Or, even worse for them, withhold all federal funding until they legalize abortion, rollback their anti-trans laws, etc, etc, etc. Considering most of them are entirely dependent upon federal funding, it would be a huge savings for the USG and extremely harmful to the states.

 

How so? Minnesota is in the 8th circuit, which is a very Conservative circuit (MN is the only blue state, the rest are very red) with only 1 of 11 judges being a Democrat appointee. It might get spiked by the MN district judge, but once it arrives in the appeals court it is going to have a much harder time than the Portland and LA NG federalizations had in the 9th

 

SCOTUS does not have a ruling on this. It was a shadow docket rejection of the appeal of the temporary restraining order. They haven't even gotten to the point where the lower court has a ruling on the case. That is probably years away.

In the aftermath of Kamala Harris’s loss, many pundits and politicians are turning to a familiar scapegoat. And yeah, this goes here. We wouldn't be in this mess if the progressive left had gotten off their high horse and realized she was the only chance to stop the situation we're now in. Unfortunately, the ACAB crowd never would have voted for her.

A Minneapolis based group of unions is calling for a general strike on the 23rd. We all knew this might be the next step. Frey and Walz, your move. If you back it, you’re my hero. If you are against it, you’re useless.

My nightly wander through Twitterland suggests to me that locals are getting increasingly confrontational. If this union group can redirect that piecemeal anger into one major action, I think it’ll make a violent confrontation between the public and the ICEstapo less likely. I’ve seen too much video of citizens daring ICE to shoot them. The citizens are being aggressive.

 

DOJ is investigating both Walz and Frey.

Also, a judge has ordered ICE to stop arresting people for protesting and also to no longer stop cars without cause.

I’m being serious here…is it “cause” if the driver or a passenger is brown or black? Because that’s allowed under Kavanagh stops. What about a bumper sticker of the Honduran flag? What about a bumper sticker for Club America? Minnesota United (after all soccer is a commie sport)? Because without understanding what the ruling thinks counts as cause, this seemingly positive development might just be a whites get out of jail free card.

 

A federal judge in Minnesota has ordered ICE agents not to retaliate against peaceful protestors or to crowd dispersal tools, such as pepper spray, in retaliation for protected speech. She also said agents could not stop or detain legal observers or protestors in vehicles who are not “forcibly obstructing or interfering" with agents.

From my understanding, the order about detaining passengers in cars is specifically about the protesters who have been following them and recording ICE activity. ICE agents have been detaining them calling observation, following, and recording "interference/impeding" It's not about the Kavanaugh stops; the plaintiffs in the case are protesters and activists arguing their 1st Amendment and 4th Amendment rights have been infringed upon. I'd start in the Evangelical churches on a nice sunny Sunday morning if that's any solace.
Maybe some tear gas and then pepper balls as they flee. Fire hoses & German shepherds if you wanna go old school. Give em a liddle taste of the Trumpy experience.

 

I think it's pretty bad when they use it on non-citizens as well, TBH. The idea that immigrants, illegal or otherwise deserve to be seriously injured or killed by these unleashed thugs does not quite compute with me.

Black Panthers are already on scene with their arsenal. If cops don't step up it's only a matter of time before the civilian populace defend themselves.

 

ICE held down and detained a member of the press. Minneapolis-based Getty photographer John Abernathy was covering the protest at the Whipple detention center when he was detained by ICE. His BlueSky with a photo of him tossing his camera to another photographer as he was being detained to avoid the camera being confiscated. And this is the last photo (on Instagram) taken right before he tossed the camera.
