If you talk to some on the left, you'll find the message that bad people only exist because the police exist and we don't actually need any police.

As in they really do want police to cease existing.

I've heard/seen Die Hard has a significant influence on this.

When you say, 'some on the left, 'we've got some pretty fecking stupid people among us as do people on the right, (and centre for that matter).

Have you seen how ICE and CBP agents are dressed in these operations? They are better armed and armored than most FBI/US Marshals would be and they have significantly less training on how to properly apprehend people. So, yes, FBI and US Marshals would be better suited than ICE/CBP.

that being said, Immigration services doesn't need heavily armed agents. For the most part, the people they are pursuing are not violent. For ones that are violent, they can get the FBI/US Marshals to do the apprehension.

It's unlikely that many on the left believe the police cause bad people to exist. They're more likely to say that bad people don't exist at all—because they don't. There aren't good people and bad people, there are just people, and they do various amounts of things that are good or bad or neither. The role of law enforcement isn't to stop or control or get rid of bad people but instead to, well... enforce the laws.

And yes, many leftists do genuinely want police to cease existing, but that doesn't mean law enforcement would stop happening. The current model of policing isn't the only possible approach to maintaining public safety; it just seems like it is because it's all we've ever known. What if there were other ways to go about preventing crimes, holding criminals accountable and keeping people safe? Why do we have to remain beholden to this deeply flawed 200-year-old approach?

On Feb 4, 2025, a Coast Guardsman fell overboard. The Coast Guard surged ships into the area to try to find him. A C-130 that normally was signed to transporting immigrants was part of the search. Kristi Noem ordered that plane off of the search and rescue mission and ordered it to go back to transporting immigrants.

    Who loves the troops now?

This is one of those horrific stories that won’t go anywhere because nobody will believe it. Maybe if the Democrats get control of committees they can have hearings on this.

That’s pretty naive. I would agree that many “garden variety” criminals fit your sentence, but there ARE evil people in the world. Like, people who possess the dark triad.

There are some people who are fundamentally broken, and need to be removed from society.

We're nicer about it than many societies have been, historically.

It is almost as these guys were part of a well regulated militia...

ICE agents keep accidentally shooting themselves

Three federal immigration agents accidentally shot themselves in the leg during routine training exercises within two days last year, according to internal documents reviewed by Newsweek.

A fourth incident involved an accidental taser discharge inside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office.

All three firearm discharges occurred during quarterly training sessions while agents were holstering their weapons, a routine but potentially high-risk moment in firearms handling.

No one was killed in the incidents, and all injured personnel were treated and released, according to internal incident reports obtained by the watchdog American Oversight through a Freedom of Information Act request and shared with Newsweek.

ICE doesn't seem to be particularly well regulated.

This was actually reported back in December by Reason, but CNN did an investigation and they are reporting that ICE is starting to arrest observers that are following and recording them under USC 111. The code is intended to prevent people from interfering with federal agents that are performing their official duties. In a majority of cases, the people that are arrested are released without charges, but it is being increasingly used as a tactic to discourage people following them.

I thought this we well known, yes? I recall we have talked about it, and yet there are still observers. IIRC, the Martinez shooting in Chicago happened because she was accused of being one of those observers.

Why are you link dumping an almost hour long video? What do you think you’re accomplishing, because I assure you, not a single person here watched it.
