Apples and Oranges. Business and National Pride. Klinsmann is a quack, with regards to his logic; he has put himself behind an 8 ball at every turn and with such confidence. It scares me as to what/whom he really has in his back pocket...other than a contract extension.
I agree Wilbon is a punk and he dislikes soccer by the way. He shouldnt have said that. I dislike Piers Morgan and Klinsmann about the same but they both have privileges to be in America. Wilbon over the top as usual, hes insecure about the NBAs downward spiral.
My take on Besler is that he isn't necessarily the guy who grew up soaking up all the games on TV he could and learning the history of the game. He just happened to be really good at soccer and decided to play it. That isn't to say he's dumb or anything, just not a "student of the game" like some of the other guys (Bradley). Another guy like this is Bobby Boswell, who can tell you way more about the history of hockey and probably what's going on in the NHL than he can soccer/MLS. Nothing wrong with that, but it's a very old school concept and something we saw a lot of in the 90s/early 2000s..and not so much now, especially with NT level guys. I think it is a product of geography as well, even if KC's whole landscape is obviously very different now, very trendy, young and vibrant. An example of this theory: I just watched Besler struggle to name the 8 winners of the WC (he left England out and struggled to name Argentina and even Spain). A guy like Bradley would have rattled all 8 off in like 10 seconds. It doesn't mean anything, but I think it kind of testifies to Besler's lax-leaning attitude of it all and shouldn't be misconstrued for him not caring.
http://www.mlssoccer.com/video/2014...-trivia#ooid=1vOTM2bjq4o_jqhzmzmb3YYjX8jwC1fs He eventually names 7 of the 8, but about halfway through I was thinking, "Holy shit, this guy has no idea." Just seems strange to me, but I'm a huge soccer geek and know all sorts of random facts that are useless, on top of not being half the player Besler is..so it doesn't matter. Edit: Also, it's not like MLS even got the dates of the winners right..which is a little sad. Apparently Brazil and Germany BOTH won the '94 WC:
In stark contrast, in 30 seconds Drew Moor was able to name all but I think one or two of the former MLS players who went on to become MLS head coaches...

I thought he missed answering the final question, "why we haven't we done better when we got over 300 million people" he should have said "because unlike other countries, here in America we have to fight with other major sports for top talent".
Some of this is pretty funny, they are awful. #USMNT Time at @TPCSawgrass! Watch: https://t.co/7jMdFMe364 #OneNationOneTeam— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) June 7, 2014
I don't know if this fits here, but here's @nutmegradio's take on US fans. http://soccer.fusion.net/2014/06/07/what-kind-of-usmnt-fan-are-you/
US Soccer just uploaded their "One Nation. One Team. 23 Stories" special on YouTube. Rather than link all 23, I'll link the first one and y'all can navigate to the rest. Aron Johannsson's t-shirt is of the highest quality.
Random thing I noticed watching all those videos, since they are in alphabetical order: We are really heavily weighted on last names in the first part of the alphabet, yet somehow we end with Wondolowski, Yedlin, and Zusi.
These videos are awesome. Fantastic job by US Soccer and their media arm. I guess this is where the PR guys who should have been shadowing JK have been. Time well spent.
They are off the plane now. Cannot believe the world cup is in a few days. Brazil croatia. gonna be crazy.
