Well, I suppose the Italian standards (for awarding very high grades) are extreme, although with some exceptions made if the narrative is also there maybe (some 10 out of 10s for Roberto Baggio in famous games and suchlike). Maybe if that shot had gone in after the skill and dribble from the middle of the pitch they would even go a bit higher I guess! Although like vegan10 said the 9 out of 10 from Guerin Sportivo is a rare grade for sure, generally speaking.
........ well... you are a good person in your own way ..hahahahahahaha good boy ! yes .... I once saw images of this match...on the Internet he gave .. Ajax-Milan not a good memory for Gullit GENOA, JAN 5. Ruud Gullit has bad memories of the Ajax-AC Milan match. The Champions League duel was played in Amsterdam last September. The Milan striker was booed by the crowd every time he came into possession of the ball. In an interview with the Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Gullit said: “That reaction to my departure from the Dutch national team was the worst thing that happened to me in 1994. The best thing is that I can still play football and often like to do so.” Shortly after arriving at the training camp in preparation for the World Cup, Gullit said goodbye to the Dutch national team because he could not agree with the style of play envisaged by national coach Advocaat in America. ---------------------------------- Hiddink seeks coach for Olympic team ROTTERDAM, 3 JAN. New national coach Guus Hiddink wants to appoint a special trainer for the Olympic football team, or Jong Oranje, and the UEFA youth team. This means that Rinus Israel, who has been in charge of Jong Oranje until now, will become his assistant for the A-team. In the old constellation, Dick Advocaat also coached the UEFA's (16-18 years), who qualified for the World Cup in Nigeria in March during his reign. Hiddink does not think this function is compatible with his main task with the first team. "I already have a number of candidate coaches in mind for the Olympic team. I attach more value to this level. In Spain, at the Games in Barcelona, I saw how big the impact can be of an Olympic football team. Furthermore, I am pleased with the presence of Rinus Israel. With his experience, he can be of great service to me," said Hiddink last night on the Veronica radio program Sportet. The former coach of PSV, Fenerbahce and Valencia also stated that he would not call on Ruud Gullit. "The Dutch national team has taken a new path with the 1998 World Cup in France as its end goal. I consider Gullit a thing of the past." Juventus is the new leader in the Italian football league. The illustrious club from Turin defeated dethroned leader Parma 3-1 yesterday. For Juventus it was the eighth consecutive victory. For Parma the defeat meant the first loss of points after seven consecutive home victories. Juventus now has a two-point lead over Parma and still has a catch-up duel against Torino pending. Juventus had to do without Italian star player Roberto Baggio, Frenchman Deschamps and German international Kohler in Parma. The grey-haired Ravanelli was now the big man. The striker scored twice and fought fierce duels with the long-haired Couto of Parma. The Portuguese defender received a red card shortly before the end after two bookings. Dino Baggio put Parma ahead in the 57th minute. After the break, Sousa equalised after substitute goalkeeper Galli misjudged a lob from the Portuguese. Ravanelli decided the tough and qualitatively disappointing top match. First he scored with a beautiful header after a cross from Vialli, then from a penalty kick. Sampdoria won 3-1 against Lazio last night. Ruud Gullit's club has been unbeaten for six games and is now sixth in the rankings. In Genoa, Croatian Mikhailovich opened the scoring after a beautiful free kick. Signori equalized, but David Platt scored twice for Sampdoria after the break. Signori missed another penalty. AC Milan were very unlucky in the home match against Napoli: 1-1. Simone seemed to be the match winner fifteen minutes before the end, but just before the final whistle Cannavaro equalized after a blunder by Milan goalkeeper Rossi. City rivals Internazionale drew 1-1 at Cagliari. Three players were shown the red card in the Sardinian capital. AS Roma are now third in the rankings after winning the home match against Bari 2-0. The goals were scored by Balbo and Trotti. Fiorentina are fourth after the 1-0 defeat at Torino. Defender Pessotto scored his first goal in Serie A. At Padova - Cremonese (3-2) there was a penalty festival. Longhi converted two for the home team, Pirri one for the visitors. Longhi also scored a field goal. Genoa lost 2-1 at Foggia. Manicone scored for Van 't Schip's club. ----------------------- Algemeen Dagblad, 9 january 1995 With Gullit, Sampdoria are unbeaten for six games. The match in Genoa against Lazio yielded three points. Mihailovich opened the score in the tenth minute with a good free kick from 20 meters. Three minutes later Signori, on an assist from the otherwise inconspicuous Aron Winter, made it 1-1 again. The Briton David Platt put Samp ahead 2-1 before the break by converting a penalty. Gullit had been brought down by Cravero. Platt also made it 3-1 in the 50th minute. That was it, because Signori failed from the penalty spot and Bellucci did not allow the completely unmarked Gullit a goal. AC Milan have not yet recovered from their lowest point. --------------------- Parool, 9 january 1995 Sampdoria suddenly regained their prospects of European football after beating Lazio 3-1. Ruud Gullit was the star performer. ---------------------- Trouw, 9 january 1995 With Gullit, Sampdoria have been unbeaten for six league matches (twelve points) and are now sixth in the rankings. The match in Genoa against Lazio yielded three points. Michailovich opened the score in the tenth minute with a precise free kick from 20 metres. Three minutes later, Signori, on an assist from the otherwise inconspicuous Aron Winter, made it 1-1. Briton David Platt put 'Samp' ahead 2-1 before half-time by converting a penalty. Gullit had been brought down by Cravero. Platt also scored in the 50th minute for 3-1. That was it, because Signori failed from the penalty spot and Bellucci did not allow the completely unmarked Gullit a goal. ------------------------------ Hiddink does not rule out Gullit's return to the Dutch national team NOORDWIJK, 17 JAN. Guus Hiddink has opened the door for Ruud Gullit to join the Dutch national team. Last week, the new national coach invited six players by telephone to attend the friendly match between the Netherlands and France tomorrow as a farewell match. The name of Ruud Gullit was missing from the list of Berry van Aerle, Wim Kieft, Erwin Koeman, Ronald Koeman, Frank Rijkaard and Jan Wouters. Hiddink first wants to hear from Gullit in a personal meeting whether he has definitively put an end to his international career. "I have received signals that Ruud is interested in the Dutch national team again. Others deny that. I want to hear from him face-to-face what the truth is," said the national coach. Only when Gullit actually makes himself available again, Hiddink will consider the steps to be taken. Given the list of departees, which he himself compiled, the Achterhoeker apparently does not rule out a return of Gullit. When it is suggested to him that the former captain of Oranje is maybe a dominant player that the Dutch national team lacks, an approving nod follows. Hiddink cautiously: "I sent Ruud a fax and he was on my answering machine. Formally, the situation is still open. In any case, we have to take into account the grandeur of his career and the general influence he has had. Apart from what has happened in recent years." In a recent radio interview, Hiddink stated that the Gullit book was closed for him. “The Dutch national team has taken a new path under Advocaat with a different generation of footballers,” were his words at the time. “Gullit is a thing of the past for me. Would the European Championship in England be a nice farewell for him? He has already been to that country, right?” [...] -------------------------------------------- Dialogue with Ruud Gullit would show courage [column] UTRECHT, 19 JAN. Is there still room for Ruud Gullit in the Dutch national team? New national coach Guus Hiddink repeatedly neither denied nor confirmed yesterday that this question had been on his mind in recent days. Following his earlier statements, it became clear that he felt strange about including Gullit in the list of players who officially said goodbye to Oranje yesterday during the friendly match between the Netherlands and France. Hiddink is certainly interested in the true circumstances of the tumultuous separation between Gullit and the Dutch national team. Why? Because he wants to know what the relationship was like with Advocaat? Because he wants to know who prompted Gullit's emotionally charged departure? Why doesn't Hiddink repeat his statement from early January that the Gullit period is definitely over? Because he says he has picked up signals. But why does he keep repeating the same cryptic sentences, in which Hiddink hints that he wondered whether Gullit also belonged in the list of multiple ex-internationals who were allowed to say goodbye in Utrecht? Gullit was not in Utrecht yesterday. According to Hiddink, there is a message from the 65-times international on his answering machine, but he says he is still uncertain about the content. If the farewell is final, Gullit would not have been interested in a party among the Dutch who booed him so disrespectfully in the Olympic Stadium a few months ago. Gullit is disgusted by the Dutch (read: Ajax) football culture, which wallows in self-righteousness. Hiddink will not be able to change that opinion. [...] Dutch footballers have become anonymous, just read the popularity polls abroad. Dutch football has ceased to exist on the map. A player like Jonk has the beautiful task of dictating the game in the Dutch national team. They don't come more colourless, anonymous and fearful than this former ballet dancer. Only Blind still has charisma, but he is getting on in years. It wouldn't hurt to talk to Gullit again. If only to clarify existing misconceptions and to make it clear to us again what charisma is. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Gullit feels too old for return to the Dutch national team ROTTERDAM, 20 JAN. Ruud Gullit will no longer be available for the Dutch national team. He told reporters yesterday after training with his Italian football club Sampdoria. The Amsterdammer said, among other things, that he feels too old. He is 32. “The Dutch national team is at the beginning of a new generation. The sight is on Paris in 1998. A return is no longer an option.” Incidentally, Gullit had already stated immediately after Hiddink was appointed as Advocaat's successor that he did not feel like returning. Gullit still stated that he cannot and does not want to reveal the real reason for his departure from the Dutch national team selection in May last year. "I told Hiddink and that's where I'll leave it. I know it is strange." There was some confusion about a possible return of Gullit in recent days. This arose after national coach Hiddink wondered whether Gullit belonged to the group that said goodbye to Oranje during the Netherlands-France match; Van Aerle, Rijkaard, the Koeman brothers, Wouters and Kieft. Hiddink contacted Gullit, with whom he worked at PSV, by fax, but did not receive an immediate answer. The star did call back, but the debuting national coach said he had not yet had time to respond to the recorded message on his answering machine. That contact was made yesterday. Gullit told the national coach the same thing he told reporters in Italy. The final round of the European Championship in England is still a year and a half away. He will then be almost 34. When asked what he would do if Gullit was willing to return, Hiddink did not want to answer for the time being, which increased the confusion at the beginning of the week. He would then have to hang up an "if, if story" and wanted to speak to Gullit personally first. Gullit made his comeback in the Netherlands twice in the past. The last time was short-lived. After a week of training camp for the World Cup in America and half a match against Scotland, he turned his back on the national team at the end of May last year. That happened under mysterious circumstances. After the World Cup, he cited the attacking tactics of the Netherlands as the reason for his departure. -------------------------------------- No football in Italy following murder of 24-year-old Genoa fan GENOA, 6 FEB. [...] According to Ruud Gullit, one of the instigators of the strike, the action that brought almost all sports in Italy to a standstill this weekend should not be an act in itself. “It should be the beginning of a revolution for peace,” said the former captain of the Dutch national team. Stadiums remained empty in Italy yesterday as a result of the murder of a 24-year-old Genoa fan, a week ago in Genoa, during the club's match against champion Milan. According to Gullit, it is not a problem of football alone. “Violence is a cancer that rages in the entire society. Speaking for myself, I don't know how long I want to play.” Gullit wants a societal revolution From one of our reporters Rome - A Sunday without football, in the middle of the season. It had not happened in Italy since the Second World War. The murder of a Genoa supporter, last week before the match against AC Milan, made the Italian sports world think. At the request of the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI), the momentous decision was taken. About 3,000 people laid flowers at the place where 24-year-old Vincenzo Spagnolo was stabbed to death. In a statement, the 'ultras', the fanatical football supporters, stated that the violence must stop. In prison, the 18-year-old perpetrator Simone Barbaglia wrote a letter in which he expressed his regret for the murder. There was virtually no sport in Italy yesterday. The Davis Cup match against the Czech Republic and the horse races were an exception. A committee has been set up to investigate the supporter violence. Clubs are no longer allowed to support the 'hard core' of their supporters. According to Ruud Gullit of Sampdoria, who took initiative among the footballers, the action of last weekend should not be an act in itself. "It speaks for itself this action cannot happen every week. Maybe I am naive. It should be the beginning of a revolution for peace," said the former captain of the Dutch national team. Examination of conscience after murder of supporter ROME, FEB. 3. Claudio Spagnolo, the stabbed Genoa football fan, was buried yesterday under a gray sky. There were wreaths from supporter clubs across Italy, from the Bad Boys of Pescara, from the Indomitables of Lazio. Players from the two local clubs were present, and Ruud Gullit had comforting kisses and hugs for the devastated parents. Friends and officials made speeches full of sorrow and without forgiveness, and visitors to the Zapata youth center, which the victim frequented, raised their fists as the coffin was carried out: Hasta siempre Claudio (Until always Claudio). Despite a reluctant football association, players and clubs in Italy, and many outside the world of football, have begun an examination of conscience over the violence. “We are very good at pretending that we live in a civilized country,” wrote the Corriere della Sera in an editorial. The call for a clear signal is growing. Antonio Matarrese, president of the football association, has been forced to suspend the league next Sunday. In some places, demonstrations against the violence have been organized instead of matches. More and more people are calling for a tougher stance. “It seems impossible to me that a state that has managed to defeat the (left-wing terrorist organization) Red Brigades should allow itself to be brought to its knees by the ultrà,” says Julio Velasco, the coach of the volleyball association. The leaders of the Serie A and B clubs yesterday drew up a ten-point plan, their wish list for Matarrese. They propose to cut all economic ties with the official supporters' clubs: no more free tickets, no financial support for transport to away games. Big clubs like Milan, Inter and Juventus have tried to buy peace around the stadium in this way. The supporters' clubs are also an important channel for selling season tickets, and some club directors have all too easily dismissed the violent ones within those clubs as isolated individuals. Other proposals include stricter punishments, including for those who throw objects onto the pitch; an identity card with a magnetic strip that should prevent the wrong people from entering the stadium; tougher measures against offensive texts on banners in the stadiums. The suggestion to no longer admit supporters of visiting clubs and to let them watch the match in their own city on large TV screens has not yet been adopted. However, the clubs are calling for stricter controls on the approximately 3,800 supporters who have been denied access to the stadiums for some time due to previous violence. According to press reports, Minister of the Interior Brancaccio has privately threatened the clubs with the bill for the weekly deployment of police at the stadiums. The police unions have long advocated giving local authorities the power to ban a match if it endangers public order. According to the police, the stabbing on Sunday before the start of the Genoa-Milan match, which was stopped after half-time, had no political background. This was the case with previous football riots in Brescia, last November. There, a group of AS Roma supporters, almost all members of far-right organisations, had used their club's away match to get into a fight with the police. This was clearly premeditated. The 18-year-old Milan boy who stabbed Claudio Spagnolo to death insists it was all a tragic accident. Simone Barbaglia has admitted that he asked his 17-year-old friend Matteo, a known knife collector, for a weapon to take to Genoa. As a precaution, he told police. His friend claims that Barbaglia said: “Give me a knife because I want to cut open a Genovese,” but according to police this was an exaggeration and that he wanted a knife out of insecurity. During questioning, Barbaglia said that he suddenly found himself alone in front of a group of Genoa fans and that’s when he pulled out the borrowed knife. “I thought that they would stop once they saw that,” he said, according to the report. “The boy who was injured threw himself at me with his fist raised to hit me.” The autopsy seems to confirm his story: Spagnolo was stabbed once, a fatal blow from the stomach upwards. Barbaglia was an inconspicuous boy. He didn’t smoke or drink and had never had any trouble with the police. He spent much of his free time in a games room full of video games. The neighbors of the small apartment where he lived with his parents, in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Milan, say he was always friendly and kind, although some former classmates remember him singing fascist songs in the toilets. In his cell, Barbaglia wrote a letter to the murdered Spagnolo. “Together we may have shared a misunderstood passion for football,” he wrote. “I didn’t want it. I didn’t want it. Now I’m here, alone with my despair and the sorrow for what I did to you. I seek the courage to endure the just punishment. Forgive me. Do it, you who can understand me.” Spagnolo's parents and sister can't bring themselves to say forgiveness. They are also skeptical about the other reactions. Desperate, his sister Romina says that all the good intentions, all the solemn promises, don't make much difference. "They can do whatever they want, raise money, hold a minute's silence in the stadium, stop the competition, but that doesn't mean anything," says Romina Spagnolo. "We know very well that after that everything will be the same, everything will go back to the way it was."
