This is a pretty good monologue from Kimmel. I mean, pretty good in context. (My expectations are low.) He hits many of the points we’d all like middle America to hear…that Trump provoked the protests, that he’s exaggerating the violence to justify more federal action, that it’s a distraction from the Musk feud, etc. Plus there’s a supercut of Trump talking about sweeping the ground in forests where he sounds extra deranged. And that, frankly, is the point I’d prefer the late nighters focus on…the man has no marbles left. His brain is complete mush. Politicians can’t survive being the object of mockery. It’s subjective, but my take is that most critiques of Trump are, look at this stupid thing or hypocritical thing he did. But the key is the last two words: He Did. Trump is always the protagonist in the story. Instead, depict him as a manipulatable, spent force, a chicken running around with its head cut off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=573&v=baR4logaaOQ&embeds_referring_euri=https://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/&source_ve_path=Mjg2NjY
The "No-Spin Zone" known as the right-wing media makes it seem like the entire city is under attack, similar to London in WWII. We know the truth.
Stephan Miller is not going to be happy. I guess small business owners have complained to Trump about losing their workers. That feeling when you realize you've started deporting your own cheap labor. pic.twitter.com/my85f8rXFz— Sonny Bunch (@SonnyBunch) June 12, 2025
Pro Publica is alleging that President Bukele is in bed with MS 13, that he’s been paying them with USAID money to support him. https://www.propublica.org/article/...dor-ms13-gang-vulcan-corruption-investigation Given the context of El Sal being a site for extraordinary rendition, this seems similar to Iran Contra, another nasty, corrupt deal where the president is using our money to fund our enemies. In 1986 the scandal mattered. Obvisouly today it won’t.
Trump's administration the the KING of the OWN GOAL!!! Seats for Miami opener have gone from $300 to $150 to $55 and they are still empty AF. Kristi Noem’s Border Patrol Threatens Soccer Fans Coming to U.S. This Summer U.S. Customs and Border Protection says it will be “suited and booted” at FIFA Club World Cup games across the country this summer. The agency, which operates under Homeland Security and its secretary, Kristi Noem, confirmed on social media that it will be present and “ready to provide security for the first round of games.”
This isn't accurate. The match technically looks sold out. Only tickets available are resale tickets (scalpers and I guess poeple not going) and the lowest price is just under $80. These are upper ring tickets though. Most tickets being resold in lower sections are well over $100. I don't know what original face ticket value was. Plus, I think this Club World Cup thing was always going to be a hard sale regardless of the immigration issue. The Madrid game in Charlotte for example is still going for a lot of money in terms of ticket prices. $200+ just for bleacher seats IIRC.
They probably weren't including fees and taxes. Some sites fuck you on the check out process. Either way, we'll see on Saturday (Sunday?) what the Stadium looks like.
Related (and sorry for the Xweet, but there is video). It was reposted by Anna Bower. Senator Padilla’s office sends me this video of his take-down and detention at Sec. Ok ... so Ticketmaster already includes fees on the ticket price I see on their site. So that could be it. But ... these are all resale tickets. There is a distinction between original tickets and resale tickets on their site. All tickets available for that game are labelled resale. That should mean all tickets were sold. I will grant that I don't know what the process for reselling a ticket is. I'd imagine it's up to the original ticket holder to place their ticket for sale on the site. Not sure who sets the price though. When you buy a ticket you can buy ticket insurance and I guess the ticket could end up at the hands of the organizers again. Just eyeballing it looks like around 20% of tickets are up for resale.
Seth Meyers has been on Trump’s deteriorating state of mind for awhile. He’s actually my favorite of the late nighters for political commentary, Kimmel and Colbert are a little too smarmy and Fallon is just intolerable.
I prefer Colbert's humor, but for something a bit more serious, Meyers is where I go. I think he's got and really good non-humor view of the world. Not quite Jon Stewart level (comparing comedians) but up there. Can't stand Kimmel.
I heard about this on the news as I was driving just now. I have a feeling that manhandling and detaining and cuffing a sitting US Senator is going to have more of a Streisand effect (*) on this issue than the administration wants - if she had just let Padilla say his piece, it would not have been as newsworthy. (*) Streisand effect - an effort to shut someone up which ends up amplifying their voice. Named for Barbra Streisand, who filed a lawsuit against a website which was publishing aerial photos of the California coast, which included some property owned by Streisand. The lawsuit brought more attention to the website than if she had ignored it.
Back in Trump's 1st term, there were a some workplace ICE raids. So this isn't anything new. There were immigrants not showing up for work in different cities afraid of the raids. I just don't know if the scope of the raids now are bigger than then. The political environment is definitely more elevated though.
Miller has demanded 3000 arrests a day. That is a massive increase from Trump's first term, and almost impossible to get without gathering up citizens. Not potential citizens, actual citizens.
One problem is that the left has portrayed Obama and Biden as having "deported more illegals", but those numbers were inflated due to the number that were apprehended shortly after crossing and sent back. Thus the media and Dems are saying "haha, you promised mass deportations and Biden deported more than you hahaha", and Miller's response to that is... "Bet." And since the southern border is essentially a ghost town, the illegals that are being arrested now to answer the ridicule from the left are those who live well north of the border. I doubt Trump knows too much of the day to day details, but has given Miller and Homan his blessing to carry out his deportation program.
