Imagine how lost people would be if we had called it the "Edmotta" award! I think we need a refresher course on what the "OLE of the season" catagory is all about. But I'll let someone else do the honors. Who came up with that title anyway? I know it was based on LPB's "Pavon" award but forgot who exactly came up with OLE/Olé. Perhaps we should rename it (? - Is any player worthy enough of the title than Presas?)
i must admit i didnt quit know what it was about, i just thought written Messi and Olé in the same sentence i couldnt be much off..
"Olé" refers to Oleguer, the former right back who is now with Ajax (you think HE isn't looking forward to the Champions League clash against LPB?! ). Around 2007 he had a very poor season and, in the minds of many here at the time, was the one person responsible for allowing LPB to win the 2006/07 La Liga title when he failed to properly play the offside trap against Espanyol in the penultimate match of the season. Espanyol scored in the final minutes to put the score at 2-2... a win would've likely given Barca the title. Thus at the suggestion of one of the board members here (I forget who), "Ole" of the match became recognized as the player who had a horrific performance, the opposite of Man of the Match. "OLE of the season" is something players would not want to be tagged with. Last season Chygrynskiy probably put in the most "Ole" performances. Others would probably say Ibrahimovic did, especially in the second half of the season.
