Jong Oranje has an interesting addition: Couhaib Driouech, a new PSV winger who is quite talented but hasn't played much this season due to injury. I think this could the first time (as far as I could recall?) a player capped by Morocco at any age-level switching allegiance and choose to wear Oranje shirt... It's usually the other way around.

https://www.transfermarkt.com/netherlands-u21/kader/verein/11944 Jong Orange team for the Euro U21 this month. The “veterans” (with Oranje NT caps) to lead the group include Taylor, Maatsen, Hato, Rensch. Flamingo (though uncapped at the senior level) I’d argue could be the most valuable player. Unfortunately he may not have much left on the tank, as he logged the most Eredivisie minutes for the champion PSV. The glaring weakness is the lack of central striker… Emegha is injured, and Meerdink was left out due to disciplinary reason. Noah Ohio is not a proven goalscorer. Goes and Valente were recently added (replacing to Baas and Proper). Valente could be one to watch. Banzuzi is another talent gaining momentum (snagged by RB Leipzig after two strong seasons in Belgian Pro League… he is a classic, physical B2B midfielder in the mold of Gravenberch).
1929826470576189856 is not a valid tweet id This boy is born and raised in the Netherlands. He has also played in Oranje underage teams but switched to Morocco recently. Another defector? It is time to make them sign loyalty contracts (or let them pay back all the subsidies)
327660 Dutch national junior coach Reiziger surprised with a place for A-international Ian Maatsen, normally left back, in midfield, next to Ajax players Kenneth Taylor and Youri Regeer. Reiziger's choices did not work out well, as the whole team came out very weak in the first half. It was a search in midfield and the sloppiness could not be counted on one hand. Sloppy Jong Oranje takes a point. The Dutch Juniors have drawn their first game at the European Championship in Slovakia. The team of national coach Reiziger made the 2-2 against Finland in extremis. The Netherlands started with the chest out and had two chances through Ohio. In the back and In midfield, however, it often suffered sloppy ball loss. Maatsen heralded Terho's 0-1 and Keskinen scored after Regeer lost the ball. With the introduction of Valente, the Juniors were much better after the break and the substitute made the 1-2. Van Bergen was close to the equalizer with his shot, but otherwise there were few chances. It was only in extra time that Poku scored.
327686 For two years, the Orange Youngsters lived towards the European Championship. And when the hunt for the European title could finally begin, they put that mission on the line within half an hour. For more than twenty minutes, the Orange Youngsters had nothing to fear from the Finns, until one player after another sent an incomprehensible pass. That started with Ruben van Bommel, who gave Topi Keskinen almost free rein to keeper Robin Roefs. Jorrel Hato caught up with him. But when Ian Maatsen in the second chance sent a very risky pass that Kenneth Taylor did not take into account, it became a hit after all. Casper Terho, who played for Paderborn in the 2. Bundesliga, cut out the flying Ryan Flamingo and shot diagonally into the long corner: 0-1. And as if the Orange Youngsters hadn't handed out enough gifts, Youri Regeer served one off two minutes later. The Ajax midfielder let himself be snatched the ball, not for the first time, with childish ease. Adam Markhiev, playing in Cyprus, crossed twenty meters and found Topi Keskinen on the left. The Aberdeen attacker was free as a bird because Flamingo had moved to the inside. Keskinen's shot into the near corner was too powerful for Roefs: 0-2. Orange Youngsters named itself as a title contender but operated as a debutant at kick-off in Slovakia. After half an hour, the Netherlands, playing with Maatsen in midfield, had almost as many goals against as in the entire qualifying series. And damage, which prevented the talents from ten matches, had already become almost inevitable. The Orange Youngsters made no claim to a goal in the first half, in which only Noah Ohio had two chances. Several players were ready for a substitution halfway through. National coach Reiziger only put Regeer out of his misery. Luciano Valente was his replacement. And the tastemaker of FC Groningen, who is still waiting for a deal from his club with Feyenoord, seemed to inspire the Dutch Juniors to a comeback. Valente created the first chances and after an hour of play, he scored the tying goal from the sixteen-meter line (1-2). For the third international match in a row, the graceful shadow striker was on target. More importantly, the Dutch Juniors still had plenty of time to come alongside. It also had chances to do so, but Van Bommel in particular did not have his sights on the ball. His shots were hard, but all lacked precision. The following substitutions were intended to bring the Finns to their knees. But bringing in strikers Ernest Poku, Thom van Bergen and Myron van Brederode had the opposite effect rather than a positive effect for a long time. The Dutch Juniors lost momentum, until the six minutes of injury time. Then Van Bergen was close to the equalizer. It came through Poku (2-2). And there was still time, because Devyne Rensch even had the winning one on his boot. Once again, goalkeeper Lucas Bergström showed why Chelsea sees potential in him. As a result, the Dutch Juniors also experienced a false start against the weakest opponent in the group. And that means that the Dutch talents can no longer afford a big mistake against Denmark (Sunday) and Ukraine (Wednesday). Otherwise, just like two years ago in Georgia, the dream will be shattered within a week.
Reiziger playing the genius coach.... Michael Reiziger's line-up contains a striking fact. With Bjorn Meijer, Jorrel Hato and Ian Maatsen, the starting eleven of the Young Orange has no less than three players who play as left backs at their club every week. The reasoning is that Hato now plays centrally in his favorite position and Maatsen has experience at Chelsea, Dortmund and Aston Villa as a moving inverted back in midfield. Maatsen has also played several matches on the midriff under Reiziger before. Yet, the three-left backs experiment doesn't work out well. The first half against Jong Finland proves that for a type of player like Maatsen there is a big difference between a role as a pushing up back in midfield and a role as an actual midfielder. The intended dynamics on the right before halftime turn out completely wrong for the Dutch Juniors.
Janssen demolishes Reiziger, Drenthe enjoys: 'Valente, Valente, Valente!' Theo Janssen was very critical of coach Michael Reiziger in particular, Royston Drenthe enjoyed Luciano Valente immensely. Janssen too, by the way, but the Arnhemmer would have liked to see him start. And he blamed Reiziger for that. 'The second half was clearly a lot better, Valente played a big role in that. He made the difference. He played more like a 10, so Taylor played lower and it was right again. That proves the coach was wrong. With a few adjustments, it runs a lot better. It's a strength that you can turn it around, but it's better to start well.' He continued his argument with more praise for Valente, and more criticism of Reiziger. 'When he is on the field, something happens. That made the difference in the second half. So you could and should have won this match, because in the first half the field covering was worthless. I hope that the coach will make a logical line-up for the next match.'

The Dutch footy press and commentators werenot very gentle in their assessment of Reiziger's failed first half set up.
He put in Ohio, who is a bench player at his club, and left Mexx Meerdink, being written about in Spanish papers as a huge talent, at home because Reiziger had to show who's boss, by questioning the eagerness of Mexx to play in the Orange shirt. Based on what? Based on Mexx withdrawing himself from the Young Orange friendly, because of an injury....and a few days later playing with AZ in a friendly. So he's suggesting Mexx is a liar, regarding his injury
Valente and Banzuzi should be starting… both are top-rated midfielders, and their styles complement each other. This could be a breakout tournament for Valente. It’s mind boggling that Reiziger didn’t even include him in the initial squad (he made it only made it because of injury to another player). Now, wait for the Italian NT rushing to cap Valente
We got a bunch of staff members who appoint/feed each other like an old boys network. And their only frame of reference is Ajax, Ajax, PSV ....and Feyenoord. Valente??? FC Groningen???? Man, I go for Regeer.... Wonder why it took so long before Virgil van Dijk was noticed? We're stuck in an incestious relationship in our KNVB - staff. It's about who do you know, instead of your capabilities to get a job tere.
327828 Boy oh boy. It looks like the Italian FA pulled a Koeman with Valente. Hope they're going to regret it major league.
There’s an easy solution… Feyenoord should stop being cheap, and pay up for Valente personal agreement has been reached, just need the two clubs to agree on a fee. Win-win-win for everyone. Feyenoord gets a quality talent, Valente gets to compete in UCL, and Oranje gets to monitor him closely and (ultimately) cap him.
Meerdink is a talent, but I've read things about his attitude being a problem. He has had issues with Martins at AZ which is why he is not a starter there. I suspect that is the main reason why Reiziger went in another direction. Noa Lang had similar issues at that age and figured that he needed to fix things if he was going to move to the next level. I hope Meerdink does the same.
Read that Valente being linked to Fiorentina so Feyenoord better get their acts together and sign him as his price tag will likely rise.
U19 beat Germany 3-0 2 Goals by Ayoub Oufkir Kees Smit very nice player got the 3rd. Captain Givario Read did not play.
Forgot to mention in this match today I noticed the Goalkeepers were putting the ball back in play rather quickly as the Referee was using a hand motion that the refs in the NBA use.
There seems to be a rule change coming to punish goalkeepers for wasting time. Maybe they're testing it there.
This U21 team is plain bad, they don’t click at all. Only bright spot is Van bommel and a little bit of Maatsen, Ohio is a terrible player.
