Reiziger out!!! Wait... KNVB just extended his contract right before the tournament. Whose brilliant idea is this?!?
I didnot see it either, but from reports I read, Ohio had many shots, but zero goals. As I posted before Reiziger wanted to play the tough boss by leaving a top striker at home and selecting this bench player.
328361 Dutch Young Orange leader shooting blanks at European Championships: two negative outliers After two group matches at the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia, the Dutch Juniors have recorded the most shots (on goal) of all European Championship participants. Still, coach Michael Reiziger's formation has not yet managed to win a duel. Young Orange had chance after chance to score against Denmark Reserves on Sunday evening, but only managed to find the net once. Danish captain Oliver Provstgaard was credited with the 1-0 after an action by Ruben van Bommel. With Van Bommel, just like with Noah Ohio, the sights are not yet sharp during this European Championship. Both players recorded nine attempts on goal over two European Championship matches (Finland and Denmark), but have not yet scored. Both Ohio and Van Bommel went to the side prematurely against Denmark. YO recorded the most shots (on goal) of all countries after the first two rounds of play in the group stage at the European Championship, but only managed to score three times. In the first group match at the European Championship, Luciano Valente and Ernest Poku scored. Next Wednesday, the Dutch Juniors must win against Ukraine to go to the quarter-finals.
Tough match to watch as Oranje really let themselves down with several missed chances, and some crap defending as well. Reiziger getting a lot of abuse from the media and supporters rightfully so. Speed of play was so slow at times with little movement off the ball, and little cohesion. Very poor matches from Ohio, Taylor, Salah-Eddine, Hato, Maatsen, Captain Rensch (A Joke), and Van Bommel. Must beat Ukraine to advance on Wednesday. Reiziger does not inspire confidence and the players are just not functioning.
U-19 team on the other hand has won both of their matches! Good that they have for Ajax youth in the starting lineup.
It looks like we got the draw against Portugal, they scored 9 goals in two games… Not looking great lmao.
Yes, they sneaked through beating Ukraine 2-0 but get a tough match against nemesis Portugal (that looks better so far) in quarter final. Portugal has surpassed Netherlands with more talented and upcoming young players (their senior squad also won 2 NL in addition to 1 Euro). Van Bommel hopefully will lives up to the potential, still raw.
The back four were pretty shaky, unimaginably unreliable especially considering how many of them are already regular starters...Hato had entirely zero impact going forward...
Dutch U-19s beat England 4-2 and finish the group undefeated. They play Romania in the Semifinals on Monday. Spain (who else) play Germany in the other game. Would be great to see this team win the championship.
This team is a joy to watch, there were 6 changes today and there was still chemistry. Some great direct attacks and disciplined at defense. Future looks orange.
Kees Smit's goal reminded me of the corner Bergkamp and Overmars did at Arsenal. Takes the corner himself, gets the ball back and curles it over the keeper.
Well that's an amazing result. van Bommel gets a RC at the 21 minute and Dutch play with 10 the rest of the way. Poku with the late goal wins it 0-1.
Up next for JO is England u21… without captain Rensch, Taylor and Van Bommel (all are suspended) Maybe finally time to see Banzuzi in midfield!
These shorter competitions use the 2 YC rule which is really difficult on the players. I don't know if there are any England players who will miss the game.
Crazy result today as the underperforming Jong Oranje U21’s somehow managed to advance to the Semi-Finals beating Portugal 1 nil despite playing with 10 men for most of the match thanks to the stupid second yellow card by the overrated Van Bommel who lost his head completely. Oranje we’re just not very good once again, but deserve credit for holding out, and getting the win against the disappointing Portuguese who cannot be pleased after this rather tame performance. The 3 players mentioned “Captain” Rensch, Taylor, and Van Bommel have not played well, and won’t be missed next Wednesday. Oranje have not had any real top performers, and Manager Michael Reiziger has done a very poor job with this team yet they will face England in the Semi Finals. Without going into all of the negative details about this average team they somehow managed to hold up defensively after Van Bommel’s stupid second yellow in the 20th minute to score late on after some nice work from Ernest Poku who finished after getting in behind the Portuguese high line, and rounding the Keeper before sliding the ball into the empty goal. I have no idea what Reiziger is doing with this team regarding his selections. His love affair with certain players makes no sense and the lack of cohesion in the back has really been hard to watch. Hato and Maatsen who have played in the Full Oranje side have looked awful at times, while the aforementioned Taylor and Rensch have also been terrible. Meanwhile the Midfield has Flamingo of PSV who plays CB playing the 6, while the athletic DM Banzuzi who will be playing for RB Leipzig can’t see the field. Also Milambo who played Champions League football this year plays little and nothing today at all is completely insane to me. Reiziger all smiles after the match has looked utterly clueless most of the time, and his interviews regarding the missing Mex Meerdink situation makes him sound completely stupid. Despite all of this we move on to the Semis.
Under 19’s look good. and face Romania in the Semifinals have been so much better to watch compared to the U21’s, and the play of Kees Smit has been fantastic.
Fantastic indeed. 3 goals in 3 matches from midfield! Nice going. Tygo Land is another highly-rated and exciting midfielder in u19, who has broken through and played a handful of matches in the Eredivisie. He sits deeper in the base of midfield. It would be cool to see both Smit and Land “growing up” together in Orange rank in years to come!
U19 moved to the Final, defeating Romania 3-1. Will be facing Spain. Kees Smit scored again. 4 out of 4. Let’s go!!
U-19s have an easy time against Romania winning 1-3. Goals from Konadu, Smit and Sliti. Defense was a bit rocky in the last couple of minutes of the game but managed to clear the ball each time. Spain it is in the finals as they defeated Germany in a goal fest 6-5.
