Re: What is Up with the Urawa Reds this Year? So that means a club like Lyon isn't that good either? Cause if u look prior to the last 5 years, they were a small club with no success whatsoever. Urawa's "reign" as a top 3 club has lasted almost just as long, and although they've only won once, they' ve been up there for the last seasons. And what about Chelsea, who also rose to success only in recent years? Are they not "good" club either? I feel Urawa has turned out a public scapegoat, and whatever they do, win or lose, most people turns against them just because they are the biggest club who gets most media-attention. Personally I like Urawa, and i regard them as my favorite J1 team now that Cerezo are in J2.
Re: What is Up with the Urawa Reds this Year? The point the previous poster was making was that Urawa are far closer to their historical average position when near the foot of the table than when in the top three. In the grand scheme of the J. League, Urawa are one of the better supported teams (again though, they have been beaten numerous times on that score too) but they have only very recently started winning things. That's not to say they're not a good team - they certainly are and they're one of the best! Their current collapse is surprising, but ultimately, if Urawa were to finish mid-table, it would pretty much be their average position over the last ten years. They don't have nearly the pedigree of a team like Kashima, for example.
Re: What is Up with the Urawa Reds this Year? It will be interesting to see when they win their first game.
Re: What is Up with the Urawa Reds this Year? I'm hoping it'll be a week Saturday against Jubilo! That's three days after they have to visit Nihondaira, where their bad run will continue with a 3-0 loss to S-Pulse.
Re: What is Up with the Urawa Reds this Year? aahh, maybe you can explain it to the next sock he creates.

Re: What is Up with the Urawa Reds this Year? Back to topic (Urawa Reds and their poor shape), ladies and gentlemen...
Re: What is Up with the Urawa Reds this Year? Nothing's wrong with the Diamonds, they're back on track now and expect them to sweep the floor with their opponents from now on
Re: What is Up with the Urawa Reds this Year? We'll see on Wednesday about that! Do feel free to crush Jubilo on Saturday though! I didn't see Urawa's game today, but the match stats suggest their first three points were never in doubt. Must have been a relief for all concerned!
Urawa Reds' Fans I saw on another forum about J-league some pictures of the offensive banners the Reds' fans exposed in the game against FC Tokyo yesterday. Such behavior is more the norm than an exception for the Red Army, as we know well by now. And I am not surprised that when anybody (Gamba) wins on their pitch want to celebrate in style. I'd like anyone who knows to explain to me why do Reds Fans need to be such jerks, really... How sad.
Re: Urawa Reds' Fans Let's be honest, Reds getting turned over is hardly a rare occurrence this year (or other years, come to that).
Re: Urawa Reds' Fans But surely one worth celebrating... Against Sanga, they scored against us (four goals...) only after Abe put on that shameful pantomime to have Tahara sent off. Before that, we had played two games and a half, and we were always tied...
Re: Urawa Reds' Fans To be honest, I'm not actually that approving of actions like this either. But I hope you're much better than just lumping all Reds fans as being "jerks". I happen to see myself as a level-headed one. And why not bring up Gamba's banner of support for Sepahan last year, which was an equally cheeky jibe at us? Or Kashima's attempt (albeit failed) at "F*** you Reds"?
Re: Urawa Reds' Fans lol I guess J-league are going through the process of brute football culture. As you said, Gamba supporting Sepahan, I guess its getting really territorial now.
Re: Urawa Reds' Fans There are some normal ones but on the whole they tend to be the stereotypical bandwagon jumpers that whine and moan when they don't win. Needless to say I hope we stuff them when we play them next month!
Here, if you want, but please let's always remember that there are quite a few very civilized Reds fans among us, and we should respect them and their opinions...
Re: Urawa Reds Controversy Thread OK, lets give Urawa fans the benefit of the doubt and assume their constant booing of the opposing team is only to help give their team any advantage they can. But why do they turn on their own team so easily? Do they think they are world beaters and are terribly under-performing any time they lose? Do Urawa fans realize there is nothing special about their team?
Re: Urawa Reds Controversy Thread I have a question for Reds fans too. Tsuboi has been making a fuss about his salary being too low before the season start, once leaving the clubs office infuriated and telling journalists that the offered he received was "a joke." He allegedly got what he wanted and stayed, in the end... Now, how do you judge his season, so far? Is he still one of Japan's best defenders? Will he stay at Urawa Reds next season?
Re: Urawa Reds Controversy Thread Not a Reds homer but would like to answer: Now, how do you judge his season, so far? average Is he still one of Japan's best defenders? clearly not Will he stay at Urawa Reds next season?[ hopefully not
Re: Urawa Reds Controversy Thread These are actually my answers, too, though I may be a little unsure on the last. He's better, these days, as a substitute defender, to fill in when others aren't available. I wouldn't say he should be a regular starter, by any means. Unless he finds his pre-World Cup form, I can't see my opinion changing too much. He's not a very threatening figure, in the back line. I've said it before, but Urawa really does need another defender like Nene. I wouldn't be surprised if they went for a new foreign player to fill that position, just like they were looking to do, last year.
Re: Urawa Reds Controversy Thread Re: Tsuboi Now, how do you judge his season, so far? average at best, without Tulio he isn't really effective Is he one of Japan's best defenders? nope Will he stay at Urawa Reds next season? Hopefully yes, but only because we need depth in our defence. I really hope Urawa keeps Finke around for a few years, because he's been injecting alot of youth into the system and is somewhat creating a new mindset within the team. It's not just about winning now, but also developing players for the future. Now just need to get the rest of the fans on the same wave length because i think a majority has a win now at all cost mentality.
