the NYT Daily podcast had a reporter talk about his "ride along." A four hour operation involving over a dozen vehicles and agents from the FBI and State Department IN ADDITION to ICE. Net result: three arrests.

That's a lot of money for three arrests.

Hey, you know those "Government Always Does a Terrible Job" Republicans? It's strange how silent they are when the government does a terrible (and wasteful) job when one of their guys is in charge. You'd almost think they cared more about power rather than actually governing.

Obama, (due to his competency) tended to focus more on the employers, which meant that there were often larger groups detained. I was still involved with immigration law some back then, and there was plenty of criticism that came from immigration lawyers and the Left about the levels of deportation during his administration. That the truth was so far from the narrative from the right raised eyebrows and led to entirely reasonable accusations of racism. It is fair to note though that one reason there was more under Biden especially is that the US wasn't viewed as a shithole autocratic backwater.

Boca Juniors matches are all sold out. There are still tickets available to see River Plate.

I feel like the community or the state should be sending paid for taco trucks to feed these guys, so they can compare the guy who doesn't do the paperwork to make sure they get paid, with the people feeding them. Plus, you know, tacos. TACO. Get it?

But I can understand the reluctance of taco truck operators to be in the general area.

For those who need to hear it, interrupting a cabinet press conference with disruptive theatrics and then disobeying security is not "congressional oversight", it's a publicity stunt.

As much as the mayor is really annoying me with her fecklessness, I gotta agree they shouldn't spend a dime to pay for the federal government assault.

It's like, all Trumpworld knows is publicity stunts. Everything they do is a publicity stunt. Kristi Noem didn't need to be in LA, giving a speech about how the federal government was going to remove the elected leaders of the city of Los Angeles and the state of California. But a Democrat does a publicity stunt, and they clutch their pearls and break out the fainting couch. "Oh my stars, that rude man interrupted me!"

So apprehending someone that has JUST crossed the border and deporting them immediately doesn't get you as much points as going to a kid's school to apprehend a dreamer that has no memory of the nation of his birth or nabbing a single mother who's been here for 20 years working and living a decent life while abiding the law by going to her routine immigration appointment?

    Gotcha!

I didn't there there was a point system with MAGA based on how inhuman the raid was.

Nevermind that it was in LA, a city in the state which the senator represents. She really didn't know how to handle it. She should have just let him speak and ignored him. Same as a heckler. But she's afraid of something. Or insecure about something. At the least, it tells me she doesn't have much debate skills.

It was a performance for her boss. She had to show him that she could be a villain on TV.

Just got this in my inbox. Real Madrid in Miami was supposed to sell out. Either way, it is safe to say sending ICE to act as security for matches...will affect attendance. Tickets amy be sold...let's see who shows up.

They are tracking the prices in the resale market. Cheapest ticket I can find for this match is $200 and that's upper section and upper rows (resale). Only tickets that looks like it didn't sell are club seats that are $1000+ . But yeah ... it's true you could still have a bunch of no shows and have part of the stadium look empty. Not sure how many undocumented immigrants attend these matches.

From what I’ve seen it’s not just undocumented immigrants who are worried about ICE. Anybody who’s from a foreign country or even looks like they might be is at potential risk.

Well ... this is just anecdotal, but I personally know many Brazilians coming over to watch my team play (either from Brazil or live here already). The only thing they are worried about (the ones coming from Brazil) and is restrictive is the cost of things. Personally I didn't hear any of them mention ICE. I am gonna personally attend one of the matches as well.

That’s good. Given how much foreign tourism has gone down this year I assume many feel differently, but then I guess that depends on how much people pay attention to American politics. I guess we’ll see.

I think a Real Madrid match for example would be a good measure ... because those are games that are supposed to fill up. I believe they do fill up when they do their US pre season tour. But a lot of the other matches not involving big European teams ... I don't think that'd fill up regardless.
