a mature discussion on the subject. If you don't wish to do so, then don't view the thread. My post was only a continuation of the first post in the thread!

You rushed me, hence Speed's inclusion. However, my sensible posts in this thread still stand and I await a good discussion from mature Arsenal fans.

Both would easily be included in the top 3 or 5 central midfielders in EPL history, as would Vieira. However, comparing him to EPL players is irrelevant. This thread is about his place in the history of Arsenal.

Utter rubbish!!! Speed!! Give me a break Teso, even you can do better than that. Come on. When Vieira played with Petit they were the best partnership in the world. Vieira is one of the worlds best, and is certainly the best performing central midfielder (games played v games won) in the Premiership in modern times. I will agree Keane is probably second, but Speed!!! What the hell has he ever done!! :p

In the last 40 years the only Arsenal center midfielder that comes close is George Graham. But GG only won 2 major trophies, wore red and white for 2 1/2 years fewer than paddy and gets docked points for playing for both Chelsea and Man U. Post playing career Bonus points for 88/89, and another point docking for managing spurs.

Any living arsenal fan that dosen't have Patrick Vieira in there all time XI is nuts.

Sorry rick, but there is no way that Vieira has been better than Keane over

    a) his stay with the club vs. Keane's stay with Man United.

    b) his best years vs. Keane's best years.

It's not as if Vieira has been the clear-cut better over the last 5-6 years, either... and certainly not in head-to-head confrontation (;)).

    Speed?! Pfft.

Anyhoo, nobody seems to talk about the fact that he scored some special or really important/significant goals.

Special - vs 'Pool at Anfield '04/ Everton at Highbury '05/ Newcastle '98 (I think)

Significant- vs Scum at Scumsville '04/ vs Leicester at Highbury '04/ PK against ManU '05

One last one for old times sake.

If you want to be pedantic, Vieira won a World Cup ;)

Then again, so did Kleberson

Re: Patrick Vieira and his time at Arsenal/Where does he rank?

He did yeah, but consider who he had around him vs. who Keane did. And also consider what Keane did in terms of getting Ireland to the 02 World Cup (where his performances were the best I have ever seen anybody give us) ahead of Holland. I'll avoid a rant about Saipan, but things would have been a lot different in the WC had Keane been there.

Meanwhile, Keane has won the Champion's League. And if anybody wants to mention his being suspended for the final, it'll be kind of a mute point due to his performance in the semi's agaisnt Juve after he KNEW he could not play even if we made it through. That's a prime example of why he is the greatest captain (along with Maldini) of his generation.

As for Kleberson... just you wait until he gets a game for us, once he recovers from those hangnails (nah, I just want him sold).

My least favorite one was the one he got against United at Old Trafford in 03.....because he didn't get his money's worth.

Bichos, I wont exactly call that post a troll. A troll usually makes no sense and just winds up the opposition. I was just showing one of the many colorfull sides of Vieira, besides, he gave as much as he got and you cant say that the handshake at the end wasn't hilarious so kindly pull your thumb out of your butt. And um, how is this a 'debate'? This is a thread dedicated to an Arsenal legend, not an argument..shows how much you know.

As for the guy who negative repped me quote, "f'off troll. you didn't even know Gilberto was dmid." Gilberto isnt even a defensive midfielder, he's an all round midfielder, shows how much you know about your own club eh? How about you cut off Football Manager and go learn about your own club, Jackass.

I'm no troll, I know most of the Arsenal fans here(after all, they visit our forums too) so I'm cool with them and we're only exchanging harmless 'punches on the shoulder' if you will, no need to take everything so serious.

Explain what is all round about Gilberto's game. His passing, his vision, his shooting ability? :D

Do not equate Arsenal's comparative success over those years as a negative against Vieira.

Keane has for the most part played with better players. That is a fact. He has never had to line-up with the likes of Gilles Grimandi over the course of a season.

Lest we forget also that Arsenal have a better head-to-head record against United since the Wenger era began.

Vieira is the better player, whereas Keane is the greater leader.

PS: Why do people post oversized pics? it makes the threads impossible to read.
