I would argue it is the opposite. Businesses control the government.

Maybe it is better to say the conglomerates are the government? You definitely aren't wrong that the conglomerates control the government, but I don't think that accurately describes the level of control they have over the SKorean government.

*shrug* Regardless, the agreement the Trump Administration made with the SKorean government was really an agreement with the conglomerates. By raiding the construction for the Hyundai/LG plant, ICE seriously damaged that agreement.

I agree with the reality, but I'm not sure Trump and this administration understand that is the reality. I'm thinking they are likely to believe the government is in control and separate from the cheabol.

I don't think the Trump administration understands anything other than their ability to pump out press releases to placate the rubes.

Yes, our allies are handling these fascist tactics well

    Asia
Workers detained in immigration raid head home to a reeling South Korea

Seeing their compatriots shackled at the wrists and ankles during the raid at the Hyundai facility last week jolted a population that typically views the U.S. very favorably.

imagine being the dumbfck ICE supervisor who got the "tip" from some MAGA rep and said "why yes! Let's jeopardize the region's economic future by arresting these S.K. workers"

Love to know how big the meltdown in the guv'nah's office was when he found out.

Gives me an idea. Blue states should entice foreign investment with a pledge "your workers won't be sent to an ICE gulag under our watch"

With Trump sending in Federal agencies and federalizing the national guard, how would Blue states prevent their workers from being rounded up by ICE? If Blue states were able to do this, the Supreme Court wouldn't have just authorized ICE agents to use race as a determining factor while they patrol LA. There wouldn't be an ICE operation in Chicago right now, etc, etc, etc.

I'm thinking secession is really on its way. It won't be an open war, but I would not be surprised if a block of states decide to change their tax policy and start implementing border check ups.

Fascists only understand the will to power. So if they have power over you, any attempt at taking it back is seen as a threat to be put down. Secession can't work when they control us. It only makes sense when we offer them power when they have none.

We had our chance in 2020 but didn't take it.

    More ICEholery in Chicagoland

A man was shot and killed by ICE Friday morning in the Chicago suburb of Franklin Park and an agent suffered severe injuries.

ICE said they were conducted law enforcement activity in the 9800 block of Grand Avenue and conducted a vehicle stop. A man resisted and attempted to drive his vehicle into the arresting team, according to ICE.

    Good job, CA Dems

After a summer characterized by masked federal agents detaining immigrants in Los Angeles, the California Legislature passed two measures Thursday that seek to force law enforcement officers to identify themselves.

Senate Bills 627 and 805 were among the most controversial to pass in the final days of this year’s legislative session. They would ban local, out-of-state and federal law enforcement officers from wearing face coverings, as well as require officers to be readily identifiable, respectively.

This sounds like a great opportunity to challenge the Supreme Court's authority and challenge them to enforce their decision, but the reality is that most cops, even in California, agree with the fascists, so getting them to enforce this law as written will be difficult enough, much less enforcing it to the point where a Supreme Court decision comes in to play.

This article doesn’t say the victim did anything, it instead says that federal officials said he did xyz. Point being, this writer didn’t take for granted that the cops are telling the truth. The article also says federal officials said he had a history of reckless driving. His driving record is 3 instances of being poor (driving w/o a license or w/o insurance) and one speeding ticket.

    One.

If you go back more than 20 but less than 25 years, I have three times the history of reckless driving.

Any journo who doesn’t verify statements from law enforcement is doing anti journalism. I don’t know how you’d study or document it, but I suspect that if you could, you’d find that lying and deception from law enforcement went up when Trump’s election exacerbated a permissive attitude toward cops who lie.

    Yep.

my pet theory is that the percentage of cops who are bad people (broadly speaking) isn’t the problem

    Instead, the problem is

    1. The percentage of cops who protect and cover for bad people is high and
    2. The corrosive effect of this kind of work environment makes initially good people worse

    it’s just a theory
