Yeah, if this is such a big fvkcing deal, why don't those paper tigera build the wall?

I suspect its because they recognize that this is a big waste of money, and that "illegal" immigration is closer to speeding, than it is to some sort of horrific felony.

ICE has denied they were there for enforcement. It's crazy that we can't get the truth from the simplest of events. Not saying what you posted isn't true ... just that we are left guessing what the hell happened. It's pretty crazy ... maybe that's the point ... to create confusion ?

"This had nothing to do with the Dodgers. CBP vehicles were in the stadium parking lot very briefly, unrelated to any operation or enforcement," McLaughlin said in an email to The Associated Press.

I don't even know the situation over there but I will defend the equity program. Because of the disadvantage of black people and minorities in general in terms of finances and everything else starting a small business is hard and dispensary stuff often makes it so that you have a to have a large amount of independent wealth in order to start the business which makes it almost impossible. so a lot of black people to start which is perfect because when it was legal they arrested a whole bunch of black people for what is now legal and the businesses 90% White

The thing is, ICE cannot show weakness or being pushed around in any way. They can't make an announcement like "we showed up to do some enforcement activity but the property owners told us to leave, so we left".

Evidence that ICE was there - video showing people wearing casual clothes (i.e. no uniforms) and tactical vests and masks getting into unmarked vehicles and departing the property. The (lack of) uniforms and unmarked SUVs matches previous ICE activity.

Evidence that ICE wasn't there - they said "nuh uh, that wasn't us" when the LA Times asked them about it.

The other thing is, ICE cannot show weakness, so they need to make an example out of the Dodgers to re-establish their "authority". I expect they will cause chaos tonight as people start to leave the Dodger game (i.e. in the seventh inning) by setting up roadblocks (on the public streets outside the parking lots) and harassing the people in the area. If the LAPD was trustworthy, I would hope the mayor or the city council would send the LAPD to enforce order, if for no other reason than to keep traffic flowing. But based on their history, the LAPD is likely to be sympathetic with ICE.

If they weren’t in the Dodgers’ parking lot for enforcement, they were there staging to conduct a raid somewhere else. Both options are still a good thing for the Dodgers to disrupt by making them move along.

FYI the three-judge panel, which included two Trump appointees and one Biden appointee, was unanimous.

    Has anyone asked this question?

Let’s say ICE rolls up somewhere in a stand your ground state, without any identification…no badges or uniforms, and in unmarked cars.

And let’s say someone stands his or her ground and shoots an ICEman (not George Gervin or Richard Kuklinski, but the other kind).

@Yoshou @yossarian @any other lawyers how does that play out?

I’d guess it would come down to how the jury feels about it. I doubt the law would ultimately have anything to do with the verdict. But IANAL.

@diablodelsol Have you seen/listened to one of the recent LegalEagle episodes? The one that deals pretty much with the question we were going back and forth about. That episode doesn't get into the firing aspect we were more in disagreement about, but does talk about the legal authority and who can and cannot, and under what curcimstances, a decision can be made on legality of an action. I am disappointed they did not discuss the aspect we were in disagreement about.

Mind, just about everybody else I have listened to have all said much the same, though if they gave as much detail I probably missed it.

Here's the video, which is about 22min long.

No. They're extreme leftist Soros-bought Marxist Kkkommie bat-shit Dummykkkrat lunatics.

...and THAT's just one of many problems with today's Republican party. Unless you're waving a Confederate flag in the Capitol or wearing a "Daddy's Home!" shirt, MAGA thinks you're farther on the left than the centrist Kamala Harris.

My Mayor tried to get the school board to approve the issue of a high interest bond (Chicago credit rating keeps getting dowgraded) to pay for raises to teachers (who funded his campaign)

The school president didn't approve. He was forced to resign and all the school board members also resigned. (The board for sure, the president may be waiting to get fired by the new board)

Now they will be replaced, hand-picked by Johnson. Very Trumpian

    https://www.chalkbeat.org/chicago/2...embers-resign-amid-johnson-martinez-tensions/

Also the Mayor was supposed to conduct a country wide search for the next head of out subway system, he said he did, recent documents that were discovered by a filing for information (I forget what they are called) show that he never did, so he is probably just going to appoint a friend.

It is so funny how these hard lefties operate the same exact way as Trump.

I'm not a lawyer, but I play one on the internet. ;)

I think the short answer is "It's complicated".

The longer answer is that they are obviously going to get arrested and charged with killing a law enforcement officer/federal official. After that, it is going to be a crapshoot that favors conviction as the pre-trial and trial will likely focus on whether ICE announced themselves and/or the person knew or should have known that they were ICE officers. If there is bodycam footage showing they announced themselves, there's a really good chance the shooter is headed to jail/deathrow. If the bodycam footage shows they didn't announce themselves before the shooting, the odds of getting off are much better. If there's no bodycam footage at all, deference is likely going to be given to the ICE officials who will claim they announced themselves.

There are plenty of cases out there when an officer was wounded/killed during a the process of an apprehension and, even in cases where there is questions about whether the shooter knew the person they were shooting at was a police officer, more were convicted than not. TBH, a lot of it is going to come down to the defense lawyer.

One of the more covered shootings of a police officer during an attempted apprehension is likely Breonna Taylor's boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, who shot a police officer through a closed door. I don't believe there was bodycam footage of the forced entry, but police claimed they announced themselves before breaching, while Walker claimed he did hear an announcement. Their neighbors were a mixed bag of saying they heard an announcement, didn't hear an announcement, or heard something, but it wasn't clear what was said. Thanks to the attention on the case, Walker was able to get a good lawyer and, as a result, his charges were dropped. However, if it weren't for the coverage, I don't think there is any question that Walker would have been convicted, or plead out.

A very important update to the above. Oops. Walker claimed he did NOT hear an announcement.

What is the point of liberal groups interfering with these arrests?

They aren’t earning themselves any brownie points.

Well that's a couple of dozen kept out to MAGA

Have a feeling the leopard thread will be chock full of MAGAs whining that furriners don't wanna come to their hotels & Air B&Bs this summer. "I didn’t think he was gonna scare away the tourists with all their yummy money! They love America, don't they?"

Wasn't there a case in Ohio where the cops used a warrant they lied about, entered in the middle of the night without announcement and the boyfriend shot the cops while they killed the girlfriend in her sleep?

Gotta go Google whatever happened to him as he's a good, recent, test case.

You speak French ? Reading this, I can only advise you to read this great history book about the fate of Allied airmen shot down and rescued in England, France and Germany.: https://www.tallandier.com/livre/tombes-du-ciel/

Oui, je parle français. It will be interesting to see if my grandfather and the Kiwi are talked about in the book. The story is well-known enough for the NZ embassy to have given my grandfather a medal back in the 1990s.

The book author Claire Andrieu identified 34000 airmen rescuers -that she named 'helpers'- in France (but she wrote that the real number is certainly higher) and at least 4000 airmen who later could escape France and go back to England. Thousands other airmen didn't go back to England, either because they remained hidden until the end of the war, or because they were captured. I can search in the book if you have an indication of location or name. But she only focused on a dozen of examples that she studied in detail.

The information I have from the NZ embassy in France is that the NZ airplane was shot down in mid June 1944 near Lusigny. There was one survivor, his initials are F. E. (I have his full name). The document I have says my grandfather kept him hidden until the allies liberated Troyes (Aube - 10), although I'm not sure if the entire time was spent at my family's home (I suspect that would have been too risky, particularly given my mum's story that the Nazis came for them one night - keep in mind my mum would have been 3 or 4 when it all happened).
