Which, I’m sure, won’t be grounds for Scalia to recuse himself. He’ll act like just because his son isn’t the one talking in front of SCOTUS he doesn’t need to recuse.

Alito wishes he was as smart as the FedSoc fanboys think Scalia was.

It's bonkers to me that Alito is on such a high court - his opinion writing is .... something

Now I understand why the podcast scrutiny calls on Trollito. Like the justifications he uses in the cases he uses are just always so wild and I'm not even a legal person, I just listen to them

While this sounds bad…we should probably hold off on worrying about it until Judge ********whit from the federal district in Bumble******** has a chance to weigh in.

Unfortunate. This great Korean deli I bought sandwiches from was getting their meats from there. At first they were working with someone else, and they had pastrami. Then that source dried up and they went with Boar's Head. The first supplier was better. They didn't sell enough of the new pastrami to keep it in stock, so I went to roast beef. They've been at the same location for decades, and have built up such a rapport with customers that their business hours are from 8-3, M-F. I don't know of any other sandwich shop that can do this.

Back when I smoked tobacco, I bought four sandwiches and asked to buy a couple packs of cigarettes. The elderly lady behind the counter looked at me sternly.

    "Smoke-a too much!"
    "o_O... Ma'am?"
    "Smoke-a too much!"
"Uhh..yes, ma'am. You gonna take my money?"
    <smiling> "This time"

I think I've told y'all about that one before

Roberts has the kind of sanctimoniousness that only comes from being educated in Catholic school.

He makes that earnest looking aww shucks face when I see him in public. But we know he's a Heritage apparatchik through & through like the rest of the Cons on the SC.

Funny that I saw Ketanji Brown-Jackson making the PR rounds on TV a few weeks ago. Very inspiring back story and a thoughtful jurist by all accounts. Must suck fighting against the Wingnuttiness of this majority tho.

I mention Roberts specifically because that could be my mom at times. And she too went to Catholic school. There’s a certain arrogance/stubbornness to it that’s incredibly hard to deal with. Biden and Pelosi somewhat have it too.

Alito and the rest though, are the kind of Catholics that drove my family away from the Church. Both sides of my family had beefs with the church for their reasons or another.

Barring Sotomayor that is. But Sotomayor is like most American Catholics. Born into it, only goes for certain occasions. And that’s pretty much my family. I think the last time I went was for my little cousin’s first Communion.

Related note, imagine my disbelief when JD Vance converted. Like dude,

I heard her speak last week at an event in San Francisco. She’s a great speaker, down to earth and is indeed very inspiring. The contrast to Thomas is extremely stark.

Probably completely random, but are there any Justice’s spouses who are POCs? Because I don’t think Sotomayor is married and both Thomas and KBJ are married to white people.

IIRC, Thurgood Marshall's wife was born in Hawai'i and was of South Pacific ancestry. Don't have time to check right now, alas.

If I'm not mistaken, no justice has ever been married to someone whose ancestors were slaves in the American South. Of course, a few of the justices themselves have had such ancestors (Marshall, Thomas, and Jackson).

Don't believe so. Katanji is married to a white dude I believe she met in college

Saw a clip of a black woman comedian who said "my friends tell me I should date a white guy. But I don't think I'm ready yet" Asks a white guy sitting by the stage "what's your name?"

    White guy "Steve"

She screams at hin "Well WTF is YOUR problem Steve?!"
"See the shock on his face? White guys aren't ready for that. I told ya" :D

If we somehow survive this election as a republic and Harris wins…we keep the senate…and take the house. The two most important changes in our government will be replacing Garland with….pretty much anyone…and replacing Durban as chair of the senate judiciary committee whitehouse
